PVC pipe rails

so last year i bought 2 pvc pipes that are i think like 3 inch diameters both 8 feet long. last year i tried to screw them onto 2 work horses but attaching the rail was really tricky and it came out to be a rickety piece of shit. my dad took it apart at the end of last year and i need some advice about what to mount the rail to and how to actually mount it. i need it to be at least 3 feet high. if you guys have pics of your backyard rails that are assembled well and stuff feel free to post pics or advice. thanks
 
ok this is what u do.....take 2 8' pvc pipes and 3 2"x6"x8' 2 by 6s....then nail the 3 2 by 6s together but raise the middle one....then take the pvc pipes and nail them into the the raised peice of wood.....like this...

......and put nails at each ends, and two nails in the middle(one on top of the other)
 
I don't know about raising the middle one, it makes it wider, but my friends and built shotgun rail a few seasons ago that's still holding up.
 
we just drilled them in from the base of a two by four and then used some scraps to place them on to a stack of 2x4's for height. our whole set up was placed on a ply wood base, I don't have any pics though
 
use a drill and drill holes through the top for the screw head to go through and holes in the bottom just for the screw to go through and then screw it in and you get a real tight fit without risking breaking the pvc cause it can easily break on impact
 
im makin a pvc rail too, but cant decide what to make it... Ive got decent plans for a flat-down-flat. but just flat-down might be better for fun shiz like 270?
 
^ word on this, definately drill a hold through the top of the pipe, then stick the screw in and hten attach the pipe via screw to the wood just through the bottom of the pvc, works super well.
 
^ yea thats what happened to me last season. it gets mad cold and breaks easier when u land on it
 
I just built an 18 foot flat down rail. i just put two 2 inch pvc rails on a 2x6. I just drilled the pvc in from the bottom, a pilot hole, then put a 2 1/2 screw in. It was way easier than i thought it was going to be. If you are worried about it cracking or breaking you have to this pvc called electrical pvc conduit schedule 80. The shit is bomb proof.
