Questions for people that live in Tahoe

So I was trying to figure out what to do for my 21st birthday, I think I'm going to hit up Tahoe so I can ski during the day and get wasted and gamble at night on the Nevada side, but I just had a couple of questions because I've never been there.

Which resort is the best for a pow day? My birthday is Dec 16 so I'm hoping there might be some epic snow with a bit of luck. I've already gathered Squaw and Northstar have the best parks, but I have a good park at home, I want to just get as much gnarley shreddige as possible if the snow is good.

How far is Heavenly from Northstar/Squaw? I got a buddy that lives and works there who I want to visit.

How far are the Casinos from the resorts?

Which part should I stay in? And if anyone knows some nice cheap places to stay (emphasis on cheap), it'd be appreciated.

Also, are there any good package deals on lift tickets for like 4 days-a week? Or deals where you can ride different resorts?

I'm driving up there from LA, so getting around won't be a problem, I'll have a car with chains.

1. I think Mt. Rose is dope for a pow day, but you have to time it perfectly. Since you're going mid-December, Rose might be a good bet, becasue it is the highest resort in the Tahoe area. Squaw is also insane on a pow day, as is Alpine Meadows. Northstar if you know where to go.
2. Northstar/Squaw are very far from Heavenly. The 89 is closed in the winter, which kills the direct route to Heavenly. You have to go north around the lake and down the east side.
3. Northstar to stateline isn't very far. Take the 267 to the lake, turn left when it ends, and keep going until you see a "Welcome to Nevada" sign. Some small casinos are right at the stateline.
4. Stay in Truckee. IMO, a good base to get around Tahoe.
5. All I know in terms of packages is that Northstar does 4-pak tickets. That'se the resort I ride at, so I don't know too much about anywhere else.
Hope that helps.

if you're serious about this gambling and partying thing i'd just stay in reno. or near it. from there you've got rose, northstar, and squaw really close. rose and squaw = sick on powder days. and heavenly is not too close at all.

if you really want to party, which I hope you do since it is your b-day, stay in South lake with your buddy. Save some cash and ski at Kirkwood.

Yeah.. I agree.. theres always a bunch of raging things happening in tahoe during dec. because of the christmas season, especially if theres snow. Hit up south lake. Party. Then go ski Kirkwood.

Well yeah I decided to stay in South Shore, right at state line, in probably the Best Western, (although if anyone knows of some rad hotels, my dad decided he was going to pay for the room, so I don't have to Super Motel 8 it like I was expecting) for maximum alcohol abuse and blackjack. From there it looks like Kirkwood is 30mins, Squaw 45, Northstar an hour? Thats just guessing off google maps. I figure drive out to Northstar for one day, Squaw one day, and then hit Kirkwood for 3, because people seem to think its less crowded and gets the best snow, and I hear the park is small but fun, which should be perfect because my girl I'm taking isn't really that good.

Think I've got a good plan in it? Suggestions? Reasons to skip Northstar/Squaw for Alpine/Rose/Sierra?

I have a car too so I figure if one resort is getting mad snow I'll just hit that one up.

I'm going Dec 14-20, will I have any problems with passes selling out or anything? Its near Christmas but I'm going Mon-Thurs, and probably Fri morning.

And the roads never get so fucked that even with chains I'd be screwed right?

Also if anyone has suggestions on dank resturants or cool bars or like the best casinos, or shit happening in that time frame, or hotel advice, I'd appreciate it a lot.
