Racers should be exiled from the terrain park

racing made me a better all around skier... and when my team hit the park.. we waited our turn and hit the jumps... and my coach. would throw dub backs and 7.s on 153 slalom skis.. he fuckin shredded hard.

sorry id rather be a racer then a pure park rat. theres more fun things to ski out side of the park! not saying i dont hit the park up i by no means am sick ill nasty. i hit jumps and spin some times.. love switch 3s for life.. but i keep to the code dont cut off people. and if i drop and some on is trying to snake it.. i look at them and im like. hey fucker im not moving. and thats how i roll.

Racers pay for their spot on the hill to set up their courses. Unless racers are coming into your spot in the terrain park where you paid to set up your own jump stfu.
Ski racing sets a great base for park skiing or any other aspect of the sport. stop hatting.

Just because I ski park though, doesn't mean I head to the park in the morning and lap until the resort closes. Depending on the mountain I'm at and the conditions, I might not even enter the park once. I still consider myself a park skier though, because there's no better way to describe it. I was raised on GS skis in Whistler with the mentality (my dad's preachings) that that all snowboarders and park skiers are assholes, but I never really caught on to the hate.

As long as racers aren't dicks I could care less- I'm friends with a bunch. That rule goes for everyone. we're all on the mountain for the same reason, just enjoy it. If they're dicks on the hill, they're most likely dicks off the hill. doesn't matter what kind of sticks they're on

First off, I have worn baggy clothes WAY before i started skiing in the park. Just because you wear baggy clohes doesn't mean you can only ski park.
Second of all i think OP means racers that just fly through the park cutting people off (Atleast that's how interprated it atleast)
Third, I have no hate for racers. I have friends and family who race, and yes it does help you ski better. I know many racers that kill it in the park. So I agree with you on that matter.

I'm willing to bet the cost of making and maintaining the terrain parks are incorporated into the ticket/pass price.

so you stfu

What???

Of course they have the option to use it, they paid for the pass therefore they can use the park. Parks are, for the most part, public. Race courses are usually not public for many reasons.

1) They're competing a lot of the times. If you poach their race course it's like some douche bag poaching a competition course that's closed to the general public.

2) It's dangerous as fuck to poach a race course. If you're below a knoll or something you could get hit by a racer going quite fast depending on the course and seriously injure yourself or the racer. Plus you'd fuck up their entire run. That's like someone standing on the landing of a jump during a competition.

3) They paid for the program, they paid for the course.

Stop being an ignorant fucktard. Racers are cool, jibbers are cool, big mountain skiers are cool, bc skiers are cool, snowboarders are cool. Grow up man.

Also, on a similar note, stop with the gaper hate. Unless they're in the landings and fucking shit up in the park, let them be. They put so much money into the industry and are on the hill for the same reason as us: to have fun.

This topic is so beaten to death. God I hate immature pricks.

i used to race... against dane tudor. good thing he wasn't exiled huh?
If more race coaches had the right idea of skiing and taught kids how to kill it outside of gates the whole community would be so much better technically and wouldn't fucking hip-slide down anything steeper than 20 degrees.
technical backgrounds, whether it be bumps or gates, is basically the foundation of all good skiers that don't limit themselves to the park.
and i fucking hate boarders(or even skiers) that sit in landings

Ok look racers arent neccesarily bad people i can thank racing for almost 90% of my park ability because you actually learn how to ski i think its just people without consideration for proper park etiquette are the real retards so stop blaming them i can guarantee that most of NS raced before they got into freeskiing so just dont hate

eric pollard raced.... and he was the best in oregon. strait up.. hate that right now.. i dare someone to hate on that.
in the end i love to ski.. fuck the hate

everyones sliding down snow with shit strap to there feet. who gives a shit

what i dont get is "being a racer makes you a better skier", like you cant learn to ski properly on your own, go the the gym/workout to get stronger, learn proper technique unless you were a racer?

Have seen several "This is my 1st/2nd year skiing edits" that have been coming out the past years? Not to shabby, quite frankly, i would choose a 2nd year skiing park rat over a 2nd year skiing racer to take into the BC anyday...

at least they acknowledge that and instead of standing around the park all day in xl saga doing an occasional sloppy 360 of the smallest jump they go put their skiing to use some other way

exactly. skiing in the park teaches you how to ski with your feet really close together and wiggle your hips while leaning back and trying to look steezy

Just an example...ex racers can chim in.

