Rant About Whatever

I hate writing new resumes and cover letters. Especially generic cover letters that don't yet have a target audience.

"Let me brag about myself without sounding like an asshole"

confidence in your abilities =/= asshole.

The whole point is to introduce yourself and explain why you're a valuable candidate. Don't think of it as malicious bragging haha. Be proud of your skills and what you could potentially bring to the table!

Ugh.

My friends girlfriend. I'm a people person and can get along with almost anyone but holy shit. The people that talk in a way trying to impress people, full of shit, and not very interesting. Also can be a bit of a bitch because I think she's trying on the "I'm cool and I just don't care" persona as if this was junior high or something.

The fact that she's 19 has a lot to do with it, but I don't have problems with anyone. There are plenty of people that age at shows. Also used to coach a bit and have worked with kids in the park. But Jesus fuck.

She got a pitbull as a "I want to be a badass and get a pitbull" then never walked it. Maybe twice. Luckily they got rid of it finally because that was fucked to just leave it in a cage all day and night and never walk it. Sure it could roam around the room when they were home or sometimes all day, but 1 room isn't that big.

Now shes on some fucking snake quest. Won't stop talking about snakes, keeps buying snakes. Even I have a much better sense of "People aren't interested in what I'm talking about change subject/shut up" and that's one my derping brain since birth issues.

Idk though. If you're nice all the time whatever. I mean everybody has problems. I'm not a picky person but jesus. If you're going to be a dick sometimes then fuck.

Problem obviously being the GF situation. One of my best friends from the last 7 years so keeping things drama free but damn. I just don't see any gain in calling her out. If she really crosses some lines fuck it, it's on, but on the bullshit, I'll just let it slide.

Literally don't even know what to do right now. I've gotten fucked over by too many smaller places that took advantage of how nice I was.

Really don't want anything that isn't a legit job. Also have the experience to back that up. 12 seasons done in my job. 15 at ski areas. All with pretty amazing references except for maybe one that we didn't see eye to eye on things. I fucking hate job politics though.

All I want to do, all I've ever wanted to do is make some good parks for the kids. I never had a terrain park growing up. I guess that's been a big part of my obsession with this career. Every hill has some limitations, but at the end of the day, A lot of places aren't doing the best they can, and to me that's not acceptable. I was hoping to ditch out on the smaller places and go back to the big stuff but after the Euro and Ca jobs falling through, I'm kind of lost.

I wish there was some small hill where I could just build and build and make things sick for the peoples. I don't care what I get paid, I don't care what our limitations are. All I want is a place that cares enough to try, and let me do my job. My 2 jobs for this year were bigger gigs with smaller roles and don't play into this. But some of the places I've worked and places people have told me about. Fuck.

I grew up in a town with no skatepark, the only places that were skateable the cops would be called. I built a mini ramp in my driveway and garage so I could skate. The local hill had no terrain park and it wasn't until I was 16/17 that I rode a park regularly.

The local kids at a lot of these places have no other spot to go. They go to the place that's close, the place their parents can afford a pass and drop them off. It's just a bummer that so many of these smaller places put so little efforts into their parks.

I really fucking hope one day that I find a good gig somewhere at a company big or small, where I'm not butting heads, and I can make some sort of impact. I've had some success in the past as well as some giant waste of times. I've had several very talented friends leave this industry after getting too frustrated with things. I'm always scared that this may be my last season. I never want to lose that passion that I have for this. When I work 23 hours straight to finish a setup and see kids having fun hitting those features after. The money is irrelevant. That's all that I need. But sometimes this industry like any other can be a fickle bitch.

Maybe, fucking maybe I can land somewhere good, that I mesh with, that I can do good work with, and just have things work out. For once. That's all I fucking want. Idk why that's too much to ask, but the universe doesn't seem to be on the same page as me right now.

It's good to see everyone getting snow this year. Have a good season folks. Sorry for the bitching. Just sad right now honestly.

You're the man. Wish we had you around here..

Thanks man. I'm back to round 3 of job applications. Hopefully 3rd time is a charm, I land another good job, and actually get to work there. Everyone has a park these days but it's still tough to find a good fit sometimes.

We shall see.

I'm a hell of a lot more positive about it than I was a few days ago.

