Radar Detector

my friend has a decent one, but I forget which. Its pretty cool because it says the strength, and around me they still use ones that take a few seconds to "lock in" so when its just on 1 bar, you should start braking, but as long as your are only doing 10 over by the time it gets to 2 or 3 you will be fine (4 to 5 is considered "locked in" usually). Around where I live, you don't really need one, usually pretty easy to tell where the cops are/will be, but definitely cool if you just feel like cruising.

As far as legality, around me they are legal, as long as you use a stand. you can't have them with suction cups on your windshield because of laws about obstructing the view. Also, make sure you talk to people who live near you and know what the cops are using for radar/laser guns. This can make a big difference. Also, if you have the money and it is legal, laser jammers are supposed to work very well, can buy you a few extra seconds. A lot of the stuff may seem expensive, but its worth it if it stops you from getting pulled over as it will save you from getting a ticket and possibly loosing your license. Lastly, don't be an idiot, don't speed near schools/in residential areas. Many times you can get called in if people see you doing something stupid, and then it really doesn't matter what kind of set up you have.

I had a Beltronics Rx65 for years ant it was good. It started acting funny and I replaced it with a V1.

The V1, I didn't really like it. In the sunlight it looks like the alert light is on, the dots that tell you which band is alerting are all grouped very close and look exactly the same so at night it's hard to tell which band is alerting, I didn't like the quiet function, my car has auto shut off at stops and the v1 powers down without an additional accessory. the directional alert is a nice feature.

I returned the V1 and got the escort with gps lockout. It's by far the best of the three. Being able to lockout false signals is so nice, no more false alarms and when it does go off you're more alert.

radar detectors dont always work, and just saying if you get pulled over an the cop sees you have a radar detector hes most likely defiantly giving you a ticket.

as far as getting tickets with a detector, you definitely can. Laser is instant on and doesn't spread, so you need a jammer if you want to defeat that. Cops can pace you, they can visually estimate your speed, aircraft is in use in some parts of the country, they can write you a ticket for bullshit things like too fast for conditions, careless driving. If you're driving alone radar can act like laser.

ive got a 9500xi, i like it a lot, definitely saved me a couple times. dont let a radar detector let you become lazy though, really paying attention and keeping your eyes up is just as effective.

ya i know radar detectors aren't perfect thats understood, and im not going to just rely on the radar, just a little more of a heads up, na mean? Radar detectors are legal were i live and my friend has a valentine one and that system looks very impressive so im most likely going to get that

Stinger VIP, shits on everything.

The only thing that comes near is their own legendary DSI that has existed for almost 8 years now.

The range at which it detects is insane: usually around 1,8km away, never less then 1km.

Also it's undetectable by the devices the police use to find radardetectors.

And if for any reason they are going to search your car: one click of a

button and the radardetection part of the software is erased making it

100% legal.

Besides the radar detection it registers your km for business and

private use of your car and compiles that into charts, extremely handy

if you lease a car and use it in private as well. No more writing charts

and carefully logging the miles yourself.ow.

threw mine out the window. shit would go off at the most random times and honestly just became a buzzkill because 90% of the time there wernt even any cops around.

Used to have a V1.

Lots of false alerts but I dealt with it. You learn to weed out the false alerts and actual cops. Had a fantastic range on it. I had it mounted high on the windshield just to the upper left of the rear view mirror. Wired it in so when the key was on it would turn on and then turn off when I shut the car down. Wish I never got rid of it. Would buy one again.

My paps just bought me a 9500ix love that damn thing has defiently saved me multiple times. My mom has the Passport IQ things a tank, tells you were the cop is in relation to you like hidden behind walls and shit its so sweet.

but they are lazy, and if there is any amount of traffic you'll get an alert when they pop the guy a little ahead of you

Its true that they can defeat a detector very easily, but 90% of the time that isnt going to be their main priority when doing traffic enforcement. If you use a rabbit, and know how to use your detector, they are very valuable tools.

I have a Passport 8500, its meh. I want to get an installed detector with laser jammers

I have a Valentine One with the hidden display and love it. That thing has saved my ass so many times.

I have one and its saved me many many times. Definitely a worthy purchase, I have a Passport and its worked like a charm ever since, theres different settings for city/highway which really come in handy.

I hate radar detectors. Most useless purchase I ever made. They go off for EVERYTHING, even the super nice one we had. I'd rather go through life maybe getting 1 or 2 tickets (haven't gotten one in almost 10 years) than spend even more than a ticket on an insanely annoying and distracting obstruction in my car.
