Questions about speeding Tickets

I was just pulled over yesterday night for following too close and speeding, he put me for 5 over. Now that's two $82 fines which are bull shit. I was speeding before I was following too close, and much more than 5 over, but when I was tailgating, the guy in front of me was going way below the speed limit. I'm 17 and would love to keep my mom from finding out, and $170 in my pocket, and was wondering how I should accomplish this. I've gotten one ticket before but that was over a year ago.

I think I may have screwed myself over by signing a form which admits guilt which I am no very angry about doiung, is there any hope for a naive driver such as me?

Go to court to argue it, and the cop most likely wont show up. If you don't want your parents to find out (which is unlikely that they wont), make sure you are the one to check the mail. HOWEVER, your insurance usually finds these things out and if you don't take care of it you might get a point on your record. If the cop shows up to the court hearing, then you will most likely have to pay the ticket. Just be stoked cause speeding tickets in cali are over $150

Nothing gives a judge more pleasure than sticking it to a cocky 17 year old that sucks at driving. Sorry bud, I wish you luck, but you're fucked.

tell your mom now and don't wait any longer. she'll find out eventually and you'll be fucked 20x worse then. other than that, you can take it to court but if the cop shows up then you'll have to pay the ticket. just pay it and dont speed again

Tailgating is illegal, and so is speeding. There is no BS about it. To keep money in your pocket, I would suggest not fucking up. Your mom is going to find out, so be a big kid about it.

yea tell your mom, but you should take it to court and be honest to the judge, my brother got a ticket for speeding, and he just went in and told the judge that he is a student, with a job, and that he pays his own bills and works, now granted hes a really honest and forthwith, but judges are real people to, some of them have kids somehow, and would understand.

ohh and tell him you cant pay the insurance, that's gonna be more then the ticket.

and take your mom, parents love to see that life lesson kinda stuff

im 17 and i have also had tickets, speeding is fun and so is tailgaiting ass holes. Although fighting the case requires a parent if your under 18 so good luck with that.....pay the ticket and put it in the past

amen man iv gotten tickets before gotten them all lowere tho no points thankfully but some people just suck at driving and speeding is fun when done in a proper place but some people just suck at fucken driving its rediculous. some people at my school should not be on the road i feel dangered with them on it and atleast drive the speed limit unless the roads are shitty like i hatepeople who go below it.

don't just lay down and pay it out the ass it's always worth a fight. Every ticket that cop wrote that day is scheduled for the same day in court, so you can bet he'll be showing up. The only fool proof way to get out of it is if the cop doesn't show,so get the court date changed. I'd wait until it's a little closer so he has time to make plans and forget about pulling you over. If you do it soon they'll let him know and he'll make schedule adjustments to accommodate fucking you over. When you go to court IF the cop shows up you can still get out. The first court date you might only be entering a plea. They might cut you a deal then, or just set you up with another date. Make sure to change this one too. If the cop does show, just be real with the judge, and ask for a reduced judgement. You can't win against a cop word for word, so if you plan on fighting at all you'll need hard evidence like gas receipts and photos.

I thought this was worth mentioning... there's traffic court all day every day of the week, the cops just don't show up because you have a case that day. If you don't specifically subpeona the officer (beforehand) he's not gonna show up, cuz you didnt ask him to. And its not going to make a damn bit of difference. You might as well subpeona the officer, even if you're going to lose, because if he doesn't show up, it will be dismissed (most likely, not necessarily) and if he does show up, he'll be really pissed off because you ruined his day. so at least you'll get a little bit of justice.

You will also want to file for discovery right away(this is the evidence against you including the copy of the ticket and the officers sworn statements) if you file on time and this doesn't show up in your mail you have a chance at getting off.

Also, go up the clerk before it is your turn in court and ask them if there is a radar certification on file. If there isn't one for this year, move to dismiss on "the fact that the radar certification is either not up to date/not on file"

These things have worked for me.

I got all this info from a good friend of mine who got some 20 odd speeding tickets of his own dismissed outright, he was a maniac driver. He passed away last week, may his memory live on.
