Rant About Whatever

Fuck prom. Maybe it's just me not being a partier in the slightest and that I can't stand to be around the majority of the people in my school. I don't get the tradition behind it, I think high school dances in general are stupid, and I sure as hell am not dropping hundreds on that. Prom is the most expensive way to surround yourself with a bunch of sweaty people dressed up in wastefully expensive clothes, then get wasted and have sex. I know some people with the mindset that they can only drink and smoke on special occasions. I've heard some terrible stories including one of a guy pressuring a girl into sex against her will, when she refused the guy made her drink until she gave in.

I don't know why people put themselves through prom when they could just go to a house party and do the same thing without wasting their money. It's a pointless ritual in my opinion.

You're not alone dude. Prom fucking sucks. Every highschooler thinks it's the highlight of high school when in reality you look back at it and think how much it epitomised the worst parts of high school. Rape culture, peer pressure and social clicks. And off course every guy thinking they look good in their shit suit and girls wearing dumb dresses.

are you for real? how does a school formal with your friends and dates perpetuate rape culture, peer pressure, or social clicks?

Not.

Well, everyone gets drunk before formal, so you have pres. It's all about who's pres you're going to and social exclusion. Like omg i'm going to the popular peoples pres. I'm so cool. I'm not going to be friends with any of these cunts after school but omg. Peer pressure with drinking and drugs and if you don't drink you're suddenly a pussy. And as John explained above a woman said no to sex so the man got her drunk enough so she'd have sex with him. Men think they're deserving of sex if they take a woman to prom/formal. It's stupid.

I'm not going to get into a multipage argument about rape culture, and prom /formal. Because it's beating a dead horse.

Man I'm curious where you guys go to high school. When I was in highschool that was the furthest thing from our prom.

I went to a relatively high end public school. It was a year/grade 11/12 campus, so everyone there was always trying to social climb and be the "most popular". The majority of attendants had 0% originality and basically just followed whatever made them popular. And for our formal/prom the students where in charge of the seating plan so you had to choose who you were sitting with. It was dumb. And drugs were pretty prevalent in the school since everyone was pretty well off and we had a kid fucked on coke just try to fight everyone. Heaps of girls said their dates where way to pushy with sex. Basically the worst thing ever.

Or, just don't go to school in Manly, Australia.

I'm with you on this. Prom is mad expensive, with a limo, tux, tickets, other things added it's like 400$ (Give or take). Even if I had some girl to go with, the combined amount of money we would spend I'd rather go on a sick ass date. Image a date where you have 700$ to spend. You could go on a ski trip somewhere and rent a hotel and shit. Just a big spend of money when you could just go to a house party for free. I guess you should atleast experience it once, but hey it's a lot of moolah

I think some people take me(and life) wayyy too seriously and I don't like it. Really, whats the problem with trying to have some fun on the weekends or just in general? My friends and I are freshmen/sophomores in college and like, I'm just trying to have a good time while I can without people telling me what to(and not to) do and say. Is being miserable and negative all the time really that great? lol. I wish people would loosen up and stop taking things 110% serious all the time.

there is nothing wrong with it. If people are hating on you there is something wrong with them.

This whole social media whoring thing is ridiculous. I was snowboarding recently and caught myself thinking "i better stop and get a pic for snapchat so people know Im boarding". I realized what I just thought, punched my own face for being a basic bitch, and carried on enjoying life instead of showcasing it for others

For sure. I feel that sometimes. Most times I take pictures just for me. I take a ton of pictures and don't do anything with it. Sometimes I don't though and just enjoy the moment while it lasts and let it be.

Your school probably does it better than mine, I can't stand any of the music played. I knew my opinion was going to be unpopular and I was going to get called out for being a loser that spends all their time alone but fuck that. The highlights of my high school life have been about accomplishing something, making close friendships, epic adventures, and changing my life, not being part of something that means nothing to me personally. Other people find it fun and I simply can't relate to it.

I mean you don't have to go. A lot of places proms aren't that bad. I went 3 times, worked one in 10th grade, and then went for real in 11th and 12. Just took friends each time. Tux was only like 150 to rent or something. A lot of loot but didn't really spend on anything else. I think 11th grade we went to a nice restaurant but didn't spend too wildly.

Prom def wasn't the best part of highschool for me, or even close but I had a fun time. Danced, chilled with friends, unveiled my latest bboy moves.