I get a kick out of rich baby boomer trustfund yuppies calling younger generations entitled.

Maybe if your shithead kids paid their student loans, we wouldnt have stuff to bitch about.

I agree there are lots of kids that demand lots and do nothing for it but hey, guess what? Its your mouthbreather jizz that made these kids

I flew delta on Saturday from New York to slc and they got my ski bag here fine. But they sent my other checked bag to atlanta... and it got delivered to my porch at 2:30 last night. I'm just glad no one stole it off my porch in the middle of the night. Delta is a shit show for baggage

Powder Mag makes me laugh. "Heres a lowkey awesome small gem of a ski area nestled away from the crowds and has fresh turns all day", "Lets post an article about it on social media so thousands of knobs can know about it."

We are starting to run out of best kept secrets in skiing, Utah has none of them left either. Cant we just all shut the fuck up about things?

Big Sky does this shit. Boasts about no lift lines and such but promotes themselves like hell and soon they wont be able to use the lack of lift lines as a promotional gig anymore. At least we don't have a major city or airport near us so we'll never see the crowds that colorado or utah gets. but still, the growth in the 6 years i've been here is fucking insane.

I fucking hate flying. Supposed to get into SF at 10:35, but with this weather its getting pushed back an hour. So that'll mean I'm getting in at 2:35AM EST.

So is Big Sky not supposed to promote themselves? They need business lol. I don't care if the mountain does it, I am just not a fan when some 'local' goes out and finds a spot and tells all of their friends. Still some hidden gems, but I have been seeing way too many people in places where I should not be seeing them.

I don't mind them promoting themselves, just sick of seeing the tagline "no lift lines" because 1. its not true, 2. its getting worse, 3. there are plenty of other methods of self promotion.

I know I got blood on the wrapper, as far as the pizza... I guess it would've blended into the red sauce if it happened.

Either way I still got pizza and that's what matters, I was pretty hungry!

don't beat yourself up, I still have my finger wrapped up from trying to fix the tailgate latch on my car with a sharp pocket/fishing knife and got myself really good. positive I need/needed stitches because its been 3 weeks and its still sore as fuck and gross and yellow and shit.

also I want to give a huge shout out to our maintenance department at work. went to go put in some work orders today about issues that we already put work orders in about earlier in the season (that were closed because they didn't want to deal with them) and still nothing has gotten done.

Theres a giant gash in the hallway of one of our buildings that I put a work order in back in November, I come to find out that there is still an open work order for it dating to nearly a year ago (January 12th, 2016) which maintenance swore they would fix then and in the spring.

last week I sent one of our guys up to a condo to help a guest change the air filter that the guest told us about. The guest actually took it out himself to show maintenance. Instead of taking it back to the shop and finding a similar one as a replacement, the fucking maintenance guy just was all like "oh well, we're gonna have to get to it in the morning" because he was getting off of work in 30 mins.

holy shit and people think kids are lazy now, these are grown-ass men we're talking about. its a team of 5 dudes where only 2 of them really do hard work and get shit done.

If it makes you feel better, I cut my knee open with my own ski a couple seasons ago after I got tripped up by Snow Snakes aka a willow bush branch. I had to get stitches and I couldn't watch them do the stitches, but I could look intently at the cut, it was overall very embarrassing. Most of my falls are pretty embarrassing, honestly, I'm so clumsy, I dunno how I've lasted this long but it's all been worth it!

On a serious note, please get that cut checked out if it's still looking like that soon. It sounds like it's headed towards an infection especially if it's yellow looking or red around the edges. Get some really good antimicrobial wash if you can and try to keep it as clean as possible.

cant complain too much you know? its been incredible this year but March through may houses some of the best skiing all year long. I skied insane amounts of pow in april while the rest of the state transitions back into biking/golfing/camping/climbing mode. I remember one day where I took like 5 runs just skiing pow on groomers at snowbird because no one was there, and then proceeded to get down n dirty on all the good shit till 4pm with the place being a ghost town. Shit like that makes it worth it.

But yeah, I sometimes choose to ski deer valley over snowbird on some days due to the hecticness and crowds. Its Outdoor Retailer week in SLC and I just know the cottonwoods are going to get raped by industry dudebros with free vouchers.

