Most schools have some ways around the application charge if they really want you to apply. Lots of schools have an alumni waiver where any grad can just get a waiver for an applicant, there are hardship waivers, and waivers that some recruiters/ admissions officers that work for the college can give out at their discretion. Ask before you pay to apply and make sure they know that an application fee waiver is something you are interested in

coaches are paid with football revenue and booster donations, totally separate from academic budget

and at 90% of schools the football program subsidizes the entire rest of the athletic department. big money in college ball

it was a joke. I know they are separate budgets.

But where'd you get that 90% number from? From what I remember its something like half of schools don't even break even. Id 100% believe that the big football schools like any of the SEC, ND, Michigan, Ohio state etc etc etc....... have tens of millions left over to fund other programs. But for every one of those there are 10 small schools with football programs that are fighting to break even or lose money. There's big money in college ball for the big names, the rest are left with crumbs.

sorry i struggle with internet sarcasm. 90% number came from my ass. it's newschoolers so i'm not exactly pulling up tableau for this shit

and yeah most athletic depts run at a loss but that's rarely due to football. FCS schools are a whole different discussion as even football is a non rev sport at most of those

I work with someone in the broadcast industry for D1 sports teams and he told me something like all programs get allotted an equal budget for Mens and womens sports equivolently ? So like men's football budget is equivolent to like 13 women's budgets combined? Idk exactly what he said but it seemed whack and I have no idea if that is just something he said while intoxicated.

Either way, only a handful of FBS schools actually make money off football tickets and sales. Let alone make enough money to cover the rest of athletics. But the big ones make biiiiiig money. I just think it's pretty fucked how nearly every public school requires tax money and student fees to run athletic departments that hemorrhage money.

I mean I love college football, but I feel those funds could be better used educating, which is the entire point of college, rather than building a new gym or hiring new coaches. Lame ass opinion but whatever

funniest number I saw was Kansas spent over 10 million per win lmaooo.

nah i’m just not applying to as many colleges now cause my parents are making me pay for my own college apps. Amazes me that they make 300k a year and want me to pay for my college apps and most of my college. You’d think they don’t want me to be in debt but they’re only concerned about having money for my sisters soccer and a second or third home to retire too

That's not correct.

The only dollar for dollar match that is mandated by title IX is in equality of financial assistance. Aka if you're giving 2.5 million in scholarships to men in athletics, you must also give 2.5 to women in athletics.

But he was kind of on the right track. The money allotted to say a football team is equivalent to a lot more in women's sports, just due to the sheer amount of scholarships given and the fact that there are so many people on a football team.

This is a requirement for all universities that receive federal funding.
 
My boyfriend’s best friend told my friends basically that he was going to propose around Christmas time. They didn’t tell me this at the time. They just said to look nice and get my nails done - per the best friend. So I kind of had my suspicions. But I have since found out the best friend did tell them that he was going to propose around Christmas.

Christmas comes and goes without a proposal. I talked to my friends who are just shocked. So I told my boyfriend today about what his friend told mine. He said he has never said that to his best friend. And “if “ that were to ever happen it wouldn’t be any time soon. Mind you… he’s been talking about what kind of wedding he would want and talking about how long my last name would be if I hyphenated it. He also got me a super sweet soulmate necklace for Christmas. So yeah, nothing suggesting he was so against getting married/engaged. So his very harsh response is really upsetting.

Now I’m upset with his friend for putting that idea into my head when clearly my boyfriend wasn’t planning that at all. And also feel super rejected by my boyfriend for not even having considered it. We’ve been together 2.5 years and aren’t getting any younger.

Idk why he would even tell my friends that? Like why make that up? I am so confused and hurt. I got my hopes up. It wasn’t my boyfriends fault necessarily but his reaction did not help in the slightest.

Yeah. He was with his ex for 12 years and says he was gonna propose. To be fair they were in high school when they started dating. So a high school to college to adulthood relationship should be longer but I’m not waiting 12 years. We’re adults with established careers and we want kids. So yeah, not getting any younger for that stuff. I don’t want to “waste” my time if it’s not going to go anywhere. That said I love him a lot so if it takes a little bit longer obviously I’m not gonna end things but we really need to get on the same page because I’m not gonna let him string me along.

Maybe he loves you but is paralyzed with indecision about how to buy a ring, how to set it up, what to say etc. It can be hard if a man doesn’t have a friend sibling etc to feel confident in these decisions even if he would.

True. It’s just disappointing because for the last 2 months my expectations have been so much higher based on what his best friend was saying. Like from what my friends told me, this friend said my bf had a plan and he was going to do it. But from talking to my bf that was NEVER the case. So for the last 2 months I thought we were much farther along in our relationship than we really are. Were are not on the same page anymore and now have to figure out how to get back on the same page, if we even can. All because his friend let me to think something was coming.

I can’t even be mad at my boyfriend. This is all on his friend and me for buying into it and getting my hopes up. I just don’t know how to dial back my expectations because for the last 2 months I’ve been thinking about getting engaged, moving in, etc. and we’re not even there yet. I have to take a step back to get to where he is or he has to take a step forward and thats not easy. This was all totally avoidable if his friend didn’t tell my friends a proposal was coming at Christmas.

Does he only want to move in when you’re engaged? What if you were to sit down and talk about expectations, in a non pressuring way, to see where you guys are, what you both want. Like, when do you expect to be engaged? What does the the next two years look like?

I feel like it is entirely possible that he was planning to propose, but possibly couldn't find the right moment or something changed his plan where he couldn't do it anymore. Wanting it to still be a surprise and probably pissed at his buddy for telling you he is saying that he never told him that.

Idk Just a possibility.

i love how theres one person in my works group chat that is still fuming about some Slow Skiing signs being moved without his knowledge and that they're "my signs".......Could it be that they got deployed on the hill?
