Question on my knee

Ok well i slighty tore my MCL two years ago, didnt need surgery, just physical Theropy, which i decided not to do which was a dumb move. Well two days ago i fucked up my knee agian and its the same spot, MCL. I let it go for a day, rested it kinda and gimped around on it. But when i woke up today, my whole leg is swollen, and my ankle is fucking huge, like the biggeest kankles ever. I dont have health insurance so i havent gone to the doctor, but my question is why is my leg , and ankle huge if i just fucked up my knee?

Circulation moves the swelling around sometimes, When my brother tore his MCL and ACL he had a tight brace on it in bed and his hip and foot were both huge

because your knee has suffered an extrem amount of trauma.

therefor it fills the fuck up with fluid.

i can assure you its more than just partial mcl tear this time.

good luck with the whole no health insurance

You need to get insurance before you go to the doctor man. They will make you take an MRI which is $800+ , X-Rays and many other random doctor charges that will put you well over a grand. I don't think you want to be in that much debt just for a knee check up.

Yeah please dont say that, i hope its not, its getting me all depressed now. Might have to go roll one up to make me in a better mood. but which is on the inside of your knee mcl or acl?

keep the leg elevated and it should relieve the ankle swelling.....sounds like more than a partial tear though

MCL is medial, so taht should be on your inside of the leg...theres teh ACL, which is on the front more, PCL which is the back and liek LCL? lateral which is ont he outside...soemthing liek that im jsut a freshman in college....but i am physcial therapy major

^you're right except the LCL is more commonly referred to as Fibular Collateral Ligament. MCL is the Tibial Collateral.

My advice is to ice for 30 mins at a time 4x a day. Take advil or if you have access celebrex or some other anti-inflammatory. And elevate your foot. That should help with the swelling.

ANd if you're swollen all over and its painful to walk and what not, you're definitely looking at best a sprain.. which takes a shit ton of time to heal.. and worse a MCL/ACL/Menical tear. Sucks about no insurance.. but I know doctors who take cases like yours and don't charge for the doc visit. Sample drugs. And even some visits to therapy. If you're not feeling better with the advil/ice/elevation in like 3 days. Go to the doctor.

I graduated from CSU with an anatomy minor. I was a TA for both lower and upper level anatomy and dissection. I am waiting to apply to med-school.

with that much swelling, you have def done some serious ligamentous damage my friend.

for now ice, elevate and compress. after that, uv gotta figure out what you can afford treatment wise. if u literally have no coverage (fuck i feel sorry for ppl in the states, your health system sucks balls), the best thing you can do is see a physical therapist once to get a) a proper diagnosis and b) a stabilisation and strengthening protocol you can follow.

Up to a certain point, you can use extra capsular stabilisers (muscles) to stabilise the knee in the place of ligaments.

Oh and re the above question, i graduated from the University of Sydney in 2003 with a Bach of Applied Science in Physiotherapy, and have since also attained my physiotherapy cercification in Canada where i now practice.

dude a PT can most likely tell you what is going on, but like somebody above said they are gonna have you get an MRI which is pretty serious $$$ unfortunately

RICE!

Rest don't walk around much on it

Ice

Compression wrap it up in an ace bandage or something, but don't make it too tight or you might make it worse

Elevation

Seriously it helps. Ibuprofen helps too.

Unfortunatly you probably should go to a doctor or physical therapist, just like everyone else said. Let them know you don't have insurance... some doctors are willing to help you out and try to cut some costs.

I'm not any sort of physical therapist... but I've had enough therapy in the last 4 years to know what helps swelling.

I tore my MCL thixs year. I was swollen about halfway down my leg and it was sore to touch. I'd recommend going to the doctor who would put you through to physio.

aw man you fucked dude... your never gonna be able to ski again.. you should just quit while your ahead...look into the future.. LOOK INTO THE FUTURE GOD DAMNIT

go to a doctor r-tard. the $150-200 you will pay without insurance will be worth it.

especially if your ankle is swollen from a knee injury, you can get compartment syndrome from lack of circulation, the final result of which, untreated, is losing your leg...also alot of doctors can make pretty good diagnoses without mri's, which are notoriously misleading.

i would go see a docter, cause youre gonna regret it for the rest of youre life if you cant ski and i hurts every time to stand a walk because you injured youre knee and didnt do anything about. so go seea docter.
