Question about rails???

I would consider myself a good skier in the park but I am scared as hell of rails!!! Will I catch an edge on a rail??? Any tips for a beginner on rails....besides just manning up and trying?

when you first start i think its the best to keep your legs kind of spread out like shoulder width apart and make sure that your knees are bent. When i first started out a while ago i was standing too upright so when i did get off balance and catch an edge it was really hard for me to jump and bail out.

keep your weight on front foot or you will slip out and bruise your ass on the rail. for more tips like these go join the trick tip cult.

just try on smaller rails and work your way up. u may catch ur edges at first if u have never slid rails on ur skis. once the underfoot is worn down though catching edges really doesnt happen much

rail between legs

lean forward

look at end of rail

pop and turn completely sideways

and most importantly COMMIT!

make sure you turn completely perpendicular to the rail otherwise your skis are gonna try and straighten out and you will fall

Picture your weighting like this...picture jogging towards an unmoving skateboard, jumping on it, and gently gliding away...

im kinda like you, i went a few weaks trying every new rail i could and wasnt messing up at all. but then i messed up on an urban rail that wasnt set up right and have just lost my nerve.

THANKS FOR ALL THE TIPS GUYS!!!! Unfortunately my season in Michigan is over and I am new to Newschoolers so I just figured out how to find my old posts. Thanks again!

the way i learned is just by going out and doing beginners boxes, than slowly moving to more difficult things. i didnt really think about technique, i just did them
