Oberson and Newschoolers are partnering for a second consecutive year to bring you the East Coast Park Ski Test. This is not your average ski test; we need experienced park skiers to provide useful insight on the skis while looking good on camera. We already have a solid roster confirmed, with a few available spots. If you know skis and you're comfortable sliding rails and grabbing your spins, you're who we're looking for. Our mission is to crown the best 2024 park skis for the East Coast. Any takers? Here's the link to register:https://forms.gle/PnJCmBjxzfr9CQW89

Lift ticket and lunch are provided.

Date: March 15th, 2023, 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

Location: Bromont, Montagne d'Expériences

Lmao. I’m old enough to remember when ski testing meant you’d get flown to aspen or somewhere and you get to keep the skis, etc. So you want people to waste their day of skiing and pay for their own travel to the middle of fucking nowhere quebec? Good to know these skis can hang at fucking Mont Royale or wherever the fuck you’re testing at. This is almost as stupid as Line skis begging for people to donate to the Traveling Circus Van. I guess when you’re in a culture where idiot kids get reposted by Vishnu and that’s enough for them to continue buying the same shitty skis for 6 years on their own dime, enticing people to make free content by calling them “ski testers” works.

Just wait until you hear about how Vishnu doesn't offer a 401k OR dental.

It's honestly gotta be one of the best deals around! You'll get unlimited free marketing (granted the kids you're sending skis to aren't exactly motivated aside from showing up to Brighton at 1PM) and all you have to do is send 20 dipshit kids in salt lake, Minnesota, and vermont one pair of skis every winter! Forget about a travel budget, athlete stipend, health insurance, anything like that, all you need are those cool changing color top sheets! I'll even write your name in duct tape on the skis when they're delivered to make you feel even more important when in all actuality the dude working in the fucking call center at backcountry gets better industry deals than this one free pair of skis!

Damn brother maybe your part of the reason why skiing died.

Back in the day I'd be stoked to get a set of skis, a free ticket and free resort food while ripping with the homies for a day. How much should they get paid? Like 2k for a day of skiing?

Sounds like you've got more of a Bruce Oldham sorta grindset which is alright I guess. Different strokes for different folks

I've heard thinking in a positive way has benefits for mental health.

I know you have some affiliation with NS and I honestly love your articles, I think you even worked with my old roommate back in the day at one point in the news section. That being said, do you REALLY think Newschoolers wants a bunch of random park riders demoing skis or do you think they're just too cheap to pay people to do it? Do you think they'd rather have you know someone like the former editor in chief of Powder Magazine demoing the skis or Newschoolers member john316534? Good to know John Smith from Newschoolers likes the 2024 Vishnu Wides!

I'd just like to see companies pay people for work. It's wack not to, and it's wack to look at it through mirrored rosy glasses "ohhh well they're getting a lift ticket and free lunch" its a fucking job that historically people have been paid to do that is now being outsourced for free and I'm the asshole for calling that out? Your labor is worth money. If they're really trying to hook people up why don't they just send me the skis for free and I'll demo them at Alta? Newschoolers is literally MAKING MONEY off this ski testing, it's not like this is some community event and you're volunteering to help out the community, they're literally making money as any business does off of this event through paid promotion by these ski companies. Oh did I mention that Newschoolers just sold for $28.5 million last fucking month?

Lmfao at the Bruce Oldham comment. That kid is actually the worse. Read my comments in here which conincidentally came moments after my rant in here if you think I'm on "the Bruce Oldham sorta grindset"https://www.newschoolers.com/forum/...utm_medium=web&utm_campaign=alerts#p-14502124

Have you ever considered that NS does not have the money to pay people? Or is able to facilitate a ski test at Jackson Hole (random example)? Your outrage is unnecessary here my dude.

NS needs help from the community to stay alive and relevant, the parent company isn't chucking out more money than they think they should, NS has been operating on the bare minimum for 10 years now.

