Rail Jam in Downtown Toronto

i think high was 7 today. still way too warm, especially since im gonna be skiing thursday-sunday and wasnt some snow!

for those of you who dont know what yonge&dundas square is, its the heart of downtown Toronto.

Its one of the last places you would imagine people skiing

I love that I'll be skiing like, 10 minutes walk from my place. Totally wouldn't have ever thought it would happen when I moved here.

Grad student, on a scholarship/working my ass off, living with my girlfriend. Also found a super good deal on kijiji. I think most places in my building rent $100-$200 more than what we're paying. Also helps to rent out our parking space knocking off a bit more from our monthly.

Of course, that means relatively few ski days. Less than 10 this year. Not that I've been missing much weather wise I guess.

Moss park is a 10 minute walk from Yonge & Dundas. I live across the street from government housing and I'm a 10 minute walk east from the square.

But yeah... I will go and ski!

yeah but i just figured a skier living dt would most likely be either rich or a student of UofT or Ryerson living in student houses

I'm assuming that the Burton gear demos will be going then, might be open to people with their own gear too. I'm not sure.

According to the thing on facebook, Friday @ 5:30 is the amateur qualifying jam, finals are 9-10pm. Saturday there's an open rail jam, 3:30-5.

The waiver that's available on the facebook page has language for both skiers and boarders -- but I don't know if they have that only for the invite portion of the contest or not. Anyways, I'm right down there, so I'll check in Friday at noon and update with details on this thread.

I don't know about Burton and Mountain Dew personally, but about 5-6 years back a lot of local events in my hometown were done by a snowboarding shop, and they were usually pretty good at having a skier segment in the mix, though the prizes were usually more snowboarding/skateboarding oriented. I still have a circa trucker hat from one slopestyle/big air combo.

ahhhhh fuck sorry, I am thinking of an entirely different event... One that is taking place in toronto and is invite only. So yea I was completely wrong I guess it is open

Skiing Friday, so I am going to miss the finals, but I hope to make it on Saturday to watch the open event.

I don't know, thats the thing. Its completely secret and invite only for some stupid reason, a few of my friends have been trying to get in. Anyone in the facebook group skibums knows what I'm talking about...

Well, looks like I'm working until 9PM on Friday but will make most of the finals. Looks like I can't compete :( I work late saturday afternoon but am going to try to get a later shift so I can ski earlier in the day during the "Ride & Learn" period and maybe the "Open Rail Jam" if it's an option.

stupid training course for work this weekend (6-10 friday night)BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Pictures of the set up so far in the square. It's pretty wet, no rails so far. I'll swing by tomorrow after work, update again.