I've been trying to find pants for the last month and I cannot find anything with a 36 plus inseam and a 38 waist. if any of you wanna help out I'm looking for a soft-shell pant for everyday use and climbing. something like the arcteryx gamma lt pant is what I'm looking for

Baby on board sticker whiled driving slow as fuck in the left lane and not knowing what a turn signal is.

Fuck you and your stupid baby. I hate those stickers anyway though.

The fucking hotel room I booked for Dr King's birthday weekend doesn't have a TV. I can't take 3 nights of that. And its near my friends concert specifically so I can watch the Patriots Sat and then catch most of the show when the games out of reach. WTF.

I would just book a flight to Tahoe or Colorado and hit up real skiing but I just have to spend the money on bills and my business in the next week.

There better be fresh snow out West in February when I have plenty of spare cash. Think I gotta be in Omaha Feb 4 and Feb 19 so inbewteen CO, UT or Jackson better have some fresh deep shit.

Nah that room was so I could sort of not be tied to the girl I stay/hook up with a little and have TV for watching some sports and Im longtime friends with the band but when I was blacked out I told her about the concert. Shes still technically married anyways and I like seeing my friends bands solo or with homies you always meet someone fun when you are friends with the band. Its gonna be a ripping show too.

I might go tomorrow regardless its going to be warm and soft I wanna destroy the trees. Weekend looks like good piste conditions to rip the carving fast skis but tomorrow is a 50 degree play in the trees and fuck up old skis day. Last day to do it not much snow in the forcast and the base is pretty damn good right now.

I like this holiday too MLK day means a lot to me its about standing up for yourself and telling anyone who fucks with you to get lost I always go skiing in honor of Dr King this weekend.

Southeast Michigan is the shittiest place to live if you like skiing. No doubt

what city/county? I grew up in lake orion in Oakland county and skied Pine Knob my whole childhood till my parents said "fuck it" and moved us to SLC.

as much as I love living out west, id much rather grow up back in the Midwest vs. here. you really do appreciate the mountains more and more each year. Currently in the most amount of snowfall cycles ive seen in 8-9 years of being out here.

the one thing I miss about pine knob/mt. holly were how late they stayed open. We'd ski till 11pm nearly every night every day of the week and go into school the next day beat as fuck but happier than clams. My parents and their friends would close the fucking bar down every weekend night lol at like midnight when they turn the lights all off. Good times.

Get out west if you can, but never forget your roots.

I ride at mt holly usually twice a week and pine knob a few times a season when I can, I'd love to go everyday but considering I live in the royal oak/Berkley area Its about an hour drive and just not something I can do everyday with school. Dont get me wrong I love holly and the people there it's where I first started skiing. It's just this bipolar Michigan weather which has the hill closing and reopening every few weeks and making the season so short. Honestly would kill to get out west or somewhere with consistent snowfall and you can confidently say the hill will be open through January and February at least.

I feel you on the weather cycle, man. snow, warmth, rain, rinse and repeat. you ever make any trips up north? id honestly would be super interested in a mt bohemia trip. id imagine it would be a wicked fun place to hit when they get those freak artic cold masses from Canada and tons of lake effect snow. spent tons of time in the UP snowmobiling so they could definitely house some rocking skiing.

My transfer school has really been giving me the run around. They left it up until literally (not figuratively) the very last possible time to handle any situations that may arise. It was all fine and dandy all summer, into the fall, kept checking up on it, handled my side like an adult. Now it comes out that the first 4 people I spoke to were winging it instead of speaking to someone who knew what they were talking about. Thanks guys... Like I didn't have enough to handle and sort without this happening last minute.

I'm so tempted to just take the semester off and come back to there, they already messed up and thought I was coming in the fall apparently, every time I spoke to them. Might as well just send it and come back in the fall, I'm over holding the hands of grown adults twice my age as they hopelessly fumble through feeding me misinformation. Not even saying anything bad here, just that I wish someone would've double checked, I know they're busy but I couldn't get any better information and they contradicted what their website said anyways. I appreciate and respect someone a thousand times over if they can admit "hey, I'm not sure on that, let me send you to the person who would know the answer" instead of someone who makes it up on the fly so I have to deal with the aftermath.

Gotta love when your friends don't respond, then do briefly and then stop entirely. It's even better when they complain about others communicating skills.