Say i started skiing in 2003 as a racer until 2008 then i switched to freestyle(like many on this site).

Thats 5 full seasons of form/stance/carving/limiting your skiing creativity.

Here's a good question, how much have you progressed in skiing over the past 5 years?Ever wonder what your abilities could be if you started freestyle 5 years earlier then that? What if you went to summer ski camp for 5 years and got coached by pros just like racers get coached?

I guess some of us are just proud we told are parents to FUCK OFF when pushed towards racing.......while others got wrapped into its sexy spandex and sweet helmets.

I think I get it now. You're trying to say that racers have the option of using the park so park skiers should have the option of using the race course?

The flaw in this logic is that racers pay EXTRA for their race program which includes the course. A lot of times a freestyle or mogul team will set up a mogul course and close it off to the general public. It's the same concept. There's a liability aspect to it and the fact that they paid for it in addition to their lift ticket.

All I was trying to emphasize is that in a way, we (park skiers) pay for the park building/maintenance in our ticket. And some of us (which is a complete generalization) go to the mountain JUST for the park. So in a sense, that is the part of the hill especially for them, and it's a paint when idiots do idiotic things. But not necessarily racers, just idiots and gapers.

Meh, I don't really mind. The only thing they do which is a pain is ski on the run in or ski/sit where you land.

They enjoy flying through the air too you know..

Guess what, everyone that buys a lift ticket pays for the park and therefore everyone has the right to use it.

There's been several nights when I've put on the race gear with some of the best skicross racers in Ontario and we go run high-speed trains through the park. We make sure the park is clear before we go and no one says anything but positive things to us. I've been park guys do really dumb things like traverse across landings without looking uphill.

Race courses are closed off to the public because racers pay extra (usually hundreds if not thousands) to have a closed off area to train. It's closed off so that someone doesn't aimlessly wander into the course and get smoked by a racer pushing 100km/h.

Stop the fucking hating on racers. Seriously, shits getting old.

I think the main thing that racers get from being racers is just being on the hill A LOT more than most people. A lot of times they are on it 6 days a week for practice and stuff so of course they are going to get a lot more experience from it.

I don't give a shit if anyone wants to go through the terrain park as long as the understand the rules.... I just hate getting cut off by someone that is just rolling through with no intent... If you just want to ski.... Stay out of the park... If you wanna session then fine, just be aware and follow the rules and recognize your place in the "food chain"...
I can see the other perspective of having to earn it... When I started surfing 10 years ago, I stay away from certain breaks. If the park is filled up with people who are just skiing through with no intent, it makes it hard for people who care to get many sessions in... I definitely also see the perspective of earning your place in the park....
I agree with both perspectives if that makes any sense at all....

i agree with your sentiment. buuuuut there are some pretty legit snowboard-racers

Yeah. Plus the park is an open place for everyone to ski in. Its not like its some private club house for special individuals. If a racer wants to take a run through the park, I don't have a problem. As long as he doesn't interfere with my skiing, I am okay with this.

my friend was coming off a rainbow box and a racer not paying attention made a cut like 1 foot from the end and my friend took the kid out with a full yard sale. while singing MOVE BITCH GET OUT THA WAY GET OUT THA WAY GET OUT THA WAY. MOVE BITCH........

there were like 6 racers at my home mountain, and they just got done with a race or something and they thought it would be cool to do a train on the big air. which is only like 50ft but they all over shot it to the flats and one kid had to get a helicopter to take him to the hostpital and they all basicly got hurt and concussed

so true...

Ill give racers some credit becuase the kids who are really good go soo fast! When they make GS turns they get so low too. I mean that takes quite a bit of courage, not to mention the fact their coarses are practically ice. Not all racers are dicks, some are chill and yes some of them do stupid shit like that. But racers to me are the same as snowboarders, they're just doing something different and when they do something wrong we instantly blame them. I once saw a kid enter this race for fun and he did it switch the entire way. He didnt win but he was laughing and having a good time, and all the other racers were pissed off for no reason. Its the same thing when we see a racer go straight off a box or a jump.
