Some redneck said "I don't know, but it sounds like he has trouble keeping a job," regarding my being hired at a mountain.

LOL. Because I should stay in the same region my whole life because of traveling. The only place I've ever worked in my life, that I wouldn't be welcomed back would be mt jore. And the feelings mutual because that place is dildos.

Even then it's not even like I didn't put in some time places. I worked 2 years at Oak, and would have 3 but there was just no work for me to do so I had to leave. I built them more stuff than they needed, and it will take years for kids to get to the level they need more. Also worked there for 3 years earlier teaching lessons. Left on great terms, could go back any time.

Gore only worked at for 2, but there park was going nowhere, and I was getting shut down trying to make it not suck so I left.

Cranmore, the whole crew left, Jiminy bought it and made it ultra family friendly(which is fine) That said left on great terms with positive references.

West I put in 3 years despite working with some questionable people and dealing with some BS. The mountain literally went bankrupt and the park pretty much got axed, but I totally should have stayed in the area just to "keep my job".

NZ is southern Hemisphere so that doesn't count because that wasn't even the same winter. Would have gone back but couldn't get a work visa.

And then BC, wouldn't have gone back but could have. Also BC is a Vail Resort. And had a job at Vail for this season that I turned down. It wasn't that I didn't keep my job, just that I had to make a choice and chose to come back to the ice coast.

Idk, just had to rant. I don't want to correct the guy so I figured I'd bitch here lol. Not really mad I just hate when people say stupid shit about things they know nothing about. Dude probably doesn't even ski or board, and if he does, it's doubtful he rides park or knows anything about it.

If I had had gotten the opportunity to do what I wanted at some of these mountains I would have stayed with them for years. But what's the point of working somewhere just to work there if you're at a wall. If I'm not allowed to make things nice, and have a positive impact on a place, why sit around and put my name on mediocre setups.

Then sometimes when you move, you don't pick the right job. That's how I felt with Cranmore and BC. That said, regardless of me liking it, I still worked extremely hard, and left on good terms. I've never quit a job in the middle of the season. I just was always looking for the right opportunity and not quite finding it.

That said on the plus. I finally get my shot to make the place awesome. My health is still fucked(nobody can tell me what's wrong and no health insurance) but hoping I can get that sorted. But I'm going to pimp this place out.

My level of motivation for this right now is pretty damn high. If I wasn't obsessed with this job anyway, I just want all these kids that are stuck in the region to finally have a legit park to lap and progress.

/MEGAAAAA RANT

PS: I feel much better :)

Also as far as jobs. Generally jobs call your references for related positions before they hire you.

If you "can't keep a job" that will show up when they call your references.

I'm done. I just thought of that and realized it needed to be added to my original rant to complete my outlet of pain and anguish brought forth from the mean peoples of the intrawebz.

I need a nap clearly lol

I thought I had a really great idea. Was going to photoshop the last supper and make it a meme that said "I know what you did last supper"

Thought I was onto something. Apparently super late to the party. That said one of the versions I thought of was having the whole cast replacing Jebus and friends. I haven't seen that yet.

When you think you're brilliant but really just the 5 millionth person to think of something.

Don't get me wrong the whole nuh nuh nuh JJOOOHHHNN CCEEENNAA thing is awesome and funny but the group of 10-12 kids who so it literally the whole 25 minutes lunch period everyday are so annoying. Its all the kids who think they're "trolls" and post racist shit of the one black friend in the group on Snapchat.

Its really frustrating when your shift leader at work 1. Thinks she knows more than you about a job youve been doing for almost a year now and 2. Is over 5 years younger than you and hasnt graduated high school yet. Its honestly so frustrating, not because im some ageist elitist, but mainly because she doesnt recognize that i know just as much about my job as she does. But i guess when you were handed a leadership position at the age of 16 you would be kind of full of yourself.

It's all good. I just hate when somebody says something stupid and I can't correct them(even if I'm more wrong lolt, hence my intrewebz posting)

I think it was more the fact that people feel that way than anything to do with me. Why work forever at a place you don't like or skip out on traveling to new places to put in time and be loyal.

