Actually I would say it's not hyped here because MSP is traditionally more big mountain oriented. Newschoolers is by no means more "in the know" than the people at TGR, but over there people are more into big mountain. If there were more movies with adequate big mountain footage that would be different, but we only have afew to choose from. I would say the vast majority of people who ski squaw everyday are interested primarily in big mountain footage. Until more companies consistently deliver insane big mountain footage msp will continue to be one of the leaders in a limited market.
I read alot of comments on here along the lines of "how can people watch MSP when Level one is here" and so forth. I respect Level 1 and wish them luck, but I don't buy their movies because they don't focus on big mountain. Poorboyz I buy, but to me they have just enough big mountain footage. Last year my favorite movie was waiting game, followed by Tangerine Dream, the Hit List. I thought War was great too, I just would have liked more of a big mountain emphasis. The people who buy MSP know just as much about skiing as anyone here, in many cases more. They just prefer to see films where the focus is more about skiing big lines than urban rails.
MSP is most certainly not good at reaching the "general public" with their movies. The general public does not buy or watch ski, snowboard, surf, or skateboard movies. If you ask most people the only action sports filmer they would know was Warren Miller. If you live in Tahoe or Jackson it is different, but none of these movies are mainstream. And by the way, their are plenty of threads about push over on TGR. TGR and MSP are starting to be pushed by Wink productions, but they are still the only true big mountain companies out there. And I would say MSP has too much park footage.
Watching people kill Alaska and the Palisades and Jackson backcountry interests me alot more than urban rails. Because of that, I will support MSP, TGR, and companies like that.
