I don't understand why there is so much hate (not in this thread necessarily) for racers. I enjoyed reading this thread simply because of how many people were actually like "no, don't hate on racers". It's nice to see that people are finally getting along, after all, skiing is skiing. Some people just like to go fast down a hill, and some people like to go high off a jump. In the end though, we all both have sticks strapped to our feet, and poles in our hands (most of us).
There is one thing I'd like to comment on though. After reading this thread, along with all the other racer-oriented threads in the past, i find one thing kind of funny. Every time somebody hates on racers, they all refer to them as "rich little bitches" and "kids skiing on daddy's $$" or something along those lines. I find this particularly funny for a couple reasons. First off, it's just part of the image of freestyle that so many people are trying to fill. So much of freestyle is gangster nowadays, including the music we listen to, the way we dress, and the attitude we give. So, what is more gangster than being 'hood', and chirping all the 'privileged' people out there. I understand it, all the gangsters do it. It's like saying you're better than them, because you did all they did, without all the money and opportunity.
The funny thing is, is that I bet you a lot of people on this site, and a lot of freestylers in general are in exactly the same situation as those racers are. Admittedly, I can understand that the racer vibe given off is much more 'snobby', but that's part of their sport. They're always in competition, always trying to be faster than one another. We're all about chilling, and that's why it seems so different. Also, I bet you there are also (in fact I guarantee you) people who race, who have a lot less money than many freestylers on the hill. Both disciplines are in the exact same boat. I know a racer who had next to no money, and was always riding hand-me-down skis, or old race skis bought at the ski-swap, and was able to ski only cuz his family worked there, and he was able to work his way up, until now he's an unbelievable racer who is ranked provincially, if not, nationally. And please, nobody who can afford to buy skis, a lift ticket, a form of transportation to the hill, and a computer (to read this), can start saying that they're scrounging for money and that the racers have it all in their daddy's cayennes, because you aren't in a bad situation yourself (even though you might not have a porche).
Lastly, if you haven't looked at it already, many of the professional skiers that you see today riding park and pipe were all racers. That's right, almost all of your idols all used to race. That includes Jon, Sammy, TJ, and Tanner - that's right... big chil, rasta, weed-smoking, Tanner Hall used to race. So for all you haters out there, maybe you should take a page out of their books, and realize that it clearly makes you a better skier, and that all those racers are just the same as you.

I couldn't have said it better.

++Karma for a really good post.

I hear ya about the money thing. One of my good friends goes to a ski academy, but he works his ass off over the summer to help pay for the tuition. I used to race, until last year in fact. There are lots of dick racers, but the same the same applies to freestyle, backcountry, snowboarding, or any sport for that matter.

first off, i dont dislike you, youre pretty rad. and i hate eheath. hes a douche and hes fat and hes gay.

but if you call asian_allen gay then

worrd man, good englishnot really sure what your gettin at here but nice...just wondering how old you are? your pics are pretty cool dude i like your styyyyle
and those rails are home-made just to let you know, don't really know why your hating on them,

idc really. some are cool some are gay. im bigger than all of them though so if they want to do start somthing it just makes me smile

I truely think that anyone who has a racing background before learned to ride park has an advantage. First of all racers learn how to control their skis. I've seen way to many "park skiers" in the past two years that can't even carve. Second, they understand skiing on the technical side alot more making it easier for them to learn at a faster pace.

Also, racer chicks just do it for me.

yes dude. These kids are no good. Both them and there coaches are the biggest douches. ALl they do is just yell and try to start shit with "jibbers" as they call us.ME and my friends have had way too many run ins just this year. The problem must be solved.

Im not hating on their skiing ability at all. They all are really good skiers, but they are the cockiest fools. I guess Snowbird is worse than most place.

and there are cocky ass jibbers that cause problems. at bridger here there are cocky ass big mountain dudes that will talk shit if your wearing baggy shit on "their" mountain. there are cocky dudes all over the place. it has nothing to do with the fact that their racers, it has to do with the fact that they are assholes

i dont know they can sometime be annoying but they have a lot of skill

plus alot of hot girls race

First off, I would like to say, proudly- not cocky, that yes I am a racer, or at least I was. but i do still race high school.

I agree that there are many dick racers who are pretty little rich boys( my main reason for quitting) but, there is also so many of us that are chill. I mean, look at how many pros are formerly racers. There was an article in Skiing about how racing is sucking too much money, and the other side saying that racing makes you such a better skier. I agree with both, i think that it is a little ridiculous that so much money is dumped into professional racing, but i think that racing does make you such a better overall skier. Sorta side tracking here- but i think that part of the reason so many freestylers or "newschoolers" or whatever you want to call them, are previously racers, because there is not nearly as many good freestyle programs as race programs. You see it with all of the acadamy's and stuff like that, there are huge race teams, but small freestyle teams. A lot of park rats grow up just freeskiing by themselves and not getting good instruction.

But i do agree that many, many racers are pricks, but there are also many freestylers that a pricks who hate on racers too. A racer being a prick is such a steryotype, so many of the racers at school think what we do, freestyle, is cool and are chill with it. A lot of them actually ask us for help on certain things, and are in the park with us as much as they can be.

We all share a passion for one sport, just different disceplins.

oh and to the thread creator- i occasionally snowblade too, what are you going to do, shoot me?

Sorry- that last comment was unnecessary.

I'm just so fed up with this whole racer vs. freestyler bullshit.

we all love skiing, whatever way we like it. If someone likes their meat well-done, and you like yours rare, does that mean you are better than them? Even if that well- done loving person thinks they are better, does it really matter!?