I mean, there are some cool gigs out there that are special and I can see kicking around for that, but if something isn't going anywhere, you aren't respected, or you simply was to go somewhere new, you don't owe anyone anything.

Especially in seasonal work. My season in NH I got broke hard, and had a few surgeries, couldn't work in the park. Took a job checking tickets. Hated it, but finished out the season strong. If anyone asked my bosses they probably would have though it was my favorite job in the world. did my job, kept a smile on, and when the season ended I made my move.

I was worried about seasonal work being a problem when I was younger. Now I'm honestly stoked about it. Almost trying to keep from ending up at a year round gig at a mountain.

My dog has started to chase deer, and for the past three days I've had to shoo deer before we go out/chase my wicked fast dog because she's not listening to me at all.

Yeah I feel you..

I did seasonal work at resorts for 7 years. It's a lifestyle that actually works in this industry, and other insiders understand the seasonal gig. I've had a lot of people undermined me and said the seasonal work showed instability to keep a job.. but that's because they don't understand the nature of seasonal work. As long as you got the good references it's all good. The freedom of being able to move and experience all the different resorts is awesome. I worked for Intrawest (being the parent company) and did seasonal gigs at many of their resorts. Never had a year round gig with one, but the nice thing was my seniority (comp ticket amount/pay/benefit eligibility) transferred with me every time I moved. Hopefully your mountains do the same if you're working under the same ownership roof. Best choice I ever made with my life. In a totally different profession now and I still have the days I wake up and say.. why don't I just quit this and go back to working in the parks or driving cats. You don't owe anyone anything is very true... you can't let them manipulate you or put up with too much crap. Now I'm rambling

Yeah. Moved to several different companies, but there are so many independent spots. Last year was my first year with Vail Resorts. If I took the grooming job at vail this season it would have been my second year with VR and if I wanted to move to tahoe I would still be able to work for VR etc. That def appealed to me. Honestly it's still something I'd like to do. The idea of being able to move within a company like that is awesome. I've never worked for intrawest but I get why it worked for you.

Unfortunately I sort of fucked my self a bit. By moving around I kept starting over. I didn't move that high up the chain anywhere. That said, IMO some of the places I was at, things just weren't a good fit. Unfortunately trying to find a good place to work can be as hard as finding good workers.

I haven't really moved up into any crazy positions but I feel I've got a decent enough resume/skill set that I'm fairly comfortable with at least getting a decent job somewhere. So I'm happy that worked out, but if I had stuck with one place, I probably could have moved up the chain, and been in a solid spot at one of those mountains year ago, and made things happen.

That's legit that things worked out for you, you move on but still are happy with your days on the mountain. A lot of my friends got burnt out/tired of being fucked over and want nothing to do with it anymore. I would hate to have those kinds of negative feelings toward it.

I hope I can do it forever, but if not, I hope I leave while I still love it. I'd rather leave it like you missing it sometimes, than leave with a bad taste in my mouth.

My mom is straight up and down crazy.

So I'm 20 years old, living at home, commuting to college because I got fucked over financially recently. If I could afford to live on my own with the money Im making off two part time jobs I would. But I can't so I'm stuck at home for a couple more months.

I leave today to go to class and tell my mom I'm going to work after, I go to class and I get to work and they say I'm not needed so I go to my boyfriends house. My phone has been dead all day and I guess my mom had the need to make sure I was at work so she tried to find my iPhone, phone was dead, so she called the place I work and asked if I was there, I wasn't. So she decided that it was necessary to drive to my boyfriends house and see if I was there, which I was, and scream at me for lying about going to work and how I know I'm only supposed to go to work and school on weekdays. Then she makes me leave and follows my car home to make sure I'm not going anywhere else.

