What brand/model of skis does everyone use currently? What brand/model are you looking to get for your next pair of skis? Why? I'm trying to decide what brands to expand to next year. I'm getting a ton of offers. Thanks guys.

i'm sure this will come up so i just wanted to say it now. next year he'll have k2, armada, line, and liberty for all those who don't already know.

Even though Salomon isn't that great, a lot of people really respect them and ride on their skis. Old people in particular like Salomons which is important because they're the ones buying the skis for their kids. I think you will sell a lot of Salomons if you carry them at the shop.

salomon is too corporate. They dont care if their new ski is sick or not, they only care if it sells. The skis that CR, Candide, Mike Douglas, ect use are totally different from the ones that are on the sale racks. Salomon has sooooooo many molds that each skier can custom design the skis they ride on. When they need another pair, the geeks in the factory just select their pre-set settings, make any adjustments the rider wants, and press them some skis with the retail graphic or in some cases a placeholder graphic.

Spinks is right, salomon doesn't support the progression of the sport at all. Their retail skis are very easy to break too, they're made of foam. I've seen so many 1080's come in for warranty, but salomon doesn't warranty anything.

I know they suck and they're the worst ski company in the world. My point is that their skis sell. Am I right?

yes but the store's called jibij, not shitty-skis-r-us a.k.a. specialty sports.

haha just kidding, mike. at least you're making suggestions.

I don't want to carry brands that have no desire to support where the sport is going. They've already been asking if they can be in the shop.

we should carry skizzas and sell blunts and fubu on the side that would be sick and gangsta

i ride 4frnts and htey are so nice. but i remember you saying that you didnt want to sell them because they cost too much.

NOMICS

That wasn't exactly the reason for not selling them. But that doesn't mean we won't sell them in the future.

ohh ok. well if you do sell them in the future, sell them for like $500. so many people will buy them from you if you do that instead of $550. and in 4frnts contract, it says you can sell them for whatever you want if you are selling in person (not online) so ya. get 4frnts.

-----------------------

NOMICS

Yea, but that doesn't make any sense seeing how much I have to buy them for, there's no profit in that.

i take it you're not carrying rossi or dynastar for the same reasons as salomon? it would be cool if you somehow hooked it up with ninthward, and 4frnts are dope skis, but it's true they are more costly to the retailer than others. i bought a pair though, and i think they have a more solid rep that armada does. plus you know how many kids (me included) are going to geek over those 187 MSP's when they come out.

how about Volkl, they got german quatily...LOL. No but really some of their skis r really sick and really high quality, Gotama anyone? And the rest are also pretty sweet, if you could get them in it would be pretty sweet.

^oh yeah volkl would be an awesome choice. the gotamas and the karmas are both sick skis (sick looking at least as far as i know). and you know they're crafted with quality (never heard of anyone breaking a volkl). but again they might fall into the same category as salomon for you's guys

never heard of anyone breaking a volkl?? those things snap a lot.

I've worked in several ski shops before starting this one, and volkl was one of the most common skis to come in on warranty. Their park skis really aren't built to take the punishment that park riders are dealing out. I really want to keep the products we carry to brands that you can't get anywhere else. You can get salomon and volkl at any ski shop, but not Line, Liberty, and Armada. As for K2, while they are a big company, we're carrying them because they actually make quality skis, and they come at a very good price to the consumer. While we're on the topic of new brands, what about goggles and clothing? What brands would you like to see and why?

I am Klaus, submit to my iron will or I will destroy JIBIJ! - Klaus O.

if you somehow manage to carry ecko function i'll buy all of it from you. but that won't happen i'm sure. you're proabaly all over siver, orage, oakley, nomics, and DNA already, and i'd initially suggest a skier-friendly snowboard company or two maybe, but i dunno how core to skiing you're looking on keeping the shop. Dub makes really 'dope' stuff (they even name it after pot), and mission6 is good shit too, but you guys probably want to keep all snowboard stuff out of there i assume?

i hear SO many people say that sublux has horrible quality clothing. for goggles, dont do oakley cause every other shop carries those, and they are really expensive. maybe just smith, electric, and some others

-----------------------

NOMICS

Right now we aren't dealing with oakley, but we do have electric, anon, and spy.

got to get smith goggles...so many great models and combos with their lenses

I would also recommend Ninth Ward skis. The guys are really cool, and everything I have heard from guys that ski them has been great. And if you are looking to project the image of an underground ski shop I would stay away from any snowboarding companies. The reason I say this is because D-Structure (Belanger's) store is a ski only underground type shop, and Phil has told me that one of the reasons he has been so successful is that he stays to the core and promotes skiing brands only. Most snowboarding companies do not sponsor skiers or promote our sport, but they have been making money on it. Just my 2 cents.

I've been hearing lots of good things about NinthWard Skis. I will have to get in touch with them. While the quality and popularity of snowboard brands is very high, I don't really want to carry them. All of their promotional material is snowboard oriented. I have big banners of almost all the companies I'm carrying, with skiers on them. These companies really know what it means to be a skier.

Volkl makes poor quality skis?? And K2 is very high quality?? Okay. I know youre trying to stay 'core' and all, but you cant tell me the point of business isn't to make money. If all you want to do is break even or make a couple percent and be happy, you could much easier take your money to the bank and open a savings account.

hmm, sublux, thats cody's company, cody has alot of control over freeskier, tell them you'll only cary sublux for cover shots for jibij athletes.

I didn't see one pair of K2's come in for warranty last season, but I lost count of the number of Volkl's I saw that were just destroyed. If you really want to buy Volkl's just go to any other ski shop.

It would be really cool to see a good selection of skier specific outerwear for once. Its so hard to find decent clothes that are not snowboarding clothes. DNA, Phenix, Rotor, SnoMotion, etc. come to mind. Although highly corperate, expensive, and more snowboarder supportive than skier, Oakley makes a good product. Sessions would be really cool, too. They've been supporting skiers for a while and have cool, inexpensive stuff. Especially for girls, and that's hard to find.

i picked out most of the girls stuff so come check it out. i've got my eye on some orage stuff.

I rode Line MoShips last season. They are going to be my AT ski this season. I'm gonna buy a pair of the new Armada ARV's for inbounds whenever they come out. You should definitely carry Sessions gear.

The Ryan

I have a pair of Orage girls pants and they're embarassing. They're tight in the ass and short and look stupid. Some of their jackets are really cool, but I won't even wear that crap anymore.

Anyway, I was just thinking, what are you going to be selling boot wise? Cause if your not selling Salomon, you're loosing a huge market with the 1080 boot. Boot choice is really just a matter of what fits your foot, not company loyalty. All those ogre footer mofo's are going to be out of luck without the 1080, and without nordica, people with narrow feet and low insteps are limited to lange, which dosn't make a good soft jib boot.

On a similiar note, if you could get in touch with the kniesel rep and carry the flexon, that would be just ridiculous! such a good boot, and so hard to find. You would cover the entire front range market with that shit.

just an idea...

Kneissel doesn't sell in the US any more. But Dalbello bought the design for the flexon. I'm not carrying boots right now, since there aren't very many good jib boots out there. But we will probably bring in boots next year.

I ski switch.

im either gettin fujatives cuz they r inexpensive and have really good pop or steele's promodel cuz ive heard they r really sick but i still want to try them first.

The MSRP on Public Enemy's is $379. MSRP on Look Pivot Jib bindings is $305. But we will be having sales all the time.

I ski switch.

Because the people who run boulder ski deals don't care about the sport at all. They told me that twin-tips were just a fad when I worked there.

I ski switch.

MSRP might have been higher last year though. regardless, that place is evil.
