I ski with racers all the fuckin' time at the local mountain. They are way more knowledgable and better skiers than 50% of the little shits on this site.

yea most racers are cool shit to ski with some are a bit cocky but so are some freestylas so i don't get why people whine racers suck

i hate saying it but racers are way tougher than freestylers, they stand in gay spandex in ball freezing weather to take a fast ass run down a hill. HOWEVER! racers are def. not cool at all

i was skiing at a small ski place sort of in the middle of nowhere and some racers came up and did a backflip. Then they asked me if i could do any tricks on 'them double-tipped skis' it was funny. The flips were tight.

most of the racers I know are stuck up rich kid assholes but some are cool. Most of the jiblets out there can't even ski, at least racers can ski. Mind you, take them up on a big mountain steep stuff and half them don't have a clue what to do. I ski with snowboarders, they know what's what.

You guys are so fucking ignorant. How old are you people anyways? 12? 13? There are good and bad people that race. Just like there are good and bad people that do everything else. Taking this sort of attitude against people doing what they love is unintelligent and plain stupid. This is the reason I can't stand being around ski events anymore. Little bastards like yourselves ruin the atmosphere for everyone else. Racers train constantly, every day, they work their asses off to get the best. Half you little shits get a ride from mommy on the weekends and take out your little grom skis and do mute grabs over the 10 foot tables. I see racers out every day, pushing themselves as hard as they can go to get better. Work at a ski shop for awhile, talk to some older guys involved with racing. Get to know some of the good kids on the race teams. You'll learn what I'm talking about. The ski community is generally turning to shit because of you ignorant fucks. Whats next? Are we going to bitch at mogul people? Or Aerialists? Christ, you idiots need a life.

you guys are alll fuckin asswholes. i race with my mountains ski team and school team and i could fuckin kick any one of your guys asses. we fly down the slopes on ice goin 90-95 km/h. i would like to see anyone of you shits try that. racers have more guts then any free skiier does. u guys are all fuckin arrogant thinkin u pull all the sick tricks well fuck that. Racers pull awsome tricks probably better ones then half the people on this site.

(This is what it's like in New Zealand anyway) Maybe 95% of the racers I know (and I know a lot of racers) are absolute cocks, they parade the mountain thinking they are cooler than everyone else, they argue and bicker with each other like 2 year olds and make a huge fuss in the lift lines. A lot them can't ski for crap when it comes to extreme lines and generally are cocks. Of course there are differences to that sterotype, there are some very cool race kids out there too but most of the ones I know have had a free ride from their parents and get everything handed to them on a silver audi.

And before you start bitching at me saying I don't know what it's like, think again. I was in my national development squad, training for winter olympic selection in GS, so yeah, I knwo what it's like, I've been well over 120km/h on hard pack.

ski_gurl, way to be, your the kinda of racers that give all us other races a bad name,'i challenge you blah blah blah shit' im a racer, and im not rich and nothing having to do with skiing has been handed to me, i train my ass off everyday, and sure some racers are assholes, but without assholes we would all be full of shit. i ski because it's fun and not because i think im better than anyone else, im mos deff not. freestylers have some fuckin ballz, i wouldnt dare do half the shit yall pull. i think its awesome and i really wish i could do try some of it someday but droppin in to the pipe scares me, haha im the only girl on my ski team who at least try's to hit the park and pipe and as i see it, as long as your on the mountain your cool in my book, to each his own

yea I used to race, I think it really influences my style cos I actually know how to ski.. my bro's a racer and whenever I go to resorts I always ski with him and all my other racer friends, for skiing the whole mtn I'd rather be with the racers then the park rats who are in the park the whole week or something. heh I race in my twins too, those racer kids can be mean..

i dunno racings not that bad.. the only problem i have with racing is that The only progression the sport can have is through technology. I race for my school, and I have to say, its helped my skiing alot

Like What_a Wookie, i race in my twins, and a fat coat and shit, and i do it to ski. On race team we ski like 60-70 days a season, a lot for Upsatte ny. Without racing, i would only ski like every weekend, if that and i certainly wouldnt know half of the tricks i know now. Give racing a break it teaches you how to ski and progress in the sport instead of falling on your ass all the time

