What company buys back shitty used gear?
Yes some companies will Re-buy brand new gear that didn't sell that season. It depends on the Company and what they want to do. I've heard some companies doing this. Not many do.
Backcounty is also known to sell gear that comes back after it has been looked at, asses if it is safe to sell, and sells it discounted. Backcountry does sell a lot used gear on
http://www.geartrade.com/.
But it's not like they take all the return gear they have, give full credit or brand new gear back to the consumer, then send it back to company they bought it from and get fully refunded by the company that sold it.
No way hell every company in the outdoor industry would take back beat to shit gear. You think Line gonna buy back busted skis? Or that MSR will buy back fuel pumps with melted O-rings?
It's a basic business idea. You make a product to sell. You sell the product to middle men. They mark up the price of the product. They sell the product. Consumer buys and uses. If it breaks or doesn't work right you refund under a warranty. If the warranty was expired you were shit out luck looking for a new product.
Until backcountry came in with their 100% return policy. If you bought a product and if it broke you could get a full refund if you felt you were screwed over.
They use to be able to get by because everyone respected what the company was trying to do and would buy from them. This allowed them to be profitable.
Every time you bought gear, beat it up and send it back for brand new gear, Backcountry looses money. Even if employees of the company say okay the company looses money and thus have to make changes to the company.
And yes people have returned gear in the past just so they could get new stuff.
But now they are losing so much money because too many people abuse the system.
Now instead of 100% return policy that they have had for so long they have 90 day policy. Still really good policy compared to other sites. It's just now people like you won't get brand new gear every year.
And yes I speak up for company that I really like. So sue me for calling you and every other person out on it who takes advantage of backcountry.
