Question About Marijuana Citation?

So this afternoon i was searched and the man found a bit of nug on me. They took me to the station, printed me, and then let me go. My court date is June 11 and im not at all familiar with this shit. Am i going to need a good lawyer to get court diversion and what exactly does "court diversion" entail?
 
no dude he rents out to people, but it was actually someone driving by on the road while we were walking down to a field.

i don't think there is much you can do because it sounds like they had reason to search you (correct me if i'm wrong) and you were trespassing so there isn't really any way to get out of it. if you are nice and respectful they probably won't be as harsh though.
 
sorry dude, that sucks ass. you will probably just get court diversion and have to do some community service and write a paper its not that bad. it happened to matt twice and the 2nd offense he had a lot lot lot more than just a gram. he had like a half o and some hash, acid and some other random shit and he still just had to write a letter to keos mom and do some community service.

 
no my brother matt did, keosian and mike were in the car though with us on the way home from smuggs and we got pulled over. that was that one night when you kept yelling about not playing dummy sticks or whatever. but yeah he had found this coffee can with like toms of drugs in it and fort it was in his car. they found that on top of the half o and he got out of jail that night with a citation and didnt really even have to do anything but go to court and maybe do some community service.
 
yeah man getting searched was the worst ever. it took like an hour and the cops were such dicks to us even though we didnt do anything wrong. just dont get caught again in the near future and you should be fine. are your parents pissed or not really?
 
dont worry about it, if your going through diversion, when you get to court they will send you home and you go through diversion, and its a way to not have anything on your perminate record, you will do some community service, and have a fine, dont worry its not that bad
 
not much at all, like i would say 5-20 hours or something probably depending on if you get fined, which i doubt because its a first offense. plus the judge will probably take it easy on you just because they look at grades and shit usually to see if you are actually a decent kid.
 
if he goes through diversion he wont even go before a judge, at least thats how it was for me, and you have to pay like $150 to go through diversion
 
Dont worry to much a gram is only a missdemeaner so youre not really screwed plus in VT you dont have the strict ass drug laws that we do in NY so your gonna get a fine prob like $100-$150 and maybe put on probation for 6 months so you just wont be able to smoke for a while worst casescenario
 
ok... so this is my 2 cents If the cop wasnt given concent to search you I'm pretty sure they cant search you under a hunch... cause if he never found anything on you He could have gotten charges by you due to the privacey act... But its hard to say due to you getting caught on a tresspassing(SP?) charge, but when its your dads boyfriends place I'd say use that to your advantage cause its not tresspassing(SP?) and I'd use that.. and then again I live in canada and last nighta buddy was caught with 4 joints on him and it was a slap on the wrist.. he gave the cop his info, and thats it. tell me the US doesnt have super high consiquences for marijuana use.. like fuck court date.. for a bit of bud... fuck.. i think here your allowed to have up to an oz. of weed before you get charged... and to be honest how many people carry an Oz. at all times only drug dealers and what not. but yah if you have any more questions I may be able to help you out.. I'm pretty familiar with the legal system

probably not, im assuming that you will get it automatically but if not tou can either just take the court appointed lawyer or you can hire one, its up to you. but a good lawyer would deffintly get you out of almost all trouble if it is really worth it to you.
 
you dont absoloutly HAVE TO hire a good lawyer... just like a couple days ahead of time and ask if i cant hire a lawer which lawyer would be appointed to me, and talk to the guy and like ok this is what happened and ask him what he knows about all the stuff he could do to get the least amount of charges against you... and if the guy has no idea of what he's talking about.. or sounds like he doesnt.. then Hire a lawyer man... but thats just what I'd do
 
this turned into a bigger deal that i thought i was going to. I'm glad they didn't find anything when they searched my car. That womanw as such a bitch
 
if it's your first offense, then you won't need a lawyer, i'm assuming they'll offer the diversion process to you. at least that's what happened to me, but i was 17 at the time.
 
just a bit of a side note, if you like to live dangerously and there's not smoke pouring out of your car, the cops don't have the right to search you or your car until you are under arrest. So if your stopped on speeding or suspected tresspass you can deny a search, it is your right but they will never tell you. Cops will say something like "do ya mind if I take a look in the vehicle, or could you empty your pockets, they phrase it in a question because they have to ASK and you can say NO. Their only option then is to call your bluff and arrest you, but that never happened to me, I have refused search to a state troopers face after being caught tresspassing and camping with alcohol and he only got pissed and SAID "Well that is your right and while it leads me to be suspiscious I am not allowed to search your vehicle if you refuse." I'm not saying this couldn't go wrong but if your arrested and turn out to only have a gram, the cop will look the fool for wasting time and courttime with an arrest where a fine would have done the job.
 
yeah man i totally agree with that shit. on another side note, the trespass was called in from someone driving by meaning that it wasnt even their fucking property and as long as my friends moms boyfriend didnt mind us on his land which he definitely wouldnt then it seems that their whole reason for being there in the first place is invalid. making the search invalid and basically negating everything. when it comes down to it, it was a completely unlucky occurrence, but im thinking i'll definitely get court diversion anyway.
 
ya thats cool I've had a fine or two for holdin but they just wrote me a ticket for about 350 and let me walk. It just feels so good to tell a cop NO.
 
well ive already got a court date for june 11. im not worried its more of just a hassle for me, especially right before college.
 
You will more than likely just get a fine and community service, especially for only a gram and in VT. Did you have a pipe or anything. That sucks that some cops are such dicks about smoking some chron. and not hurting anything
 
no offence but this sounds like your own fault you got caught. So many kids just give up there rights like that i dont understand. ill fuckin jump 10 fences and outrun 2 officers before I get caught even with the smallset amount of nug if thats what it comes to. They tried to search me at school once and i had an ounce in my bag.. full 28 grams of kush. When it gets to the point where being respectful and cooperative is not working, you have protect yourself. I slapped that bitches hand away from my bag when she tried to open it (my dean) and just busted the door back open and took off in my car before they knew what happened.

Sounds like they had zero or suspicion to search you, depending on your state laws the Po can often have a lot less power over you than u would think

at first i thought you were saying you got searched by some random guy.... but at least that was cleared up
