well buy a cheaper case, get a cheaper p965 motherboard, you could probably skimp on the vid card a lil too. Get a better brand of ram, get at least two hard drives and run in a mirrored raid array, make sure you get a dual layer dvd burner you will want it if you are serious about vid editing.

If I were you I'd skimp some out on the case and put the money towards a better processor. Oh, and check out futureshop? I think? they have 500gb external harddrives on for $199 canadian right now.

I didnt know they made a cheaper case than $50 that would provide adeguete venting without pulling off the sides...

Yeah, I wouldn't go with a cheap case, you will kick yourself for it later. That case seems like it will be ok in the airflow department. You may want to consider cutting a whole in the window and adding an 80mm fan to it, just to get that much more air flowing in. Stagnant air can be a killer to a good rig

dont ever pull the sides off a case it disrupts air flow, cases from reputable manufacturers are designed ot provide good air flow, just make sure the case you buy is from a good manufacturer you should be able to find one without a power supply for around $30, you can always upgrade the case later to something cool, spend the money on the internals first. the little bit you can skimp here and there is not gonna provide enough to make a significant jump in processor power. a few extra seconds for encoding is not going to kill ya. your money is best spent on hard drive space and redundancy especially when doing vid editing.

Well, I have a case from an old desktop, I could use, I just figured this would work, and provide enough space/airflow for later upgrades...

Most people I know who build systems are saying for $800 this system should be a screamer...so I think I may just go with it and upgrade as needed...Ive been editing so far on a 4 year old Dell Latitude d800...
