HAHA, dude, I'll be whitewater kayaking all winter here as well, just during the week when I'm at school rather than weekends when I'm skiing, haha, yay!
Cardrona is just out of Wanaka, South Island, probably one of our better ski fields.
There are no trees on ski fields here, none of our mountains have trees on them. There is like a bush line at a certain altitude where the trees stop. North Island mountains are all volcanic and are made of rock so nothing grows on them except little tussock grasses. South Island mountains are made from Platonic movement and so are very steep and made from a different kind of rock and clay, no trees. Some of the other rugged areas have trees up to a certain level and then snow.
