Rage Blows MSP out of the Water!

then you have a far more below average knowledge of cameras than me for thinking that Rage's image quality is good, especially since, if Tanaka's right, they're shooting HDV.

The contrasts are disgusting, the colors are flat, it's shot 60i (I have nothing against 60i, but at least, if you have a shitty image quality, shoot 30fps or something that'll cover up your image) and, with the budget they have, i think the cinematography (framing etc) is not really above what most amateur companies in here do. The only shot that I thought was good was good was the first 360 off a cliff, filmed from above. Some of their shots looked totally copied from LSS (ie the switch 180 filmed from a tree looks exactly like Thomas' shot of the cab 5 in LSS).

It's too bad cause I thought the skiing was great, and I have to give props to Ahmet for totally destroying urban. But the cinematography is so below par.
 
See this is why I only like watching urban in your movies, because you have the same opinion as I do when it comes to shooting.
 
they have good riders but i couldnt even finish watching cordouroy bucause the editing and filming was so bad. i couldnt even tell what tricks they were doing half the time. good teaser though this year.
 
i agree its a little overated, but its a great camera, and that best part is its starting to be availiable for relatively cheap.... or at least cheaper

that basically sums up this thread. Everyone should realize the hard work companies put in to make movies, love them or hate them, quit spewing hate, support an industry that supports you. Hate and shit talking wont do anything for an industry that puts movies out for you every year. Quit the hate, and be appreciative to everyone who busts their asses year in and year out to make movies, no matter how they shoot, what they shoot with, or how they edit. If it isnt your style dont buy it and move on.
 
I don't watch ski movies for the color timing or the filmstock or the camera movement or the shot composition. All that stuff is nice, but I watch ski movies to get me excited about skiing. And in that regard, I've consistently liked MSP's movies and trailers better than Rage's the past few years. The song in the Enjoy trailer kinda ruined it for me.
 
are you serious, of course we have to be critical...how do you think we progress. And whats wrong with giving an opinion. Noboday said the word hate in this thread, we just said that msp has tendancy to make very similar movies and this years rage trailer was flippin sweet...so easy up there lassy...its all in good fun

it's just right to express an opinion and some criticism...this is what will make companies realize what they have to improve, and if they listen to this criticism...then maybe they can stop making the same mistakes.
 
i'm not saying people should'nt criticize movies. But i'm just saying everyone should be appreciative that there are even ski movies

 
jeff likes the mellow style of editing. skiing wise it's pretty sick, and they didn't even hint at all the crazy urban stuff they filmed, i just have a feeling that most of rages best tricks went into the trailer.

1. People need to get off snowboardings dick and stop hating their own sport.

2. Get a life. Who cares if people use the same shots or songs as other movies. It's limited to what you can do, get over it.

3. There's always going to be one teaser better than another and same goes with films. Just enjoy them instead of wasting your time hating.

I sort of agree. Tommy Ellingson had sick footage for Booter Crunk, but the film quality and editing almost ruined his part. I don't know much about Rage post-Junk Show Diaries, but I do know that Sky has skills behind the camera or the computer. He nearly won the Telus film competition in Whistler with "Addicted," and he did all the production himself.
 
Who's "WE", you and your friends that come here to express the same opinion that you all came up with together. Because if your using "WE" as in everyone on this thread having your opinion than your mistaken. You should have just said, "Me and my gay friends all talked and came to the conclusion that Rage is flippin sweet and MSP sucks".
 
I love how you only come on here in early summer when teasers drop and crusade endlessly for your film company. At least 160 of those 180 posts are in defense or promotion of MSP. Does this actually count as marketing, or do you just have nothing better to do with your time?

In the winter, when I'm not at school. When I am, I'm on here. By the way, I can't remember the last time I made an MSP hate post per se, though nothing's going to change the fact that there have been some baaaad movies from that company in recent years, Push sort of being an exception. I'm not going to lie and say I've been in any way impressed overall by the filmmaking since Focused... why would I? I'm also, charitably, not going to mock you by correcting the dozen-or-so errors in that post (apparently you ought to be spending a little more time in school yourself).

You know why I've criticized MSP in the past: because of the trash business they've conducted in this industry. I haven't heard as much of that lately, so there's been less criticism. Same deal with every other company.

Your comments are bad for the athletes. Period. Thats who I care about in the end. I don't even think MSP makes the best films every year. I like some of there stuff. The athletes back MSP and some of them are my friends so I back them. THe two filmers I know are cool and love there job as well.
 
Wow i'm surpirse everyone's hyping it so much. Don't get me wrong the skiing was sick but the lifestyle intro was pretty week in my opinion. It's the type of intro that i would do on my amateur movies, but im expecting so much more from rage

Based on these two trailers, Rage looked sicker (in my opinion)...so u need to calm the &%$# down...and i think u should tell me to my face that my friends are gay instead of on a ski forum...

umm, Jeff_Lo right there is working for poorboyz, and iberg is on here as well as some MSP guys defending their movies on occasion, so you would be wrong on this. also, most of the athletes have NS accounts, just some use theirs more than others.
 
They are, again, not "my comments" and haven't been for over a year, because as I just said, little has happened to provoke any comments. As for the athletes, I'm (somewhat) glad to see CR back there in so far as it makes him some money. The athletes deserve the money and exposure. However, so do other companies' athletes, to the same if not in some cases a greater extent because MSP's athletes get more of it than others'. And when your company's business practices undercut, sabotage, however you want to put it, other companies with riders who have an equal desire to eat food and wear clothing, well, that's not okay. Thus my and just about everyone else's vocalization of our concerns in the past. And yes, there is a "we" here, because many people agree with my position on this. But again, refer to the first sentence of this post: there hasn't been anywhere near as much MSP hate on Newschoolers recently as in past years, simply because time heals all wounds unless you insist on reopening them.
 
But Again JD seems to bring up a rumor that half of the kids on NS seemed to believe referring to the TBC "rumor".....You always seem to bring it up again and again when MSP came on here and explained the whole thing.....No wounds to heal...kids just followin rumors....PS regarding to this thread...I enjoyed the enjoy teaser....

MSP athletes get the most because of the exposure MSP provides. For several of them (Eric, Abma, Rory) thats the only real media outlet they have and your fucking it up with you "crusade" of hate.
