Rails

I've never done a rail and am wondering how to slide right and if it hurts the skis. Any advice

It wont hurt your skis to much at all if you hit it right. Approach the rail with it in between your skis at moderate speed. When you pop of the lip turn 90 degrees and keep focused on the end of the rail. Do not lean back or you will eat shit. I always tell myself to lean foward since you have a tendency to lean back and I usually dont have a problem. There is alot of articles about this as well.

This post made possible by the SSC freeride crew.

jump on, keep your feet as flat as possible, a little more than shoulder width apart, and dont look at your feet. look at where you will land on the rail, then right as you land, look to the end of the rail so you keep your balance

I just learned rails recently. Havent fallen once! woop woop. anyway, my ONE ski has little scratches because when i first started... i didnt balance out my weight... and it was all of the first ski. the back ski just kind of drug behind. but i fixed my mistakes.. and it's all good now. Im not a guy so i dont have any (dont nut yourself) advice. Otherwise... my advice is to start on a baby rail where you dont have that big of a fall, and make sure you pop off the jump, dont attempt to ride on to it. (that wont work) dont let your feet get ahead of you... and other than that... HAPPY JIBBING!
