Radar detector???

well, I have been doing a lot of driving to and from Fort Collins and Durango colorado and the roads there permit for some MAJOR speeding. LONG straightaways, along with some intense twisties and the speed limits in the twisties are always way slower then they should be :devillook .

so anyway, I realized that I radar detector would probably be a wise investment.

All I know of them is that my mom used to have a Valentine One. I sold it on ebay for her because she said it stressed her out too much. I dont need a Valintine One (I dont think). I dont give a shit where the cop is, I just give a shit if he can see how fast I am going or not :rolleyes :rolleyes :rolleyes . Thats why I never saw why they were so special. I saw a uniden that has a jammer buil in and it was like $300. I really dont want to spend that much, so I will probably get one off ebay. what I do want, is one that works. I dont know if I want a jammer as well (maybe someone here can help me out).

I want to be able to go 120+ on the straightaways (plenty of road to do so) and know that there are no cops around.

any help, and or advice on what model to get would be appreciated.

first of all, yeah you'll get there faster doin a buck twenty. but why, so what if its a straight away, anything can come out of anywhere and when you think about the big picture when your goin that fast your puttin everybody elses life in danger, not only your own.

with that said, a radar detector is only going to pick up the radar that the cop is shooting. having a radar detector isnt going to stop you from getting a ticket, especially if the cops shooting light because you cant really jam that. There are bumpers on the market that can jam anything but light, their not going to be in a little radar detector that sits on your dashboard and its not going to cost you 300 dollars. Cops shooting radar shoot at your licence plate, thats where the jammers installed is on the top of you licence plate. If you want to get oen theres a link to the website on www.xtremeperf.com . Two of my buddys have them one on a M3 and one on a IS300, both have gotten tickets from estimation. Going 120 your still going to get a ticket if the radar doesn't say how fast your going the cops still going to be able to tell that your screwin, and may not be able to pinpoint the exact speed, your ticket might be a little less or a little more, so you have to take that into consideration that you could screw yourself on that. But I'll be the first to tell you that i went on a road trip last summer, bought a radar detector thinking the same thing that you are. That if i have one ill know when to slow down and i wont get caught but i was wrong and i got caught doin 117 in virginia.

holy fuck on I-25 you need a radar detector so bad. i drove from boulder to cheyenne and it was nearly impossible to not go 90. traffic is going basically 85. you can get going over 100 in like 10 seconds and not even realize it. and on I-70 you need one two. im investing some serious money into one before this next ski season. in the words of john hammond. "spare no expense" im going all fucking out.

the speed limit on I-25 is 75 you can go 80 no problem.

Most of the police in colorado use "lazer" now so buying a dectector would be a so so investment.

My advice. Dont speed

I have the valentine...I would never ever drive without it nor would I ever pruchase a different radar detector. You would be surprised how much knowing the direction of where the cop is can be of benefit.

my brothers friend got the best one made (valentine maybe if thats it) it was about 500 he put it in and got a speeding ticket for 20 over that day, but the company pays for the ticket with a gaurentee

I have a escort passport which I hardwired into my car...I love it, probably saved me from more than a few tickets too.

I bought it through a group buy on a car enthusiasts website I am on. It was only 225 bucks through that which is about 75 bucks less than most places I see it on the web.

why the hell does that help though??? it seems completly pointless and gimmicey. I dont care where they are. I jsut care if they are there..

after reading some, its looking like Beltronics 935 Express is the way to go. it has 3 buttons, no extra fetures, but proforms. and all the reviews say it blows similar prived detectors out o the water. it does all the main bands and everything.

if your spending the money get a valentine or passport 8500. ive got he passport and it has saved my ass numerous times and to whoever said colorado cops are using laser now, whre? ive never seen one that didnt pop up as radar on my detector

its fun. you can see ALL OF THE STRAIGHT so your not gonna hit anything. it goes up mountinas in the ends and is flat in the middle. so the radar detector can see everything as well. if its beeping, I will know not to speed, if not, I will know its ok. there are no hidingspots. I also like to everage 10-20 mph over for the rest of the drive as well.

yours wrong about some fo the stuff you said though. laser is what they aim at your plates, or your headlights. for laser, they need to be stationary. radar is a very wide beam. thats how your detector can detect it. with laser, there really is no sense in detecting it. because once your detector has gone off, they already have your speed. there are laser jammers that you can mount in the front grill of your car, which supposidly work, and they do so by sending out a false laser signal back to take the place of the one sent by the laser gun.

In NY they are using the stalker dual radar gun, it uses some special KA band that only the newst of the new radar detectors can detect

your so dumb, no matter what car you have good luck getting even 5 MPG... going over 90 will drop a car from getting 35mpg to 4-7 mpg. and i bet you love to pay $3/gal. what distance you traveling? it might save you all of 5 min total haha, do the math, not worth it at all

In a Skiing issue (the avalanche one) they had a detector in it. Called an Escort or something. Its $340 but it is made to adapt to any new radar the cops come up with.

yea, im dumb.

did I ever say I wanted to save on gas? did I ever say that I thought going 120 mph for a split second (all I ever do) would save time? no! its for fun. I have made it into somewhat of a tradition, just because I can. Fuck dude, I doubt my shitty ass tires are supposed to go that fast either. however, I still think a radar detector would help me out a lot because I would like to average about 20 mph over legal for the rest of the drive. (not saying it will fully enable me to do so, but still)

yea umm no.

its the Excort Passport 8500 X50 and its good, but no detector is that good. that is literally impossible. they cant know what cops are gonna be using. yes, they can guess the future (usually what the europeans have just started using) and base their technology off that but...

it looks like ill be getting a Beltronics one, or I might have my friend steal me a higher end one (probably Escort Passport).

if your going that fast a radar detector wont help... maybe going 80-90, but 120 is too fast for you to react. and a cop is going to impound your car right then and their.

if he has lazer, no way can u react. by the time it goes off, you will have probably passsed the cop your going so fast.

your only bet is to use a valintine one, and even that wont save your ass at speeds over 100.

radar detectors are not made for that fast, its taking 65 mph, and going maybe 20 over... but as soon as you hit 100, you have no time to react.

I dont doubt that that is true, but heres the deal. when I go 120+ in the spicific spot, I can see FOREVER. I can see if the whole thing is clar, or if there are cars and obviously how many. what I cant see (too far away) is IF they are cops or not. Cops need to be parked to use laser, so needless to say, if I saw a white or silver car parked on the side of the road, I would know. But, cops can use radar while moving, so you can see why a radar detector could help me out. I would know if it is ok to speed or not beforehand in this situation. not to mention, I like going 20 over, as I already said.

oh its all true... a buddy of mine wanted to test out and see what the compedators had.

he hooked up 3 radar det. in the car, and took it out for a joy ride. forget the other 2 but they are the compedators of the valentine one.

the valentine one was the only one to successfully catch everything. not to mention the valentine one caught things 1/2 mile farther then the leading compedators. he wrote a 5 page review somewhere but I cant find it.

if ur gonna speed, fork out the $300 for the valentine one, hands down, no disscussion.

and yes my friend owns his own business, hence how he could drop $1000 on the radar detectors