I'm a racer ad I'm not rich, nor is my family. We have an average income and get by ok. And spandex, we don't like it. Heck i'm forced to wear it, but most of the time i skip training for the park. I'm quitting next year to go all freestlye. You have bad people in every aspect of the sport. Racers ski well, newschoolers jib well, freeskiers big-mountain well. But we all do the same thing, and who gives a Shite anyway. What a wasted post.

 
heres my current feelings about racers, some of them are good, some of them are bad, basically, the good ones ski because they love to, the bad ones do shit like make crowds in the park in places they shouldnt and talk shit like ski_gurl, who im sure flies down the hill at mad speeds and does amazingly huge tricks

alright guys, heres another opinion for you to have a go at... most everybody on this site can easily say that they love to ski, for those who dont, or for those who dont have respect for the sport as a whole, i ask you why the hell you're spending time on a site that is predominantly people that respect one another, whether they agree wiht them or not. ive raced for years, up until last year, when i in part had to stop, and in part chose to, but i cant remember a single time that i got out there on the slopes and thought... my god, what the fuck am i doing? likewise, i cant remember a time when i went to go off a jump and wondered what i was doing. until i started looking around on the site, i honestly didnt think that there could be so many people who know so little about 'their sport'-- the different aspects of skiing (ie, freestyling, racing, moguling (?)) all make it up to be what we all love so much, if it werent for all the different things that made it up, it most definetly wouldnt be anywhere near as interesting as it is, there wouldnt be as many people involved, there wouldnt be as many people who were interested in learning something new. whatever kind of skiing you do, dont disrespect some other kind just because the people might be stuck up assholes, 'cause if you do, you're fucking the unity of the sport all over, and chances are that you're going to get the same lack of respect right back. i never make any sense, so i have a feeling this didnt make much either. whatever :)

For the guy that said that the only progression in Racing is though technology is completely wrong. Racing style and technique was change about three times in the past 6 years. It went from having your upper body completey facing down hill, to having more of your upper body looking across the hill. Then recently is you saw the Olympics that the Norwegians and Bode Miller had wider stances in the slalom and there was more two foot skiing. So both technology and techniquie change every year in racing.

 
And another thing, I dont think its spandex. Its called a downhill suit. And the racers dont like them anymore than anybody else would but there an essential part of wind reduction when going fast.

 
um, i have several friends that race that i ski with a lot, they are pretty cool and do stuff all over the mountain, then there are some racers i cant stand cause they act so arrogant all the time and stuff, but not all... just personality when you get down to it, some you like, some youdont, kinda true with many things and not just skiing

I race, and I think that the majority of the good SKIERS on this forum come from a racing background. The same can be said for the best newschoolers in the world. It has already been mentioned that Jon Olson used to race at a high level. Almost anyone that you associate with the title Big Mountain skier, has come from a racing background. Seth, McConkey, J.T Holmes, Nobis, and now Rinfret, all come from REALLY strong racing backgrounds.

I watched C.R. Johnson ski powder in IMMERSION, and you can tell that the guy is not a very good big mountain skier. Sure, he can huck his carcas off cliffs, but he doesn't ski with the fluidity and style that J.T, and McConkey ski with. He is stiff, and jerky, and I would by no means give him the title of ONE OF THE BEST SKIERS IN THE WORLD, that many magazines have given him.

As for the comment I have read a couple times that if you get a racers up on a steep, powder line, he'll have troubles. If he has never done it before, I betcha he will, as will anyone who has never done it before. However, I guarantee that if you stood a racer and a park rat at the top of a steep, powder line, the racer would be a little more confident. You see, the racer would base his confidence, and ability to ski the line on the years of developing his basic SKIING skills. The park rat would base his confidence on the hours and hours of videos that he has watched of Seth skiing mind-numbing lines. Also, I'll bet it only takes the racer a few days to figure it out, and then start ripping.
