Rail Jam in Odgen

Here's the skinny for all who are interested.

The 1st Annual Decade Beat the Heat Rail Jam will be taking place at the So. Ogden Decade location (1735 E. Skyline Dr., just off Hwy 89) on Labor Day, Sept. 5th at 10 a.m. There will be two rails. Helmets are mandatory as is a parents signature if you're under 18.

Eric Pollard will be judging for the skiers. The event is Open format for Skiers and Boarders, and is best trick. There will be an hour jam from which the top eight riders from each discipline will be selected. Those eight will battle it out for approx. 30 min. and the winner will be chosen by Pollard.

The event is free and is sponsored by Line and Burton.

Come by, check it out, and have some fun.

it'd be cool if we knew what kind of rails they were. like if it's something i'm capable of doing. guess i could just go anyway. but my question is this...do you wear ski pants even though it's summer?

Where's Ogden? because i'm there

I've got a big fat fuckin bone to pick with you my darling. in case you haven't heard i'm sick and tired of trying. I wish you would take my radio to bathe with you, plugged in and ready to fall.

Ogden is about 30 min. North of Salt Lake.

Head North on I-15 until you get to the South Ogden/Hwy 89 exit (which right after you pass the Lagoon Amusement Park). Stay on Hwy 89 for about 10 miles. You will pass I-84 and Weber Canyon. About 1 mile after that you will come to the top of a hill. On your left hand side you will see a Village Inn, Checker Auto Parts, and the Rail Jam.

HUZZAH!!

Just Huck It.

Sorry you thought it was lame...maybe you can put out the effort next year to put on a rail jam in September on dirt for 100 people and make it just like the X-Games.

The idea was for people to have fun...it wasn't a comp and never was. I am glad your friend is a bad ass though.

I apologize if any of my comments offended you j-squared, as they clearly did. I'll overlook the fact that you implied we are not capable of sessoning rails on our own in the summer, and agree that it is difficult to make summer set ups work. There was obviously time put in to make that your event happen and im sure many people were appreciative of that. I along with the others that posted, were simply expressing our dissapointment with something we thought, and hoped, would be much better. Your comment about seeing us in freeskier was immature, and a little ignorant. There is no reason to insult people you've never met before just because they were unhappy with something you were involved with. Be happy that some people, as you said, did have fun, instead of getting all defensive with the people who didnt.

Thats werid you just said it was never a contest. but when you made this post up you said there would be a winner picked by Eric Pollard. If its not a contest how is there a winner? Im not trying to be an ass, but it was sketch. I thought it would be better sence the hype was pretty big. I guess we will just have to see what happens next year. hopfully it will be on a real handrail or somthing.

Quote from Btyler1080 "Ill over look the fact that you think we cant session rails by ourself in the summer" haha thats funny

^ some of that post was in response ot what you said in ski gabber, so i realize it doesnt ,make much sense.

But you did claim that it was a contest at the top of this very thread. I realize that with 100 people, a contest would be chaotic, but lets not claim it was never intended to be. Quit making this so personal, i wasn't insulting you. Most of the reason it was dissapointing, was that 200 kids showed up, making it hard for anyone to actually session the rails. The shop was sick, you guys have a good selection of skis, it was cool to see all of the new stuff. Im sorry again that i offended you so much, it wa snot my intent.

^Sorry for coming back at you like that. I was just super tired from working 15 hour days the last two weeks straight to try and get ready for this weekend and get our SLC store open. When I got home last night and read that it definitely set me off a little.

We originally were just going to have a jam format, but then when we people started talking about it on Newschoolers, we decided to try and do the Best Trick. We weren't prepared for over 90 participants. When everybody just started going, and what looked like to me having fun, we decided to go back to our original plan of just letting people do it and do a raffle afterwards.

I didn't mean you weren't capable of sessioning in the summer, or putting on a rail jam, but it is a hard thing to pull off with limited money, time, snow, and rails.

We were tryingn our best to take the rails we had available, make it possible for everyone to be able to hit them, not just the best riders, and set them up with the inrun we had.

We got two full zambonis of snow and we thought that should be enough. We obviously could have used one or two more truckloads for both the inrun and the landing zone. The hay was somebody that was participating's thought because everyone was riding into the dirt.

We're glad that so many people showed up, but it obviously made it chaotic and made it even more difficult to session.

You live and learn, and we obviously learned a lot about how to host one of these. The only thing that upsets me is that instead of coming on here and calling it lame and stupid I'd appreiciate some constructive criticism. Something like, thanks for making the effort, but next year maybe try this or the set up could have been improved by doing this.

Thanks anyway for coming up and checking out the event and the shop. Hopefully I'll still see you and your friends around.

next year try not to do it in the mud. i was going to hit it, but i didn't want to get all muddy and it seemed like most people were landing the rails (like you said, not that difficult) but then they ate shit into the mud after they got off the rail. mud sucks.guess you can't expect much though when you combine snow, dirt, and 90 degrees.

O. O. C. FOR LIFE AND THEN SOME

i agree, contructive criticism would have definietly been a better approach on my part. so, dividing people into heats could be a good solution to a 45 minute line in the future.

or you could make people do an egg toss, and only the last few people in the egg toss got to do the rail.