It's very clear that you are extremely ignorant to how NS operates, NS did not sell for 28.5 million, in what world do you think thats true?

NS isn't "making money" the parent company is making money. Ad revenue is directly sent to the parent company, NS recieves yearly budgets from said parent company. If NS doesn't hit certain goals (ie selling a ski test) then said parent company cuts costs, aka shuts down NS.

You still mad?

I 100% would prefer this. Lmao.

Reviews on Powder mag etc are all just bought and paid for crap. Id much rather hear a distilled version of 20 rippers opinions on a ski being skied the way it was meant to ski where it was meant to be skied. Not some random PSIA nerds opinion on a park ski or big mountain ski after three runs on a blue run at aspen.

Only reviews I trust are blister. they are by far the best. But this is a good idea that can bring up thoughts and ideas on skis that aren't hit with the mag reviews. Plus it's a dope way for newschoolers to get more hands on in the community like they used to be.

NS if you do one in Tahoe id be more than stoked to hang out and give thoughts on skis.

Try not being so negative man.

bromont isnt middle of nowhere.

Everyone ragging on me, I'll own up that I had the bad take of the day. I honestly hope this goes smoothly and it's cool to have some unique insight from random skiers rather than the usual Freeskier bullshit that's just the same skis every year. EHeath is right, this place is for the culture and always has been and that's worth a day on hill and lunch in itself. Haven't skied in a few days should probably check myself before hopping on here. Peace.

I would never lie to you in my reviews, I promise :)

When has a ski test ever done this for people?

Long post so I guess I'll go point by point.

1.Not sure who your roommate was, might be true.

2. I think they absolutely do want park riders vs Jeff Johnson who has been skiing soul 7's for the past 6 years. It's a park-oriented website reviewing park-oriented skis. I hate going to look at a review of a pair of nearly symmetrical twin tips and the guy just goes on about how they don't turn well in giant slalom. I'd imagine companies probably love that the skis are getting used and reviewed based on what they are meant to do, by their target audience.

3. I can agree with the sentiment that you want people to get paid for work...but I just don't see how getting to ski new sticks that you didn't have to pay for, on a free lift ticket, with free food when we already all love skiing is really work. I'd get what you are saying if they were looking for people to travel all the time, cross country, and do this for 40 hours a week....but this isn't that. I've judged ski comps before. If I'm judging a 4 hour comp and get free food-great! If they expected me to do that every day for no pay then I'd probably be upset. Do you ask your friends for 20$ before you film them? What if they got a sponsorship from your filming?

4. NS doesn't make the money, the parent company does. If the community is cool with getting a hot dog, a lift ticket and some free skis to test what's the harm? Most people would pay for that experience lol. We gotta keep the lights on somehow and I think it's pretty shitty to make the assumption that any of the NS team wouldn't want to pay people more if they could.

Would you be willing to pay 10$ a month to use NS? 20$? I'd imagine we could do everything you want if we charged people 250$ for a yearly membership. So since we don't, It is absolutely a community thing because you use these forums, watch and host your edits, see reviews, have a marketplace that takes no cut, and some sick edits and events literally bankrolled by NS all for free. Being able to scrape by without charging YOU to use the website comes along with some things like paying people for a ski test in free skiing, hotdogs, and test skis. The people who are doing actual work consistently (not what is basically an 8-hour all-inclusive community event) do get paid.

5. I'm familiar with your takes on bruce. That's the meme.

I like NS. I got a lot of great things out of NS. If the parent company won't or can't shell out, I'm willing to give away some of my time here and there to help things along if I can. EVEN if I don't get paid because I've been able to use this site for 10 years at no charge.

All opinions are my own, I just get defensive of the site and team. Cool place and cool people

The unfortunate thing is that oberson doesn’t sell all the skis that people ride it’s just a mainstream park ski review

but still stoke to see the homies going big on the recap edit
