Racers in the park?

haha racing is actually fun as long as you dont take it too seriously. I race for my school and i just go to screw around and miss school. Most of the time i end up beating a lot of the fags in their spandex and i get a varsity letter so its all good. Hell of hot chicks race too.

racing has helped me so much in just overall skiing

but you can be so much more creative in the park and work on so many more things then just speed and technique

i race, but also rip the park, i think racing makes you technically a way better skier, but park sweet. Every second im not in gates im in park. Screw awards, team pics, tuning, and meetings.

i acutally prefer practicing. you dont have to stand at the top in shrinkwrap for 45 minutes waiting to go down

no doubt, they all get pissed off when i skip shit, then try to alienate me the few times im there. i think they're scared to admit park is overtaking racing

theres a kid at my mountain, he is a really good racer, he even coaches it to, but he is pretty good in the park he can 7 and switch 5 with alot of style.

I dont know if this has been posted cause i dont feel like reading through all of this... but most kids that are in the park if thrown onto some race skiis could own... me and some friends did that nastar thing for kicks this year and with our twinnys (with all the wear of the park) and were getting the same and lower times than all those guys where the suits and gay ass helmets.

lol this year i raced for school got first and beat all these spandex people by 2 seconds and then i went and hit park all day (spandex people were not to happy)

no, i never raced and am a good skier. suck at park, but can actually ski well. you dont need to race to be a good skier.

you dont have to race, but it helps a lot. the drills help your balance and your stance and you get used to edging. something you are lucky enough to probably not know much about since you ski at baker.

and those chicks are usually wearing spandex.. yeah..

but the racers on my mountain are totall asses. except for one kid i know that's like 10, he's pretty chill.

haha i acutally hit the rails and the humungous 10ft jump in my spandies. i love the looks i get when i pull a 5 on race skis in skin-tight suits.

im a racer and i agree that a lot of racers are deuches. I mean look at the sport, all your weekends are taken up and you dont get to chill with your friends at home. But if you look at the people that hate racers there almost all from the east coast. This is because east coast racers are all only into racing. I live in the northwest and For me right after ski raceing i go straight to the park or go powder skiing, i dont have any spyder or us ski team stuff. I wear all oakley or Helly. Eric pollard used to race with a lot of my coaches and racing he said got him good at the sport. Look at the best skiers on the mountain, im not talkin bout the park but actually skiing, its definently the racers. Respect the racers, but if you see one wearing their gay suits or shorts or just being inmature and gay run over their skis it really pisses them off.

I wouldnt give a fuck, but the way they zigzag between shit, cutting in front of jumps and jibs, cutting people off, etc is just straight up dangerous.

I don't race, never have, but what's wrong with going fast? Skiing is fun.

Funny story though. I forget where, maybe Camelback, a coach for racers or something was showing little kids how to hit small ramps. He was teaching them spread eagles and just gross style. I facepalmed.

Racers have their upsides. A lot of the best park riders are those who have raced for years, then made the transition.

You're unlikely to be a good park skier if you start learning park the same year you start learning to ski.

I skied for 12 years before I ever entered a terrain park.

People have to understand that racing isn't bad it is the racing mentality their coaches push on the kids. I know many racers who are chill and good park skiers, they all hate their coaches. The other racers i know idolize their coaches and are the biggest dicks ever so there.

every fucking parkrat thinks they're the shit.

there's a lot more about skiing than just park...

yeah, exact same here, but i can 9 and flip, but whatevs

yeha, i only got to ski the park 2 hours a week, but his year im just going everyday, and i got 6 rail si set up at my house, so dont hate, some racers are cool

I never disputed that there's a lot more to skiing than park but honestly...isn't it a little ironic that the guy who answered me back's name is I_Am_God?

your getting pissed because they get mad at you for you fucking up their skis? their skis are most likely a lot more expensive than your skis are. I would be pissed if you ran over the tails of my skis too.

At tremblant, one of the runs racers race on you can only get to by going through one of the parks. Its so stupid. They charge down cutting everyone off.

its cause racers are taught how to actually ski, and not just huck themselves off shit. they started with the basics and formed legit tactics which helps in every aspect

My friend who races is pretty good at park for being on race skis. he can hit the big kickers and land 540s (with out twin tips)

ya there are douches on each side. the racers that wear their speed suits, and cut everybody off and are pricks, and on the park side its the really good people that are just jerks to people learning park.

no. atleast for the most part.
at my mountain there is a pretty big mogul program and 95% of the kids who are in it are sooooooo bad at actual skiing. they ski with their feet locked and just wiggle their ass like they are skiing bumps, just without the bumps. it pisses me off how bad most of them are at just skiing on a regular groomed trail. its especially the kids who grew up skiing bumps that are the worst skiers.
this is just at my mountain though haven't seen many at other mountains. i'm not hating on the sport of mogul skiing, just how most of the kids who are in it ski.
and peeps have to stop hating on racing. i completely understand if you hate racers but don't hate the sport because it's hard as fuck. for all around skiing i'd have to agree with a lot of people in this thread and say racing is the best way to start out.

This is an old post but oh well. I want to clear something up

Nastar ≠ racing. Nastar is open to the public and has the shittiest courses. My racing experience was in the Northern Vermont Council, which is one of the most competitive race councils. Many of the kids are really chill and cool. There are also douches. But it's the same way with freestyling. When I first starting skiing park I fucking hated all park skiers because I tried to do a 360 and overshot the jump and lost my ski. When I was putting my ski back on on the side of the trail, some douches sprayed me and told me to come back to the park when I didn't suck.

So fuck you if you're telling me that racers are all douches, if all racers are douches than so are all park skiers, don't overgeneralize.

i raced for a long time and it always used to drive me crazy when my group would go in the park and everyone would just cut everybody off and hit the sides of rails and shit, gave us such a bad name. and then i'm stuck waiting my turn and doing the right thing, but holding up the whole group, or i could just be a dick and follow them.
god those days could be frustrating

Well said bro. I will admit that having a base in racing a lot of times helps people become better skiers.

I never raced, but i have a friend who did for a while and he's actually pretty pro in the park.
