Rastafarians on NS?

i have been seein alot of rasta icons and what not and i was just wondrin if anybody on here actually practices the religion seriously. or does it mean you just smoke tha herb?

personally i am not a rasta i am a christian but i respect all those who are.
 
it's funny because Rasta is pretty much a joke in the Caribbean now, but it's so hyped up and cool now in America and the UK.
 
im pretty sure the rastafarian ideas are pretty crazy, for instance, i think they hate like all white people. Or atleast thats how it used to be
 
i know a little about it... and its definitely a legit religion... but i dont really follow it... i might try and learn some more about it tho

But correct me if im wrong but can't you be both rastafarian and christian? Or am I ill informed.
 
Ok I looked it up and this religion seems fucked to me. They believe that both Jesus and Haile Selassie are Messiahs. Selassie is a former comunist emperror of Ethiopia who is responsible for the deaths of thousands of people. Apparently this guy died but Rastas believeing God cannot die claim it is a hoax and he will come back to liberate his people. Ganj is a big part of the religion and cleanses their soul and brings them closer to God. But it accepts the holy trinity christ and the bible and is thereforesomewhat tolerant of the Christian faith.
 
i had to do a very in depth research paper on this religion for my university...... it is a dumb religion. Their bible is retarded. they basically went through the chrisitian bible and took used hte parts that they wanted that will cater to their dumb beliefs and stand behind smoking weed.
dont get me wrong, i like weed and i like the peace that this religion brings....but it when studied and boiled down...it is dumb
 
I don't know too much about the religion. I know Selassie was like a totalitarian leader who killed a lot of people. I don't know a lot about their study of religion, like their bible, but I like the peace they bring. A lot of people I know think if you smoke weed and listen to Bob Marley you are a Rastafarian, and I always tell them how ridiculous that idea is. I don't practice it, but it is an interesting religion. Bottom line is most people who like the Rastafarian movement like the idea of smoking weed and the music. myself included.
 
oh i forgot, christians aren't homicidal maniacs anymore. well, some of them are...but that's not really an issue.
 
jah is alot easier to pray to considering he actualy existed. you can laugh at white people trying to be rasta, but christians pray to somthing that could be a completly made up story

I think it's safe to say that most, close to all, "rastas" on ns are really just self glorifying potheads. I doubt many follow the beliefs and ideas.
 
Personally I am a follower of the 12 Tribes of Judah. 12 tribes of Israel is the highest form of Christianity. I being from the tribe of Benjamin. I like this this sect, because it

does not shy away from other races. As well as, I being of the

christian faith I and I am able to connect on a more spiritual level. Rastafari is not a religion, but more a practice and a way of life. Although some sects believe that H.I.M. His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I is the reincrnation of god. I believe he was not the reincarnation of Jah in flesh. He spoke word of truth, and H.I.M. should be praised. Members of Rastafari refer more often to the Old Testament. Another misconception is about the use of Marijuana. Most Rasta's only smoke during time of cleansing and prayer. It clears the mind. Personally, I do not pollute my body with anything that can harm. ie. Cigarettes, fast food. Although I am not vegan, I usually vegetables and try to stay away from meat products or any other bi-product of an animal.

I see many people on here have different views. However, I dislike the I's degrading Rasta with little or no knowledge of the ways.

By the way Rasta's read the King James Bible. There were no passages that were removed or revised.

People can't turn into real rastafarians, because you have to be born a rasta to really be one. Same with jews..

 
to my understanding, they read THe Holy Piby, which is a poor excuse for any literature, let alone a sort of bible
 
considering they only use natural products i dont think any of them would be on a computer...
 
i dont even remember why i have a rastafarian icon, i should really change it, but it makes me feel like im killing a part of my NS legacy.

so im changing it. no more parrot.
 
im definitely not rasta but all of you talking shit on it... stop talking, who are you to shit on a religion because youre too ignorant to do anything but dismiss it as "an excuse to smoke"? i cant believe anyone thinks its less legitimate than christianity
 
It's "cool" to wear Rasta colors in my school, and im guessing everyone else's. Funny thing is, none of them know shit about the religion, just that it " symbolizes" that they smoke weed.
 
Rastafari

use the same Bible as christians (King James Version), but believe that some parts have been

rewritten by Babylon. However, no one can change the words of Jah. Rasta refer especially to the old testament, genesis, glory

of kings, psalms, and revelations.
 
seriously what is the highest form. I never got that like if your religious and you belevie and worship in like your house why are u below those that go to church?
 
This is untrue. I am religious and do not attend any type of service. I pray/worship or whatever I and I would like to call it in my own sanctuary/my own home. If I and I live a good life, an organized time of worship is unnecessary, however to be among your peers is a wonderful thing. You can discuss problems, or just spread positive vibes amongst each other. I believe I live a good life, and Jah/God will decide in the end, not the I's that go to "Church" and look down upon I.
