Question for park crew people

So i was wondering how do you build park jumps? Whenever i try to make jumps they always fall apart but the jumps at real parks are always hard packed and stay together the whole season.

Ideally we just build everything with a cat. A multi-ton machine works wonders with keeping them packed.

Also raking regularly throughout the season and salting regularly in the spring keeps things in check in between grooming.

Park jumps are all built with a cat now. Wellthe last 5 to 15 years depending how sketch the place is you ride. I worked at a place 10 and 12 years ago that would just dump a weak bladeful of snoe if even and rest was trail or woods harvest.

The thing with snow is that it isn't all the same. Processing it by working it with the machine and some cold temps can do a lot.

When you build a jump make sure to pack it down as you go, especially near the final surface. Side stepping is a way to get it good enough to hit even if youcouldnt walk on it in boots. If you have the ability to let something set overnight the cold temps work wonders for firming stuff up.

Urban/backyard stuff water or propane torch go a long way.

Spring, salt that shit. In wet snow salt freezes it and gives you a crust layer depending on snow quality and air temp. Its pretty awesome what salt can do in the spring and summer. If your setup is too slow or need solid base salt the piss out of it.

But yeah, park jumps have a cat grooming them or at least building them almost everywhere. The weight of a cat is so much more than anything you can do bootpacking. Also the snow being process over time before by the cats. Plus the possibility of man made or mix snow.

Just pack it down. I always used to try and build out my sides and fill in my center/pack fill center pack. Bot completely but a little ahead of my center height.

I'm sure im not the only one to think of this, but why not dig a little trench after the kickers for rails to prevent kids from riding over the lip?

is it too much work, management against it, too ugly, or not structurally sound?

While a great idea I'm sure resort management would not take too kindly to old jerry Joe complaining that his kids crashed in a ditch. I've just accepted that kids will hit the lip and just wait patiently.

With that said Park rangers would ideally fix the lips once or twice a day.

I did one in 06 ish. Step down, clean cut back, then 3 foot tall snow pile out behind it. Sat in tbe woods watching people roll it and fall into it.

Mgmt is very against this. Most places have to have backs on takeoffs so you could roll them.Safety thing . Makes sense thought. Even workers have fallen off the backs or sides of big jumps and gotten injured.

Well if no one is there to come along and screw up the lips then what would they need diggers for? It's the circle of life

People riding them as theyre intented plus weather is enough to justify maintenence. It'snot as if some jerry side jumping is creating jobs.

Also there's generally always something that could be better in the park. More and quicker mid day rake laps, keeping the park to a higher standard.

nah, instead we should just kick the jerrys asses if they hit the jumps like that lol

The only time he side jumping really bothers me is when their are parallel parks if various ability levels and they go down the biggest parks to side jump.

Like sweet, we spent all that time building 3 or 4 parks for your ability level but thanks for coming through the bigger parks to fuck them up and get in the way.

yeah at my local mountain theres a small park with a good small jump but all the jerries still side hit in the other parks and it makes me want to kick their asses because they always snake me

I don't drive cat but

1. push together a lot of snow

2.drive over it one thousand times

3. push takeoff

5. drive over 500 times

6. blade takeoff and till everything

something like that
