i was wondering if anyone had any plans for building a rainbow pvc rail.....i can build the stand but i dont know what i would do to support the pvc rail, i have never bent wood before so i have no experience.....and i wanted to make a down flat down rail and put it on my hill which is a short (30-40 feet) now its on a slope and im not sure how to build it so that the stand will lay flat on the ground and still have a nice angle for the DFD

For the D-F-D, make it as a F-D-F. The bottom will be straight and sturdier. When your ready to set it up put the shortest flat section first and that will become the first D.

listen to ^him for the dfd i built a huge fdf like that and it would be so easy to set up as a dfd real sturdy too even though the supports would be at an angle if its on a downslope. make sure you have skirting though just to help keep it all from shifting when you hit it.

for the rainbow rail or box whatever you were thinking about i think your best bet would be to get a stack of strapping (they are like 1x2s basically really flexy) and then i think i would stack them on top of eachother so that it would be easy to bend. my dad and I used this for our boat cover frame and when you stack 2 or 3 on top of eachother its just as sturdy as a 2x4 but you would be able to bend them and shape it how you want. I was thinking of building a rainbow rail or whaletale last summer, and i thoguth that this would probably be the easiestway to get a good shape but not have to invest too much time. if you wanted to build a box then i think it would be better to make a really stable fram with a lot of supports and then cut some plywood to shape it since most of the weight would be put on the 2x4s of the frame. i think it depends on how much money and time you want to spend on the project but also whether or not you want a rail vrs a box.

Heres if you want to make a box, NOT MINE, this is P-Jo

Aight I should just explain how to build it.

Supplies:

3 - Sheets of about 1/2 inch to 1 inch thick plywood, I used 8x4 foot long ones, I'd suggest at least 10x4 though

Numerous 2x4 inch wood boards to use as connectors

Sheets of Lexan or any material plastic you can find. We went to a

SIGN shop and checked their junkyard and found some Lexan sheets from

an old sign.

The coping is pretty much unecessary.

Step 1

Take 2 of the sheets, start at the 2 foot mark on the 4 foot side, then

cut a rainbow shape, try to make the peak only be a foot higher, but

you can do whatever you want. Now after you do that you should have 4

peices, the beginning of the rail and the end. If you look at my rail,

the 2nd part would fit on top of the first part.

I'd recommend cutting the lip down a bit though, it was hard to actually air off that big of lip with out a lot of speed.

Step 2

Connect the peices with 2x4s, I made my rail 2 feet wide, could be

skinier. At the top connect them so the 2x4s are flat so you can lay

more plywood on the top of the rail.

Step 3

Cut the lexan, screw it down on top, make sure you make like a divit where you put the screws in so they are not sticking out

Step 4

I think thats it
