i have trouble sliding smoothly on boxes or rails and i was wondering if it because i still have a brand new edge, do i need to take some edge off?

1. Wrong forum. Sorry dude, I know you're new. I mod will move it for you.

2. That may be a possibility. In addition to filing down your edges underfoot a little bit, lean back a tad when you're on the rail till you get comfortable. You know what I mean? Like don't be too aggressive in your stance, but don't be too scared either. Be cautious, I guess.

Good luck!

And PM a green guy if you can and ask him to move this - if they don't see it first.

dont lean back too much tho! most beginner rail falls seem to be falling backwards. and falling backwards on rails sucks. but yeah your edges might have something to do with it

yea it definetly sounds like your edges are too sharp dull them a lil and you will find yourself sliding great across rails and boxes also obviously center yourself but keep the leading ski or the front ski tilted back but not too much it gives you leverage watch any pro the front ski is always a little elevated

Maybe with more speed you will have a bit more balance. You didn't have to get off your edge because your gone have less control on jumps pipe and powder. You just have to find your balance and look the front of the rail or the box and thats gone be OK!

i find that the most important thing is to just stay centered. judging speed will come with time. Don't go too slow when you start out.

Approach the rail

with confidence. Also, picture yourself doing the grind. On this rail,

there is no need to approach the rail from a given side, unlike your

urban rails. I find it easier on this type of rail to approach it

straight on. So when I jump on the rail, I will be square on the rail

and this will keep my balance easier. If you lose your balance when you

are on the rail, and you run out of speed before the end of the rail,

make sure you push or jump off the end of the rail to the side you are

leading to. For me, I would lean forward, so I come off the rail

forward. At the end of the rail, you can land regular or switch. You

can spin off the rail tooAnd that's how you ski a rail.

Hes right. and no you shouldnt need to dull your edges it only really matters on inward kinks like a down to flat or a flat to up. And if your new to detuning you can mess up your edges my taking off to much or detuning the whole ski especially if you ski ice ever. I used to live on the east coast and never detuned but was always able to hit rails its just about balance so just keep practicing

yes, focus on the end of the rail not your feet. Ive slid rails just finde without detuning my edges but when sliding boxes ive caught my edge a few times before I detuned them.