I get her being mad about me going to his house on a week day, she gave me that rule to make sure I do well in school, however, I just think she's starting to go way overboard with the measures she's taking to find out where I am and it's pissing me the fuck off.

they tell you to start building your resume/careers up as you are in college but my fuck, do they make it hard to do so. not the schoolwork, but rather trying to find someone to give you a shot. been trying to get an internship at deer valley for nearly a year now and I now finally have a phone interview tomorrow which is cool, but I applied to like 8 places last fall only to strike out and go back to my dirtbag skier roots and bumped chairs all year.

just give me a shot yo, I promise ill blow the damn lid off them shits.

what the fuck is it with people who repost those stupid facebook statuses declaring that all their photos and stuff are "theirs" and you can't use them without their permission? i would post a status telling people how naive they are, but i have some extended family members who copy/pasted the status and i don't want to come across like that.

but really, what do you think is more legally binding? the contract you agreed to when you joined facebook or your little declaration of rights on your wall?

But seriously I agree.

Fuck my roommates. They threw out the box I was going to use to ship skis while I was out of town and those fuckers are apparently expensive. Seriously 35 bucks for a damn box?! What the hell? So yeah. I'm fucking pissed.

yeahh! I called up all the shops in my area and they said they threw them out already. One shop is getting a shipment later in the week so I'm gonna check back. Hopefully that works out. I feel like an ass cause I told the guy I'd ship them out today but evidently that didn't go as planned. Maybe I'll just throw in a crap ton of stickers haha.

Smart move. If you have an SSC at your school see if they can send an email out to everyone seeing if anyone else has a box too.

People who drive without headlights in shit weather. You= a special kind of stupid. Also props for cops going after those people instead of just sitting there jerking off waiting for somebody to set off their radar.

Also people who set speed limits ridiculously slow "because people will speed". If you set the speed limit reasonably, people generally follow it, at least much better. Obviously there will always be people driving fast, but set the fucking speed limit properly and enforce it.

Spots on interstates where it isn't crowded but they have a work zone speed for 45. 45. 45 fucking miles per hour. 3 lane road, straight, no major traffic, no curves in that section, 45?!?!?!?

And that's a speed LIMIT. Not a suggested speed, not a go slightly above this speed. So technically if you were driving correctly you would be doing 40-45. IF people did 40-45, that would cause a fucking shit show. Accidents, traffic jam(it would build up) etc.

The only reason it's 45, is because it's a work zone, so obviously the speed has to be lower(great logic) and apparently 65 isn't cool.

A lot of the places I've driven where the speed limit is 75, most people drive within 5 of the speed limit. Many of those, right on, even just under. When the speed limit is 55 on a straight interstate, people are going to speed because it's a stupid fucking speed limit.

It's such backwards logic. Make the law retarded, because people will break the law, and then they'll be at the speed you want them, instead of make the law reasonable, and enforce it and people will obey the law.

Then again, they wouldn't be able to pull people over that are driving safely for going x amount over a stupid speed limit, towns wouldn't be able to set up by their 30 zone with 4+ cops waiting, cops wouldn't be able to sleep waiting for the radar, and all of them would lose the revenue. And everythings about money these days.

Protect and serve'd

Kinda bummed. I went home today cause college has been kind of shitty. I was hoping to hang out with my dad a little bit. Just like watch football or something but he was working. I mean, I get it. His job is time consuming and he's in charge of the whole thing so I don't blame him. I've grown up with it my whole life so it's nothing new. It just sucks. I miss my dad and I wish making time for me wasn't such a struggle.

It's just one of those nights i guess..

Ever since graduation life has sucked. Broke up with my girlfriend, had a massive falling out with my father, got in a huge fight my ex, grandmother passed away, and now my dog is going to be put down.

Come on for fucks sake.

Well at least you still have the option to drive home and see your Dad, my Dad is a good 42 hour drive away and I haven't seen him for a year and a half. Also don't forget he's out there workin all those hours to provide a better life for you.

In my 2+ years living across the country I've come to realize that it sucks alot not being able to see my Dad or the rest of my family but it had to happen at some point because you gotta grow up eventually.