I think people make an overkill deal about it now. Especially the way social media has made everything kind of fake and lacking sincerity. Everyone feels they need to rent a plane to fly "yo jessica, prom?" or burn their house down and right prom in the ashes or whatever. But other than that it kind of is what it is.

I don't think I would have cared if I didn't go to prom but it was alright. I skipped my senior trip cause I was over highschool and not wanting to waste the loot but I'm sure that was fun as well.

It's not even hate, really. I don't know how to explain it. Like I say pretty stupid shit pretty much all the time and I like to mess around with people. But there are a couple people who take everything I say/do to heart and like get butthurt and freak out over it. Just being around people with a no-nonsense, no fun, controlling, work-work-work mentality is not very chill haha.

id say that was probably just your school. i went to a private school on the north shore and went to about 4 or 5 formals and i can say it was nothing like that. you go to pres with the group of people your friends with? of both of my own two school formals, i went to pres with the same group of 15 people and we're pretty much still the same close group of friends 3 years out of school, i see them all at least 3 or 4 times a week..

yeah and realistically how many girls do you think are actually raped at a pres, formal or afters? id say youve got more chance of being raped in the cross, are you against clubbing because it perpetuates "rape culture"?

it sounds like you personally have had a bad experience and maybe you didnt get invited to the pres you wanted.

man we must've gone to some realllyyyyy different schools then. I definitely didn't expect anything from my date, was just there because I thought she was the prettiest girl out there. didn't hear of any pressure like that elsewhere at prom, but maybe I'm in the minority idk.

Disclaimer, I really don't like prom/school dances all that much either, but being able to spend that time with all your classmates for once (it's really hard to rally people from all clique's into one place) before you likely never see most of them is pretty chill.

It gives you a chance to do something different for a change yaknow (and naw, most people didn't get drunk before ours so like I said maybe everyone's situation differs quite a bit)?

in australia we had pre's before hand and then got like a hired bus or whatever in to formal and everyone had like beers or wine and then most people had a flask for the actual formal, or if you were 18 at the time you could get drinks there. and then we would get like 2 or 3 party buses back to afters and get fucked.

there was never any pressure put on you to fuck your date, but most people would as they're obviously close enough with them to ask them to the formal in the first place.

for my year 12 one i had broken up with my girlfriend like a couple of months before so i just took a pretty girl who i had been friends with for years and it was purely platonic. i didnt expect anything nor did i want it. my friends certainly werent g'ing me up to fuck her either, they knew we were just mates and didnt even care.

ahhh yeah australia's got an 18 year old drinking age. But yeah that's what I mean, that doesn't sound like such a terrible time and i'm sure you could get away with not drinking if you didn't feel like it.

spot on

50% of my time at work is spent doing other peoples jobs that were just too lazy to do it correctly in the first place.

Spent the weekend helping my aunt and uncle move. And while I don't mind helping out, it pisses me off when I end up getting more done than all four of my cousins combined. Honest to god, two of them left to go hang out with friends, one just sat on his bed and did nothing, and the other invited his girlfriend over and then laid on the couch with her all night. I pretty much packed a 53' trailer by myself. And then I had to listen to one of them complain when his mother said he wasn't doing anything.

I have heard that I have a good work ethic, but I have never really thought much about it. Is this how lazy the world is becoming?

I honestly feel bad if I'm not putting forth all my effort into a task that is asked of me to complete or I am getting paid for.

people's perception of "hard work" is hilarious. I was at a bar a few nights ago, and the bartender was whining all night about how hard he was having to work. You really think being a bartender in a semi-crowded dive bar is a hard job?

Having worked at Target, I would have to agree. Some of those people would take a break ever hour and then complain that they have too much work to do. Well if you didn't spend so much time sitting on your ass maybe you could get more done.

I hate hearing waiters and bartenders complain about this. Seems like they're always the ones complaining about how hard and under valued their job is. There are plenty of worse jobs where people don't get paid shit, and their jobs are barely even recognized.

Idk, not hating on those jobs, I just hate seeing shit all over facebook and the rest of the webz about how bartending is the worlds hardest job, they don't make enough money, and nobody understand them.

As far as work ethic, there are some jobs I've hate, but I still always took pride in my job and did the best I could. Even shitty jobs like dishwashing, trying to make things as efficient as possible, offering to grab stuff for the cooks all the time whatever. When I checked tickets after I broke my shoulder(no scanners) smiled, talked to everyone, looked like I loved my job, got a great revue, but I fucking HATED it. IT was temporary and it got me out of the house while my shoulder healed so I did as best I could.

