Racers...rich or good?

to become a racer, you have to train in nancy greene and be part of a league...you cant just enter a race like that...maybe the REAL talents don't get their chance because of this. for example, I'm 16, 150lbs, no race experience and I entered the spin volkswagen skiercross in the pro category... because winning that car would have been crazy...my first thought: shit I'm dead: look at them...the U.S. and the canadian ski team is here...Erik Guay, Casey Puckett, what so ever. they are muscle monsters...well believe it or not, I made it to the semi-finals and almost to the finals...I almost passed the guy in front of me twice, but he blocked me and I aint rich enough to put 200$ ont the table to try to prove he did so.

so my point is this: HOW THE HELL DID ME: A 16 YEARS OLD BEAT SOME SKIERS FROM THE NATIONNAL TEAM? I just borowed my dad skis(elan cross170 cm, short, unwaxed and ghetto. they had a pair of next year's 195cm atomic for each run freshly waxed waiting for them at the top. still, I beat some of those guys...I just lost the little respect I had for them+ when they saw me and 2-3 other random guys, they were almost laughing at us and very sympathetic...even more than the racer kids...I dont want to generalize, but at least half were like this.props to the others.
 
They could have been not trying man. You have no idea how good they are. He probobly could have beated you by a long shot if he wanted... or you're just amazingly gifted.
 
honestly...they put just as much time an effort into racing as money, and its such a popular sport that if your not any good you can't buy yourself success
 
yea man i dont think that they would give it there all for some thing thats not a world cup race, theres a reason why there on the national teams, there really gifted so id say srry bro but i dobt you match there calaber
 
actual ski racers are good, that put 100% into racing. skier cross x guys are skier cross guys, maybe they raced at one point of another, but who didnt?
 
OKKKKKKKKK so ur telling me that the guys came from all across U.S. just for fun and that winning a car valued at 33,000$ isnt a good motivation? I'll see if its just luck, I'll try other comps next year.
 
well the pussy didn't even show up on the final day..., so not him, but others less known yes. and btw, this thread is not only about racers being good, its also their attitude, I never entered a freestyle comp of this level...is it pretty much the same cuz I skied with some crazy mothafuckas and they were sympathic
 
why would anyone want to race, and why do they think they own everything and know everything about skiing?
 
wow.... first of all, i knew plenty of broke ass kids who raced, if you want to do it for fun, in ottawa its about 1000 bucks a year for coaching and a pass, and then you dont need to buy 6 pairs of skis, you can use the same ones if you arent serious about it. which puts it in the same realm pricewise as freestyle skiing.

which brings me to my next point:

you conceeded asshole, you think because you came close to beating erik guay in a skiiercross that your god's gift to racing? erik guay has placed top ten in world cup races, and is one of the foremost hopes on the national team for a medal in whistler in 2010. skiiercross is a 100% different sport.

what a claimer....
 
making it through the first few rounds of a skiercross is not that difficult...top three advance right?

for ever "pro" who enetered there were five normal guys like you...you obviusly know how to ski and skiercross is not rocket science....

as far as attitude goes...I have been lucky enough to enter both major skiercrosses and freeskiing events - both have major dicks

I have heard more pissing and moaning about judging than I have in skiercross events...

Fuck dude...I have seen t-hall (the little rapist twerp himself) nearly cry over judging in events...

you did well....go find a pair of faster skis, most shops would lend a good kid a pair of fast sticks to use if they show promise...wax em and race em
 
sorry buddy not a chance, thats a lot of talent and a lot of training, money helps in that sport but if your good your good, and you might have got close to those guys but they have been training harder than you ever have on snow and off all season, if anything that race was just for fun, there sponsers give them cars to drive (Eric Guay gets a new pontiac every year to drive) no world cup athlete is thinking about going full out at the moment and for sure don't want to risk hurting themselves, getting into a corner in a skiercross and hitting a kid they are better than and crashing and terring a acl is not on there list to do, keep dreaming though
 
Skiercross is fucking sketch dude. At nationals some beefy kid fell down right in front of me and I had to ollie over him.

Either way, think about it. You might have got lucky. Face it, there 8 guys in a race? you get a bad start and your probably doomed. You might have beat a lot of guys of the start and placed higher than you should have. Congrats on what you were able to do, but on 'unwaxed' elan's I doubt you could have won the whole show.

Dont diss snowcross racers. Those guys are sav and just as badass as any park rat. Plus, in any sport you enter, no matter what it is, there will always be douchebags and assholes, whether it be freestyle event, skiercorss, snowboarding, baseball, football, hockey, croquet, lacrosse, curling, marbles, hopscotch, four-square, whatever... There will always be one of two guys that are complete dicks to the rest of everyone. Its the whole alphamale attitude... You just cant really escape that bro..
 
Dude, no not compared to the 10 fold they'll loose if they get hurt for that car that they will get anyways from sponsorships. It's a whole other level that you probobly don't understand and they probobly did the race just for fun.

I didnt tell one time Im a god at skiing, even if Im still quite good. second of all... my point was even: HOW THE HELL did I do this good against those guys, I tought I did an error when I saw them at the start.+ I can accapt that its not too expensive racing if you dont by all the equipement and all, but there is standards for skis on the races. so even if you race, at a certain point, youll be disqualified if you have only one pair
 
ok if there on a world cup team and they got hurt and a non world cup race how happy do u think their sponser would be, hummm? im not saying that they didnt want to win, but i doubt that they would try as hard as say if they were in the olympics or a wc race
 
guy i dont think u understand he got into the SEMI finals in a little skier cross!!he could beat every down hill racer there even the "pussy" eric gay who didnt show up at a little skier cross because it wasnt worht getting out of bed for.
