Racers need to learn respect

I don't know if this happens to other people but the ski racers where I ski are the worst. They think they're better than everyone. I was going to get o a lift last weekend and a whole group cut in front of me and one yelled, "out of the way park rat." I'm not saying they all are like this, but those that I've seen at my local mountain are total dicks. what are your experiences with ski racers?

Let me say this: A good amount of racers are highly egotistical.

This is coming from a guy who raced for several years, has a brother that still races, and has a dad that coaches. They think that they are the supreme skiers on the hill. It comes with the sport.

Are all of them like this? No. Theyre pretty cool guys for the most part.

Personally I would just shake it off. If it continues, I'd speak up. Tell the mountain to send them an email. Shit will change real fast

Lots of racers are super cocky and I hate it but not just racers there are cocky people with no respect For others in every aspect of skiing just got to zone them out and put them in their place somtimes

I was skiing at the hill where they host the state championship races in Minnesota. Me and my buddies found a pack of racers and we challenged them to a reckless free for all race down a ski cross style trail. It was a damn good time and we ended up ripping a few more runs with them!

The heart of it all is located in the enjoyment of sliding down a slope on pieces of wood. Park rats shouldn't put themselves above racers for thinking that we're perfect, there's a ton of park rats who are absolute cocks. It's not a debate of park rat vs racer, it's determined completely by the individual on the skis. The major key to enjoying skiing with anyone is finding that mutual love for the sport you share, don't try to find the things that set us apart.

I do have to admit though, what he said was pretty douchy but that's probably because he's never spent time riding with a park rat. It's skiing's version of prejudice. With that being said...

I have a dream that one day on the white slopes of Whistler, the sons of former park rats and the sons of former racers will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their tall tees but by the content of their character.

There can't be prejudice when everyone is a privileged white kid doing the most privileged sport in the world. Frankly, butchering that speech is highly problematic and belittles real race issues in America, past and present.

I don't understand why race needs to be involved in a topic about racers, and park rats. Yes skiing is a mostly white sport, but that shouldn't change your opinion on the entire sport.

just to play devil's advocate here: park skiers have definitely said the same thing to racers

Belittling race issues on a site that's 5% serious, my bad. My Dads only got like 5 mil.

And before some SJW takes my post out of context, yes I still belive racism exists in America. This thread is just not the place for it

I'd say what was experienced was just a classic case of human nature. A group not liking an outlier. And at ski resorts there are many groups as we all know. We all know there are nice people that make up these groups, but as a whole, the group picks on the the lonesome skier from the other group. Park skier, racers, big mountain, recreationalists.

You're just pissed because they ski better then you

Only a handful of racers at my mountain are actually really good. A lot of them can barely parallel ski. And the kids who are actually good respect others at the mountain and aren't dicks about their level of skiing.

As an ex racer myself...I have found that park rats as a population are WAY bigger assholes than racers. They think we are all out to get them and cut them off, etc. The vast majority of park rats need to learn how to ski.

It's not racers that are douchebags, it's douchebags that happen to race.

Stop generalizing a whole group, some of the nicest people I know are racers.

I know a few racers that are pretty mellow but for the most part they are pretty knobbish at my home mtn. The other day i was teaching a lesson with a couple of 6 year olds off to the side of a trail and a couple racers flew by and damn near hit the little bastards

Did you read the thread? This is totally a racer issue.

I hate racers when they are at the park they snake you cut you off stand in front of a rail, jump or takeoff. I swear they're practically like gapers.

Not saying all of them are like this just a majority of them.

Inb4 this thread goes off about race and says your a terrible racist

I have observed that a lot of racers in our highschool league view skiing as a sport and only that. I know it sounds cliché, but I for sure see skiing as more then just a sport. I think I lot of the disconnect between the way freeskiers and racers interact stems from why we are skiing.

These kids are dikish tho

I don't mean to generalize as I said. Obviously there are some really nice racers and some park rats that are dicks, but where I ski every ski racer is a total dick

Also I'm not a park rat either. I ski park and do a lot of freeriding. Obviously I dress like that so that's why he called me a park rat

Someone already tried and got downvoted so it's not going to happen. This is just how newschoolers works.

If racers cut you in line just shoulder check them or slap your skis on top of theirs. Quit being a pussy.

It sounds like you're a park rat.

some the racers where i'm from are super chill and we actually ski and film and progress together. Than again that is only 4 of about 40. the rest are cocks

How about lets call it how it is.

Affluent white kids from the ages of 12 to 19 for the most part are assholes.

I know... I was one.

I was an asshole to everyone that wasn't part of my cool group. Yes, we were the only cool ones out there.

Good thing I grew up. Not an asshole anymore ...... Now I'm a dick.

Just finished four years of high school racing. Highlights include yelling "I'm the best skier on the mountain" to all the kids (mostly the really good ones) and their coaches, shredding the park in GS suits, and the State meet at the end of the race season (S/O Mt. La Crosse, WI).Also if any racerat tries to start something there's a 10/10 he won't fight back, due to not wanting to scratch his new POC equipment.

I mean, let them be dicks and just make really jarring, accurate anticompliments when you see them in GS suits.

As a former racer it comes with the winning mentality. It's you vs everyone. So when you get good you get cocky and think you're better than other people. This happens in every solo sport, on the super competitive side.

A ski racer that thinks they are cooler than a park rat is like saying a insignificant, one-eyed, near death, booger picking, pole dogging, elephant ball sucking rotten tuna fish is cooler than a well skiing endowed park rat.

Came in here to say exactly this.

Can you idiots please stop making the same exact thread about how you don't like racers while being oblivious to the fact that lots of park rats are just as dickish as the racers you're complaining about over and over and over again?

kind of relevant..? one time my buddy and I got told to "go back to the park" by some 50ish year old couple on a pow day

Sounds like a pussy way of snaking, instead of wining about it online you could just not get out of the way. I'm not gunna lie I'm probably one of the biggest line snakes at my mountain \claim. I just think of wittier ways to get to the front of the line than telling the people to move
