PX vs. pivot

i'm correct in assuming that look no longer make the pivot, and they picked up on PX right?

my quesiton is if the technologies in the bindings are the same, as far as releasing.

and is one better than the other?

You can still buy bindings such as the P18. The main difference is the heelpiece; the pivot series had something of a turntable where the heelpiece screwed into the ski, so that some side to side motion was allowed. In theory, this allowed a little extra time before the binding released (to avoid pre-releasing). This led to some uncontrolled side to side motion of the ski, especially towards the tail (but not much). Additionally, the close screw pattern could pull out of some weaker skis, but on skis with an adequate binding plate, it disrupted the natural flex less than most other bindings on the market.

The PX series has a longer screw footprint and loses the turntable. This means that side to side stability is better than the pivot series, and the bindings are less likely to pull out of weak skis, but it causes more interference with the natural flex of the ski.

There's a quick guide, correct me if I am wrong.

Oh yeah, and both sets of bindings are very good at releasing right at their DIN setting, not pre-releasing, or holding on too long. Finally, supposedly the PX "has more downward pressure" at the heelpiece "to enhance edge pressure" (sounds like something from the PR department, to be honest). I wouldn't say one is better than the other; if you are looking for which is better in your situation, post details (what skis, what type of riding) and I am sure people will help you out.

yeah thanks a bunch. makes tons of sense.

i have 174 06 PE's and i've broken my markers three times.(i got it as a package for free for winning a raffle). soo i was just gonna invest in some different bindings this summer. they were mounted at +5, but for remount i was thinking +7

They're both good designs, get whatever you can get cheap. The P series can develop play in the heel after a while though.

p12 jib has no lifter plate so you have better contact with the ski..more control for jibs etc..

compromises performance out of the park though

ive skied the PXs, not a fan. they also make FKS 12s, 15s, and 18s. a much stronger, lighter, and lower mount than any of the others. try and snag those. $$, but worth it.
