Questions about dying full tilts

i have 2011 full tilts the red and white Tom wallisch ones. Does any damage happen to anything on the boot if you just take the liner and tounge off and dye them? Also, how do you get the tounge off I might sound like a dumbass but i forgot
 
I took everything off them to dye them(buckles, screws, etc.), I would advise that you do that. For the tongue you have to pull the L shaped metal from the bottom of the tongue out of the boot, don't really know how to explain it, it's where the tongue connects to the boot.
 
the tongue literally just pops out of the little notch it sits in. i dont know about dying the pieces though so i'm bumping this because i'm curious
