PVC vs. Metal

Im building a 15 ft straight rail and I already have the wood for the supports and stuff, so now I just need a grinding surface. I was thinking either a peice of flat metal or two small PVC pipes.

I dont realy like PVC because I think that it doesnt feel exactly like sliding metal(because it is less slipery and your edges can dig in..etc..)but it cost way less than metal.

Metal is more expensive, but I think it slides way better and I could re-use it next season for like a down rail or something.

I dont know wich one to pick, so help me out here.

Thanks

yeah, I dont know...

I also have to bring it to my house, so Im not sure about how to bring it, my dad only has a small A3

PVC is as fast as metal and I've never had a problem with my edges catching in it. PVC is so much cheaper that it's worth it for something you probably won't use as much as you think you're going to.

Metal...

We were hitting a PVP rail. then on the 3rd or 4rth try my friend landed on it and it snamped....it could happen to u beewear and it was a think PVP tube too

go metal, you should try to find some metal pipes, my dad works construction and they throw away like 10ft metal pipes all the time, look around

did it have good supports? and if it was ridiculously cold i've heard it can happen, but i just use my pvc for summer sessions and have never had a problem

I actually like the PVC because it doesn't fuck up your skis. My practice rail is PVC and it slides just as good at steel, but you're right, something does feel a little different about it. I at least save my skis to fuck up on the mountain... but if you have shitty old rail skis, go steel. i'm too poor for more than one pair of skis.

If you totally want to fabricate your own box rail....

either way, you're getting to practice sliding rails.

As far as the PVC snapping is concerned, well, if you don't have it braced properly, no crap, it's gonna break.

if u get metal, are you just going to glue it on ur wood support with strong caulk adhesive stuff? because i have a 12ft flatbar rail, and i was thinking of doing that

hands down metal, but its worth the extra to pay for the metal because it is alot more burly then some weak pvc's