Everyone has some bad days but some people are so fucking lazy it blows my mind. I got lucky enough to work with a great group of people on park crew this year. Never been on such a hardworking crew where everyone killed it. Unfortunately everyone is going their separate ways next year, but it's nice to run into once in a while. When you can rely on other people to get their shit done, you help them, they help you, it's amazing. It's sad that it's so rare.

someone doesnt have to "put out" to not be a virgin.

im quite surprised in this day and age when i meet someone my age (20) that is a virgin. i dont say anything about it though.

it is so annoying to hear my older coworkers make fun of anybody who isn't over 30, a republican and who doesn't look and act like them.

because its high school and the combination of teenage boy hormones and psychology make us hornier than ever. there is a reason the term "young, dumb, and full of cum" has been coined. high school kids want to fuck anything that breathes with holes. just the way it is and has been for ever now. boys will be boys and girls will be girls.

don't get worried or anything people wont like you because you're a virgin. that's just more societal bullshit that people use to generate opinions of people from. sex is important for humans but don't put a huge emphasis on it right now. Its HS, you have time to figure things out and meet someone you really do care about and share a mutual trust/respect with. I personally went thru HS without a girlfriend and losing my virginity, and there are tons and tons of cases of people who didn't start their dating and exploration phases till college, too. Worry about the things that matter to you like friends, academic performance, skiing, etc. whatever it may be.

sorry for the rambling, im baked/putting off studying for finals.

Dear Australians, stop fucking posting shit about two criminals who were executed today. They were drug smugglers who consently chose to smuggle drugs out of a country who is wildly known to be extremely harsh on drug laws. You don't care about the 1356 criminals in America who have been executed since 1976

its an interesting area, this is one of the oldest neighborhoods in the area and it also backs up to a state park. so part of the start park is actually on peoples properties along with trails an stuff. I totally get its his property but he doesn't have to be an asshole just or the sake of it. literally no reason to do that to the trail at all other than trying to kick up some dust cuz your an old bored man.

Pretty fucked. Getting people to do a little detour around would be the easiest way. People would probably down. But if you're going to try to booby trap shit and hurt people? Fuck you, it's on.

its like pieces of metal and tent spikes I think. he used to have a "for sale" sign conveniently in the middle of the trail so people detoured up onto his property around it, then he just said fuck it and threw some shit down to fuck with peoples tires. Hes a real dick.

In a lot of pain. Back is fucking killing me. Kind of pain where I feel nauseous and like I'm going to pass out. Been like this all day Might go to the doctor. Hoping to feel better in the morning. Can't find a comfortable position to sit or lay down. Pretty much just looking for ones where for a little bit it hurts, but I don't feel like I'm going to pass out.

Haven't gotten to the point where I've almost dropped. Just the start of those feelings. Took some advil, some other shit and a xanax. Hoping I'll feel a little better.

Also for an unrelated rant. Found out I made it through the first and 2nd rounds for a job in NZ today. Invited to an interview but I have to show up in person. They have something about skype/phone interviews in their faq so I emailed hr about that because they say they "really really want to meet you in person". Also that for some jobs in person is a necessity.

Because I applied for Park Crew which has SOME guest interaction I need to go in person apparently. I understand there's guest interaction but it's park people, those are my people, and I have good guest service skills all around anyway. They could talk to my references about my guest service skills and give me an interview overseas. I kind of feel like it has nothing to do with anything other than that being their policy they drew up at some point and they need to stick with it.

The reason this sucks is that I'm in America. I would like to work in NZ again, but I was there last year and used my free work holiday visa. Basically I'll have to pay $600 and apply from America for the visa but I won't know if I got the job till I get to NZ. Honestly don't really want to work there all summer if I'm not working at a mountain.

I kind of wrote off going this summer and wanted to start building/selling some rails back east but next winter I'm going to be grooming. First year, not working park crew in a while(10 seasons park). So I kind of like the idea of getting another season in parks this summer, also I kind of want to get the fuck out of America for the summer again.

Idk what I'm going to do. Thinking of getting super risky and just getting the visa, getting the plane ticket, and hoping to god I get the job. OF not I'm kind of fucked and out a bunch of money or have the option to try and find another job that I don't hate to pay the bills, or wook out and adventure while hemorrhaging money. Also I work at fucking ski areas so I don't really have money to waste.

Not sure what to do. Hopefully either way things work out well. Maybe find some happiness along the way
