rail tips

i would say lean far forward... first rail attempt = pulled ligament between the ribs; made a cool wheezing sound that barely sounded human though

'Who is your daddy, and what does he do?' -Detective John Kimball

on your way up have each ski on either side of the rail, look where you want to land on it and hop on 90, look aheah like 2 feet and stay centered, if it doesn't feel good don't try to stick it

RES

turn the full 90, and look at the end of the rail

.............and that brings us to our next point...dont smoke crack

I have half assed tryed some small rails but this winter i wanna get some actual rail skill. tow problems i have. one when you spin on 90 how is it possible to start turning the other way to land forward? im fins with landing backwards but i am curious. and two they say to have a good stance stay low and jeep you feet wide apart (duhh) but doesent that mean u have to use your groin muscles like mad so u dont do the splits?

Before you try to steeze it all out like the pros, try some of this:

1. Keep your shoulders square, facing downhill. It may not look as cool at first, but you have to learn before you steeze

2. Look at the end of the rail, never take your eyes off of it.

3. COMMIT, if you are gonna fall, jump off, otherwise stay on the rail.

some things not to do:

DONT turn before you get off the jump

DONT try to jump as high as you can to get on the rail. just jump enough.

DO heep your feet as crntered as possible.

DO keep looking towards the end of the rail

DO bend you kneesa little bit but not too much

Get a full 90 degree turn onto the rail, that's my biggest tip. Once you've figured out your uphill/donhill balance it's hard to fuck up if your skis are stright across the rail because if you're falling off either side you know about it and can easily jump off if you want and not fuck yourself up.

I can slide rails but not well at all. I can't get it through my head to look at the end of the rail. I always look down and it always screws me up. Has anyone else had this problem and how did you stop it?

i found that, at first, if i thought too much about it right before i attempted to hit the rail i wouldnt be able to do it... practice, my friend. tahts basically it. i mean, you can try to think about all of these things (which really do help in the long run..its just a lot to think about..)

and, i mean, you're gonna fall. its inevitable. but you learn from your falls. so in the end it all works out. my advice: start boxes, if you can do them well move on up to rails.. but start with a straight rail close to, if not on the ground.

hope that helped.. good luck

yeah and when going along the rail always look to the end of the rail and try and not get on ur edegs and nothing will happen

Yeah id say practise sliding sideways on boxes, practise practise practise, I think im naturally unskilled in the rails haha, oh well Iv done alot last year il give it another go on some more difficult rails now.

to land forward you have to keep your upper body pointing down the hill. i find its also easier to balance this way

this is scary at first, but make sure you have plenty of speed. if you are going slow you have to balance on it for longer. also, keep feet pretty wide apart and try to keep most of your weight on forward ski, so your skis don't come out from under you. Like everything, you just have to be focussed and know that you can do it. Also make sure to keep your eyes on the end of the rail. you ahve to be able to see where your going to end up, just like every otehr aspect of skiing.

if ur lucky try a short up rail as ut first rail it will give u enough skill to do any other rail and also u wont slide out unless ur a tard.

my brothers freind tryed to get me doin rails my first week skiing he just said hit it that rails impossible to nut cuase it was like 2 feet off the ground. didnt commit skis flew off and got a nice sack tap ahah. bassicly just stay commited and do a full 90 on wiht your weight centered over your skis sholder with apart

you skis kinda grip it so it allows you to go on straight or go for the 270 out prezel....something ive found to be similar but not really is if there is a patch of ice and your walking to school see what it is like to just run and slide on it after turning 90...its somewhat the same on your groin muscles

Your pretty much gonna eat shit. So expect alot of pain at first but after that it will be pretty easy and just pop, turn nintey, make sure you keep weight on your front foot, and look to the end of the rail.
