Racing vs. Freestyle

racing is my main thing, and i attempt to do stuff in the park. but for me its all about the backcountry and waist deep powder and face shots...
racing is cool though for me becuase its the reason why i get to travel and ski mountains all over the world and i wouldn't be able to do that if i didnt race.

Neither, I choose newschool / freeski / whatever the hell you want to call the art of skiing backwards.

i race for my school, we just have it on weekdays so i get to ski

i dont like racing, but i like skiing, and any form of skiing i can do i will

are kids really still trying to compare the two?

Racing is a facet of skiing that mad kids enjoy, anyone who hates on any aspect of the sport is working against the sport advancing as a whole.

FUCK THE HATERS, ski for the love of skiing.

Neither, both are too extreme. I just like to ski. Yeah, that thing called skiing for fun, is it still around?

word. thats why i race, i like freestyle more though.
and next year we get to go out west somewhere for training.
i'm gonna sneak my PEs (they're the fattest ski i own...) in my ski bag and ski pow.

haha wow....pretty much everyone here will say freestyle

racing isnt terrible tho, bashing gates is alright now and again

Why not do both?

Racing will teach you how to be a really good tech skier, help you with pow technique, you know, the boring stuff, it will also teach you the disiprin! you need the disiprin to learn new tricks and commit to the jumping off of things.

then you can go freeski and rip, and be a stronger skier all around. and do rails. Rails are a very important part of skiing. despite what some people write about in their stupid threads. Jerks!

speaking of the search bar its not appeaing on my screen and i wanted to search something is this happening to any body else .. sorry for the thread jack ...... freestyle i'd much rather hit jumps than hit sticks in spandex

ah see now that you actually admitted that you have seen very similair threads like this one but still posted this anyway well now people will rip on you twice as hard

I've never raced, and don't plan on it, but it is a great facet of our sport. I just don't like the KIDS who race, because they automatically think they're the best skiers on the mountain and they own it or something because they race. But it also gets undeserved hate. Especially on newschoolers. There are so many kids who say it's gay, but I'd be willing to bet that most people who say it's gay can't even carve properly.

nail on the head!!

i went from being a racer to a snowboarder to a park skier now back to racing skicross. why the hate?

Do you mean freestyle like bumps and jumps of freestyle like newschoolers freestyle? Because both are better than racing, racing is fun when you are in a race, but hiking gates is no fun, and the kids are so cocky and mean. Bumps and jumps is good fun but it is a lot of hard work, but the people are generally cool and it is all around a good time, and newschool freestyle is just good fun. Skiing is all about doing what you like most so try it all and figure it out for yourself.

So true bro!

A solid racing background teaches how to actually SKI, not how to make it to the next jump, skidding and sliding the whole way. It's a shame how many kids I see kill the park, then get them outside the confines of the manucured park, and watch them flail.
