Some rap, yes, of course. Rappers like Del, DL Incognito and others are actually good, and yes, it is music. Others, like 50 cent and Ja Rule are MTV crap, but you need to look beyond what MTV gives you, little boy.

if you can honestly say that rap sucks, then obviously you are looking at everything the wrong way. You aren't looking at the fact that it is music, and uses a different style composed of base, beats and scratching. The fast talking and rhyming is more of a form of peotry read to a beat. It can be interesting and bands like J5 have great messages

If you think you can sit down and rip off some lyrics like that, please give me a little taste of what you've got. Otherwise, shut up, because aside from blues and rap and some high end orchestra stuff on piano, almost anyone can practice and be considered 'excellent' at some type of music.

there's no such thing as music that sucks. music is essentially art-something that invokes an emotional response- which music always does, whether one considers it good or not. unfortuantly, alot of music is commercialized now, so the meaning is often hard to find in alot of songs. Music is a refuge-it doesn't matter what genre you listen to, as long as you like it.

um, to clear the record, I don't watch MTV...all they play is rap

I consider rap anything where there is no actual playing of a musical instrument, where NO musical talent is involved...yes I do consider some pop, like brittany spears and all her 'clones' rap, it is essentially the same...here is how rap is made, someone takes music that someone else has made, be it a full song or just some instrumentals, and they then give it to one of these self-proclaimed musical 'artists' and that person puts awful lyrics to it...sometimes ones that they have written, but more often than not, one's that have been written for them.

so it isn't music unless musical talent is involved, because I have little musical talent myself...at the moment, but I can rap...I actually did a freestyle on stage with a friend of mine we switch beat boxing and rapping with one another...the crowd loved it so wtf

Ok I'm not sure what the hell this is going to helkp but I will put in my 50 cents (no pun intended) You can sit here and say rap killed music and all that shit but your making a horrible point. Mtv killed music, record companies killed music, big money corporations killed music. Not all rap or atleast the kind your hearing on mtv is bullshit. And just because its not made with string instuments doesnt mean its not music either. I think your being a little narrow minded in your approach in labeling an entire genre of music on the crap your seeing on tv. There are plenty of talented rappers who dont all talk about bitches and hoes ect. And you dont think it takes any talent to lay down beats and mix? we all have our own opinions but i think your being a little misinformed and/or you havent looked into the music enough to have a view that can be taken seriously.

I don't like rap personally... I don't hate it though I just can't relate to it. I'm not black, im not a ganster I don't shoot people, I don't drive an 'Escalde sittin' on 24's' So I don't listen to it most rap seems pointless to me especially ganster rap. But there are still a few songs form the rap 'genre' that I like because they are fun to listen to. But to say rap is stupid and killed music is your opinion and everyone is entitled to theirs and your not gonna change other peoples minds so just drop it.

mtv pretty much doesnt even play music anymore, and to say that rap sucks, is kinda ignorant, you may not like it, but to many others, it doesnt suck. personally, i like just about every type of music, except for what the radio plays and punk, but thats my opinions...

I am pretty much strictly about hardcore punk and jam/folkrock (american nightmare, minor threat to phish, the dead...) and generally I hate rap, but I have respect for some of the people out there, I went to see Talib Kwelli at Higher Ground (Winooski VT) and he has very good lyrics. Stuff like Voice and such is also decent, jazzy jamband with MCing.
