Racers need to learn respect

I'm one of 3 coaches for a freestyle ski team at my small mountain. the team is a sub category of the race program so we do everything they do. once you get to know racers theyre really cool people they love to party and come in hungover just as much as the rest of us park rats. take the time to say whats up. i discovered one race coach who rocks a GS suit these days but spent years ripping the park in Whistler and can still show any of us whats good.

It's not racers that are douchebags, it's douchebags that happen to race.

It takes a certain personality to tug-on spandex and then do squats all the way down a mountain from a young age and never win anything or get respect, and just get burning thighs, injuries and beat-downs from instructors.

A non-douchebag racer really should be a well-rounded skier or embrace all of skiing. How many of them are there?

Also, big-mountain, instructors and mogul skiers are not exempt from the "holier-than-though" trap.

I think at HC Mountain there'll be paintball/skirmish on skis - maybe a run where people on foot are against people on skis.. there is a set amount of time, but you only get limited chairlift rides up.

Tons.

Neither are park rats, many of whom are just as bad as the worst racers. Just look at NS and how many threads there are making fun of gapers and any other person who doesn't get what park skiing is about. If that's not "holier-than-though," I don't know what is.

There can't be prejudice when everyone is a privileged white kid doing the most privileged sport in the world. Frankly, butchering that speech is highly problematic and belittles real race issues in America, past and present.

Damn who let the tumblrina in?

You can make fun of me all you want, I could care less. All I'm saying is that saying prejudice exists between white kids doing the whitest sport in the world in borderline absurd.

I have observed that a lot of racers in our highschool league view skiing as a sport and only that. I know it sounds cliché, but I for sure see skiing as more then just a sport. I think I lot of the disconnect between the way freeskiers and racers interact stems from why we are skiing.

These kids are dikish tho

This 100%... I raced a few years in highschool but am way more into freeskiing, big mtn, etc and there's a huge difference between true skiier and the guys just doing it as a highschool sport. When u truly just love to ski u appreciate all aspects/disciplines

I have friends that are racers, some racers are cool, some are douches.

Some park skiers are cool, some are douches.

The thing that really hacks me off about racers is that they go out of their way to ski in the park and then have no etiquette or respect. They will make fun of park skiers imitating the way we talk or making fun of the clothes we wear, but then are always in the park.

I have NEVER skied their race course, and I'm pretty sure none of you guys have either. I welcome anyone to ski the park also, but you gotta be respectfull.

At school for one of my classes the teacher is the race coach and everyone other than me in that class is a racer. They constantly shit on me for being a "jibber", and doing "k fed misty cork blunts"

And you can't think of one legit insult like calling them a pole smasher for example? You deserve to be shitted on. I bet you can't do any of those things they insult you about. Grow a pair, you pussy.

The racers at my mountain are complete dickheads. They think they are the shit because their dad probably has 5 mill, but when they try to act like racing is cooler, just ask them whether they would rather be running into plastic poles all day or busting lip blind 2s.

So you're saying prejudice MUST involve a black person? Must involve race(but not racers)?

Semi related, can black people be prejudice?

Dub post, I got distracted by some PC asshole, what I came here to say was,

'Wait, racers are assholes? When did this start?'

First off, my comment was in relation to John18061806 butchering of Luther King Jr's "I Have a Dream" speech to talk about meaningless shit talking between park rats and ski racers. In butchering that speech, specifically a part of the speech about SLAVERY and black oppression John18061806 is implying that some shit talk between racers and park rats is on the same level as real race oppression. That's all I was saying. I didn't bring race into this, John18061806 brought it in by bringing the MLK speech into the conversation.

You're an idiot for thinking reverse racism is a thing. Classic white american attitude. Don't get semantic with me on the dictionary definition of prejudice.

You can say "oh it's just a joke bahaha blah blah blah" the fact is that jokes just represent larger engrained systems of oppression and maybe I look like an idiot sticking my neck into a conversation about fucking ski racers and park rats but something has to change.

I'm sorry to bump. But I missed this somehow...

wtf is reverse racism? Is that just being super nice to anyone of a particular race?

again, I'm sorry, this is a ski racer thread...

but RACISM IS RACISM...if you think someones skin color lessens the amount they can be prejudice, then you are racist.

racism has nothing to do with what group 'holds power', racism is racism and only looking at one side is not gonna make it go away.

(I also love the 'classic white American attitude' comment, presumably from a cis white male....check your privilege)

Since there isnt a lot of park skiers at my local mountain (scotland) there is a lot more racers and its usually me and my friends that design/set up the park and racers come and cut in making all the jumps roll overs and jumping off the side of the rail jumps (in my opinion they can be worse than jerrys in the park) and they come racing through the park when theres a comp (everyones laid back not top bad but its still a comp) and as soon as we go near one of their race tracks one of their parents which spend ££££'s to send their kids away for months training comes and gives us into shit even when we're not on the track? I think this is just because the parents of racers often seem a bit more stuck up and parents of park skiers just seem way more chilled out and this installs this superiority into racers that makes them think they are better than everyone. that being said im friends with a heap of racers i used to train with and they are all sound guys, one of the reasons i stopped racing is because im a laid back/chilled out guy and i just didnt fit in with all the stuck up racers.

Live and let live

until one of those motherfuckers say something. Then you gotta just take em out. One quick motion and bam, they're dead with a broken neck.

Sorry gotta a lil off topic, what?
