ALright so i got a computer, and my dad wants to buy more ram, a gig more. here's the specs...

Pentium(r) 4 CPU 3.00GHz

2.99Ghz, 1.00 GB of RAM

so in the end he wants 2.00 GB of RAM

is this too much ram?

you can never really get too much ram, only problem is it's fucking expensive as hell. if he will buy you more ram go for it. is it a laptop or a desktop?

 
there's no such thing as too much ram. unless he plans on only using the computer for the internet and email. then he's just wasting his money. but 2 gigs is plenty, and will be plenty for a long time, unless him or you decide to become a professional music producer or video editor, and even then 2 gigs is plenty

I got a gig right now and it's plenty enough for using multiple adobe products, games and etc. Like Strode said it all depends what you will use it for.

after a gig its pretty excssive to get more. theres no much your run on a 3GHz that will need more then yoru 1Gig. and ram is actually pretty cheap right now

i call a computer store and they charge like 99 for 1 512 chip, so if i wanted a gig thats 200 bucks, is that cheap or shitty?

^that's shitty unless it's ddr. you can get 512mb SDram chips off ebay for $35. if it's ddr ram though i don't know.

little overpriced...my price is $59 canadian per 512 for that would be $120 for a gig

Unless you run some crazy software, 1.0 is by far enough. I believe my home computer is now a year old and is running on 318MB ram...I didnt even know it was passed 600 yet.

We'll have you dead pretty soon.
 
ive got a gig and i love it, you definatly dont need any more unless your using reason, cubace, or an intence CAD program
