Actually yes very, when I was in the office full time i always brought in food and snacks for my co workers, always kept a drawer full of tasty treats anyone was welcome too. Always treated every co worker with the upmost respect. Work is work and I keep my personal thoughts and feelings outside of work.

now I’m remote so yes my dog is super happy to work with me. Treats all day.

my dad is a boomer. he’s never applied for a job in his life. growing up his brothers got him a job as a cady. in college he was offered a job at a bar he frequented. he worked part time and that was enough to pay for rent AND tuition without any financial assistance. he graduated with a degree in computer science in 1977 and was head hunted by multiple companies before graduating. he bought a house in colorado springs while getting his masters. once he completed that, his company sent him to europe and paid 2 living stipends. 1 for the house he owned in the us and 1 for rent in the netherlands all on top of salary. came back and imported my mom and bought another house out in the sticks. was headhunted again and then used the home equity of the first 2 homes to buy a foreclosure in 2009. now my dad’s smart and insanely frugal but the homie was handed a lot of privilege based on his birth time. boomers had it easy so you could literally just work full time in order to ‘pull yourself up by the bootstraps’

things are way different now. you can higher someone from across the global, there’s a shit ton of people everywhere, information is obtained at an insane rate, people aren’t dying, etc. things are changing at break neck speeds and we need to acknowledge that and adjust accordingly and that seems to be a struggle with boomers.

anyway, fuck fox news and cnn. 2 heads of the same dragon that profits on your divided views and fear/hatred for the other sides way of life.

work conditions are far better now than in the past, tools and equipment are far better now than in the past, computer programs can now do majority of the work that has to be done by hand in the past. Work loads are lower now than ever before because of mass automation on production lines. You can disagree all you want and you’ll continue to look absolutely stupid. Trying to claim people work harder now than in the past is fucking insane. Especially in the US. Quality or work life has gone up 10 fold compared to the past.

So instead of going to the conclusion that laying off huge swaths of employees to outsource for 1/100th of the salary could have a large effect on profits. It really isnt shocking that the people entering the workforce to a super bleak future fail to see a brighter side to it.

If you do want me to rant about my life, I can sum it up pretty well. Me and the lady both have master's degrees, work in desirable and extremely stable fields 40-60 hours a week, did everything right and tidy and make over triple our states median household income...........we are just barely able to squeak by and buy a home that isn't falling apart at the seams. I don't think it's crazy that people making less than us feel like they got fucked over and are pissed? They did everything they were told to do and got good jobs. Most worked really hard etc. yet they aren't where they were told they would be. Meanwhile we all got to watch our parents live off of one salary with a stay-at-home mom, take multiple vacations a year, and retire at a younger age with pensions and benifits and a house worth a million dollars. (obviously generalizing but paraphrasing what I see people around my age (28) and younger upset about).

The same problems are present in the western world. If you would look past the loudest ones in media(and maybe i should come over there and do a field study about gen z work morale) , you could maybe see that people are working hard and willing to work, but somehow Older generations built a system that is going to fail younger generations just like they did here.

To think that this generation is inherently different from others is unsound. People have always been people and people are, well, people. There have always been lazy people and there have always been hard workers. Gen Z vs boomers have a different definition of hard work. Do you really think boomers or the greatest generation or silent generation would want kids working in mines?

Honestly, I suggest you read up on history. It’s very illuminating. You will see that, traditionally, society goes one of two ways: increasing worker rights or decreasing them. We’ve been on a decreasing cycle for about 3 decades with periods of increases here and there. Now we are entering a cycle where people are demanding their rights. Traditionally, this comes after an epidemic (the plague, COVID, etc.) when workers are in a position to demand more rights.

In sum: people are people and will always be people. It’s unfair to apply a broad paint brush and say an entire generation is lazier. That’s just lazy, in itself, to say.

I think maybe like the largest discount here is like technically in a vague sense he is correct, work isn’t nearly as “hard” anymore because yeah most awful jobs are awful and they risk people’s lives. I get paid far more than both my sisters, who both have full university degrees only because my work has a high chance of me dying. So yeah the risk has decreased which is a fucking good thing, people should not be dying at work! But overall, communication and connection all over the internet has made it easier for people to discuss and rant. And most are younger generations creating the perception that young people only bitch and complain. When if fact I’m sure all generations do we’re just the first to have everything logged on servers and been shown for all of the rest of time.

Just my third day using. Running through the classroom curriculum they provide. So far the training is pretty good, much better than the materials provided by GoEngineer for solidworks training.

Aside from that, as a CAD soft it feels pretty good. To me the various functions are more clear than solidworks. My main concern is that it's entirely cloud based

I fucking hate it here. Buncha middle aged women talking the whole day, pretending to work, or actively making it harder for me to work. Like right now..... someone brought a child in today for some damn reason, and there are 8 women in the middle of the office yelling, singing songs, entertaining a kid. Its so freaking hard to concentrate on memorizing treatment protocols or type out code when fucking baby shark is being sang next door.

I just want to be back in my home office/dungeon in peace, where I get done with my tasks by 2-3 and can live my live without people breathing down my neck.

Yeah Yeah Yeah noise canceling headphones and all that.....I already have em. I just want to rant and go back home lmao

I just want to be back in my home office/dungeon in peace, where I get done with my tasks by 2-3 and can live my live without people breathing down my neck.

I am in an office that is tied to the education portion of who I work for, even though I don't work for the education portion..... So, for 3 months of the year, a majority of these people don't really have much or anything to do. Yet they are technically forced to come into the office for some reason?

In May their entire purpose becomes to annoy the fuck out of the other people in the office who have year-round jobs. I am dreading that day. Its already bad with the school year winding down.
