Question about converting files????????

I have a sony handycam dcr-dvd105 that burns to the small dvd's. So when i finalize the disc and stick it in my computer to take the video's off, i cannot take them off because they are in the wrong format. Some are IFO format, VOB format, and BUP format. These files are not recognized by windows movie maker or anyother dvd burning program on my pc. I can play the video in windows media player, but cannot burn out of it. I have a macbook laptop and i want to burn a full size dvd of the video so that i can use imovie to edit it. The small dvd's will not fit into the drive.

I want to convert those files into mpeg files or some file i can use in imovie, or windows movie maker.

Has anyone had this problem and know how to fix it?

I read online that you could simply change the file name but i dont know how.

Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks for your help.

My parents bought a DVD cam and we ended up returning it because you can't edit with it. Although google can help you... I found a program that can rip it do Mpeg but it's slow... I don't remember what it was called.

those mini dvd cams are absolute garbage if you want to edit the footage. The best way to upload it to your computer is with the USB cable and software that it came with. That should allow you to upload it in a format that'll work for you.

The camera burns the files on so it can be played in a dvd player. I believe Handbrake is a program that converts DVDs to mpeg or whatever. You can probably use that.

For some reason the one I have does not have a usb cable so the only way you can get it onto the computer is by using the disc.

I was able to find a converter that converts the file to an mpeg file, but for somereason i cannot run the mpeg file on my mac.

So is there a converter or anything that is free so that i can run the files on my mac?

Thanks

have you tryed the small indentation on the cd tray on you computer drive. You could also buy a USB cable for a couple bucks. Also to convert the files click here
