So I just bought one of these for 90 bucks.. yeah, get jealous. (I think it was stolen.. but whatever)..

It didn't come with cords or anything.. I need to get them, but I don't know which cords to get off their website.. I want to hardwire it.. so anyone with knowledge should help me know what to get and how to hardwire it. Thanks.

i have no idea who to help you, but if you do get it up and running i would really like to know if it works goood.  the speed limit on the sea to sky is only 80-90km/hr my prime speed is probally 120, but there is always traffic, one of these would come in handy though.

wow. look on ebay. you probably got way screwed over. Its probably an olver version (they all look roughly the same form the past fucking 20 years.)

go to http://www.valentine1.com/upgrades/ and type in the serial that SHOULD be on the bottom of your unit. until you know how new it is, I would not trust that thing and plan on speeding and get away with it...

also check http://www.radardetector.net/ the people there are very helpful and know what they are doing.

if it is older then a few years, you can pay $250 (I think) to update it. But if it does not do "wideband Ka" then it is not even worth using at all.

Nope.. it was upgraded last year.. so it's a version 1.8.. it just doesn't have POP protection.. I can upgrade for 75 bucks. These go for no less thatn 300 on ebay.. I got such a good deal its amazing. Cords only cost maybe 10 dollars off www.valentine1.com So, it's a better deal than anyone will ever get.

Now, I just have to figure out how to wire that sucker.

not ture. LIDAR is what dectors get fooled by. Not laser or wideband. it all depends on where you live also. i drive 500 miles from milwaukee to cincinatti. and lidar is never used the whole way.

my dad is a col. in the nysp who spends all the cash for equipment. in ny, they know your speeding well before they can even see you because they now just listen to the sounds of engines, which tells them exactly how fast cars are going. also, with the engine noise technology, they know exactly what car was doing what speed, because they can be identified by engine noise. currently, in ny, a radar detector is a waste of cash, if they want to get you they will. im sure the rest of the nation will be at this point soon, ny just has the highest budget, so they did it first. theyre are currently only 25 cars with the technology, but it has beeen so successful that by january 2009, every nysp vehicle will be equipped....

im not even supposed to know about it to tell you the truth, but yeah its serious........it works on the bouncing of the sound waves from the engine off of the pavement. i dont really care if you believe me either, im just letting you know what the cops are doing. my dad says noise of an engine is like dna, everyone has its own distinct sound. the NYSP have way more cash than any person or radar detector company, so i think its obvious that the cops will outsmart radar detectors.

so they are able to track teh 200 300 cars that are on a 1 to 2 mile strech of road, by the sound of the engine and weed out aftermarket parts, stereo systems, and all the other noises that are on the highway, and once they are able to locate this sound they can pinpoint it and analyze it in the 45 - 60 second time frame before the car passes them?

2 of my frineds have escorts.one drives a evo and the other drives a wrx..the radars are legit.better then a valentine

stereo and aftermarket parts add to the sound(or dna of the car) and yes......i talked to my dad and it has beeen successful finding 1 car out of over 800 on a crowded highway during rush-hour. they pull behind cars to identify them, or allow them to pass, and the ststem tells them when they have located their "suspect". they dont actually do anything themselves, there is no room for human error. it is all fool-proof technology. sorry you wasted 90$

the technology was originally used by the NYSP camaro's to catch speeding crotch-rockets. if a bike was coming at 160, they would know it, and get ready to chase. also, if the biker blew by at 160, it could be a while before they were caught by the camaro. in court, the bike would say it wasnt him and that a camaro could never catch a bike at 160, but the cop would show the "engine noise technology" proving that the bike he pulled over was the bike they recorded at 160 mph, sealing the case...

yeah that would fucking be a bad time. but Im having trouble believing that system on fact that their can easily be more than 1 of the same car in the same spot. it seems very hit or miss and I would argue that to the death of me in court. just tell the judge that a similar wrx was rolling next to you at the time, but he was the one who was speeding

That technology does sound sweet, but that doesnt mean the cops will always have the best technology there is. It sounds like someone could easily make a scrambler for this sound dna system too..

i don't think it works that well......it would only work when cars are speeding at extreme speeds.  I doubt it would work on my truck cuz its soo fucked up anyways and always sounds like shit.....plus i doubt it could caalibrate how fast i am travelling by the noise of my engine, speically seeing that if i am not accelerating i am not making much noise.  Also i can't see this technology becoming super wide spread becasue new cars are comming out, hybrids and electrics, so investing in this technology for the long run would be a waste of money.  I wnat to say all of this because this shit is not cool and i don't wnat to see it.....so i like to bash it and disprove, but if science works, then science works.

plus speeding isn't actually that bad, there are way more important crimes. Speeding puts yourself and others at risk (which is unfair) but it happens everyday and i belive it is one of those thigns that should be a freedom.  If you choose to speed then i guess your a bad person or whatever, but there shouldn't be things watching you 24/7 making sure noone speeds.

i'm just throwing shit out there for shits sake.