I guess if it was that long I might miss my parents but I'm not sure. I've never gone that long without seeing them. I did a little over 4 months, then lived with them a few weeks, then didn't see them for another 5 months or so.

I didn't really miss them that much though. We have a weird relationship anyway these days.

That said going to be living an hour and a half drive away for a few years in the winter at least, so I'll probably see them every few weeks or so.

I do feel bad that I don't see my sister very often though. And she's got 2 boys and another kid on the way. I definitely don't want to be a total stranger where they only hear about me from time to time, but it's tough to actually get there to visit.

You hit that point I think a few years after high school where you want to see people but never make it happen. There's just too much going on, and your lives are going in separate directions.

I've been trying to see one of my friends from HS down near NYC all summer since I've been back in the northeast. Haven't made it happen yet.

I hate shit like that.

We need teleporters or something.

I know it could be worse but it still sucks. I've driven an hour home almost every weekend with plans to see my dad and he forgets or gets too busy. It just sucks. I'm literally an hour from home and make the effort to drive there to see everyone but my dad can't take an hour out of his weekend to say hi. I know he's got a lot to do and i'm not blaming him, it's just shitty when you constantly get the short end of the stick.

And yeah, I do plan to move when I get out of college which makes it even shittier. Like I wanna spend time with him while I can... It's a stupid thing to get upset about but it's just frustrating. Oh well though.

My HP printer refuses to print a black and white photo in black and white... Tried all settings, used my last photo paper, only green prints.. Cant take out the colored cartridge than it wont do anything... If I click on print in grey tones and not in colors why the fuck does it still print in color? Even if there is NO color in the image.. Fuck you HP

Both me and my roommate have the same 8am class. I always get up at 6:45ish so I have enough time to get ready and go eat breakfast. Apparently he didn't wake up (has missed the past 6 lectures) and ended up missing the class and then when I got back he said "well why didn't you wake me up?"

Because I'm not your fucking mother, that's why!

I am here to ensure my success not his. If he doesn't want to put in the work then he can fail, I really can't say I give a damn one way or another.

I enjoy history classes and think it applies to a lot of things/gives you an understanding of how the world was shaped including geosciences, but other than that I don't need to know the slope of a line if I'm trying to run a resort/business. I know its cuz I sucked on my placement tests but fucking hell, the way colleges nickle and dime you is just infuriating. We would all easily be done with our degrees in a year or two if we don't do these useless classes.

I guess that's true. I'm a Finance major so some of this ancient history stuff will never apply. More recent history is a different story.

That sucks but maybe it'll help if you ever decided to study more in stat analysis for economics/marketing/finance. Schools nowadays are all about being well-rounded. Whether or not that's for the benefit of the student or the benefit of their account is beyond me.

What kind of school are you at? How far into your college career are you?

I attended a business-specific university which allowed me to weed out all of my gen-ed classes, for the most part, within the first two years. By my junior/senior years I was taking one per semester. In addition, our core curriculum was designed around required business classes like law/ethics, biz-app stats, intro to fin & accounting, investments, supply-chain & process mapping, marketing, management, etc. outside of your major.

I go to the University at Buffalo and I just started my Sophomore year. We're an AASBC accredited school or whatever it's called so a certain amount of our credits are to be non business related. Otherwise we'd be exempt from it.

Ah, makes sense. You'll get thru the bullshit eventually. I was a Corporate Finance & Accounting major, basically a hybrid dual major, though I took as few accounting classes as were required. I always felt that you cannot fully understand one discipline without also understanding the other.

one of the perks of living 2 miles from my office is that I can sleep until 8 everyday and still be at work by 8:30. My roommate, however, it not a healthy kid. We played sports together in high school and he was very fit and a great athlete. We went to different colleges and he let himself go. He exercises maybe 5 times a month now. Every morning, he is up between 6:30 & 7:00 HACKING HIS FUCKING LUNGS OUT in the shower. Every morning. It has woken me up each morning, really screwing with my sleep. I am reluctant to say something because I imagine it doesn't feel very good to be coughing like that, but it's driving me nuts.
