Question for french people

hey, Im writing a paper for my french class, I have a few words that I have no idea what they are in french any help would be great.

heres the words

-twintips

-rail

- and half pipe (i read demi-lune but Im not sure.)
 
twin tips are: skis à double spatules

rails are called rails, no real french word for it

and hlaf pipe is demie-lune
 
us west frenchers call rails : des railles or just rails

twin-tips: des skis avec des deux cotes courber

but then again most quebecers would say we arent legit....

i have a question for the french. if i invade your country on saturday will you make the us save you again because i don't think i can fend off the US

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by this but you might want to read some american history books.

In the US war of independance, the French helped the US fight and later win the war. In fact, even when I went to Yorktown, Virginia; the American tour guide said that if it weren't for the french navy taking control of the bay and winning the naval battle (thus preventing the british from reinforcing thier troops or even from retreating) that the US would not have won their Independance.

Now, I reckon that you are referring to WWII, when france was taken by Nazi Germany. I would like to remind you that the U.S. did not single handedly save france. The whole allied forces conspired to make that happen.
 
that site is terrible sometimes i use it for tricky words, but quite often it gives me the wrong term. and my teachers catch me for doing faux-amis with it

but seriously, i love quebec...but paris is where its at.

the only reason i like montreal is because

a) NS Offices

b) Drinking age ( i live in the US now)

c) it reminds me of Paris

d) Mcgill.
 
Alright this is a question for all of you French guys out there...I'm going to study abroad next semester...where should I ski?? I'm going to be in Differdange Luxembourg...is there anything that isn't tooo expensive out there? thanks

Hey I'm French and what's written above is wrong.

-twintips = skis bi-spatulés ("skis à doubles spatules " is okay, but does not sound really cool.

-rail = rail (it's also a pure french word)

- and half pipe = NOT demi-lune!!! Sounds so ridiculous! Never heard this word. half pipe = half-pipe!
 
we didnt make wars. Fermez vos geules. French ppl do use a lot of english but in Quebec you try to translate everything and it sounds just ridiculous, like "magaziner", in france you say "faire du shopping", but then you say "une joke", which there is a word for, "une plaisanterie"... It's simply a kinda different dialect of french, and I have nothing against it at all though, dont get me wrong.
 
1- On dit pas "magaziner" on dit "magasiner" (dérivé de magasin)

2- On dit pas "une joke" on dit "une blague" ou comme tu dis "une plaisenterie"

Et oui, nous avons un français différent au Québec. C'est un français national, sans accent et on le parle parfaitement bien. Rien ne sonne ridicule. Bien que certains mots empruntes parfois leur origine dans la langue anglaise, au moins nous avons le mérite de faire l'effort de nous approprier les mots donc d'en faire les nôtres contrairement au laxisme et la pareisse du français européen qui ne fait que donner son accent aux mots british. So go ahead and make your "shopping"...I prefer doing my "magasinage".
 
ahah, good answer, but i do think that our french could be better, especially when you watch tv or listen to radio, it seems that the language they use on public media is more and more degraded... mais bon, je suis le premier a sacrer et parler comme un charettier, alors je veux pas chialer trop!
 
I dropped french as a high school subject because i didn't want to be illiterate in two languages