Yea... I don't get what you're saying... engine noise in a specific model can tell what speed you're going? No it can't. It's how hard you're pushing the engine and the RPMs you're at. What if you're speeding up to pass a slow driver, and you drop your gears so more engine noise is made? or some idiot with a standard tranny hasn't shifted yet. There's so many flaws in what you're trying to say... I don't believe it.

Also, laser is rarely used, it's too expensive still for troopers to use it. It's much more common on interstates though, so watch out for it. It's very rare on local expressways though, so just pay attention for K and Ka bands. X are useless.

what does it matter that your truck sounds like shit....that means it is easily identifiable. also, it calibrates how fast you are going based on how fast the noise gets closer to the unit....if you are speeding, they will know based on how fast the noise of your engine bouncing off the pavement travels. and there is no future investment. they dont have to program it for new cars or engines....itll recognize any noise it needs to

i dont think you guys really understand...

and it doesnt matter if its 2 of the same car....its like dna as i said.....if you compare 2 strands of dna from 2 brothers, youll be able to tell them apart, its the same with engines. they may be the same engine, made at the same time by the same people/machines, but they will still make a slighty varied noice. and about arguing it, thats like trying to argue that a breathalyzer is incorrect, atleast thats what pops says

there is only 1 way to completely avoid speeding tickets-- you have to have a father who is a high-ranking police officer(preferably in a fairly powerful police force)

its how fast the sound travels, not the actual noice made that they measure.......and to say something is too expensive for the NYSP is rediculous......you know each one of their car-mounted cameras costs over $30,000.....they have so much funding its rediculous....you ever seen their budget?? didnt think so, but i have

bingo.

i've driven my car over 80K miles all around the US, all while equipped with a good radar/laser detector, and have been laser-ed a total of 4 times...

what detector?

also:

your detector, no matter how good, will not pick up laser nearly ever time. but I doubt you got lasered too much more then 4 times...

fact. laser guns only work in clear conditions so unless you live in the desert cops won't be using them if the KA gun will work anytime any day.

i have a passport. very legit. radartest.com's best gun. (i think) i've had it since october and haven't had any trouble with it.

UPDATE: so.. I had to buy some parts for this thing, and I ordered them off valentine1.com. They called me asking for the serial number, and I didn't even think about it, and gave it to them. Then the police called me and said it was stolen 4 years ago and now they need it back.

I made a big deal out of it, saying I paid 100 bucks for this, and now I'm just screwed? no way.. so the police man had me describe the guy I bought it from and said he was going to call the original owner and he'd call me back. That was yesterday and hasn't called me back yet.

I hope they couldn't get a hold of the original owner or something because I do not want to give this back and be out 100 bucks.

SUCK.

Passport 8500 X50s are pretty damn good. I prefer Beltronics RX65. does close to if not just as good with radar range and you can hook it up to your computer and load software upgrades on it.

the V1 is slightly better then both of them withought a doubt though. think is, you can buy a new RX65 off ebay for $220. the lowest I would expect to find the V1 for (new version of it) would be $350 ++

i have an escort passport 8500. and yea i'm sure i've went by more lasers than i know of. but still not that many. maybe it won't pick it up unless i am being the one being lasered (while in traffic). hmm. well i dunno it works great, only one speeding ticket in all 80K miles isn't too bad

hah it does work well. i got this ticket because i had just left my house all stoned and forgot to turn the shit on, a couple blocks away i get pulled over for 50 in a 30... meh

to bad the V1 sucks. the escort 8500 and the bel RX65 pro always come out waaaaay ahead of the V1, its over rated. should have gone for the bel RX65 pro, thats awhat i have, its only like $350, good detector for a cheap price.

yea man. you can get a bunch of sensors and shit from Escort that you mount on your car and EVEN then it wont detect every time they shoot you with laser. The best thing to do to defend against laser is

First: Know where there are places cops could be. like bigger highways.

Second: Remove your front license plate (what I have done) or get a plate cover.

third: put Laser Veil on your headlights.

they bounce laser off your license plate or headlights...

Yeah.. take off your front license plate. I don't have mine on either.. but keep it in the car because you can throw it up in your windshield if you get pulled over and just say you still need to mount it.
