Question on Call Out

I live in Canada and recently bought some skis from a dude in the US from this site. I got the skis today but had to pay an extra $70 customs fee at the door. It's not gonna break the bank but I was a little choked because I thought I had paid for everything when I sent the money to this dude through paypal.
I've had bindings shipped to me from the States before with no customs fees at the door. Did this dude not pay some of the fees or is this what happens every time skis are shipped from the states to Canada?
Just want to know if there is something he didn't pay for or if this high of a fee is applied to all skis shipped across the border? Is there anything I should do, like contact paypal or sumthin?
Thanks

he probably forget to mark it as a gift. theres nothing you can do and he went through with his side of the deal so it is not callout worthy.

customs has border fees and sometimes you get unlucky. i talked to the lady tonight and she told me that they randomly take out packages and charge them GST and handling fees. the gst amount depends on what he wrote down as the value of the skis, so the more its worth the more youll have to pay.

one of my packages was randomly checked and for a $50 item i had to pay $15 customs fees. $5 for handling, and $10 for taxes.

it happens.

it also depends on if you ship ups, usps, or fedex. yes, sometimes the charge gst and border fee. its a shitty deal sometimes.

i live close to the border and i just ship it there, easier.

I live in Canada too. I also think if they mark it over $100 and not a gift you're going to get hit with taxes. Maybe not customs/handling fees but you'll be paying taxes.

It isn't the sellers responsibility or obligation to mark something as a gift, all it does is abuse the shipping system

Buying across borders can incur costs, so it's the buyers responsibility to research this before trading

I live in Australia, so I appreciate this. I definitely wouldn't expect the seller to research other costs on my behalf before i bought something.

'Caveat emptor' - unfortunately, look it up

No callout here, the seller held up their end

false. i just got a hoodie shipped from the US and it was free. picked it up yesterday. if its over $100 value, the usually charge
