Punx vs Urban punx

heres the deal. 6'1 170lbs. 100% park but rail heavy due to lack of respectable jumps. so keep in mine MOST of the year i hit jumps under 40 ft.

this year and last i rode 181 rossi scratch fs(white burn graphic).. i never was to crazy about them because i wanted a softer ski, butters with it werent easy. right now im caught up bc ive heard people say that the urbans are TOO soft for jumps, especially at my size, and will just wash out if you dont land perfect. but im unaware at how soft the punx are.

my questions are whether the urban punx will hold there own on jumps, if not, are the punx soft? im talkin fun to mess around with, softer then scratches, soft?

p.s. sorry for thread clutter, i know theres millions of shit like this in gear talk but its a pretty personal question and i dont want to dump 500 and not even like what im riding

I'll bump this up, because i'm in the exact same situation. i rode the scratch fs wrs for 2 seasons and am now looking for something softer. i really want to know how the punx perform. i'm considering the punx or the t-halls

poplar with foam wrap.

youll be fine. urban punx are super dope and ive found held up really well for all year park shredding. get the 184.

Well, I cant tell you about the urbans, but I skied the normal punx last year and they def arent that soft. Like, maybe you can butter em if you weigh 170 but its not a fun buttery ski like that. I know the urbans are softer but I dont know how much. Theres no way they are THAT MUCH softer than the normal ones, so my guess is theyd be just about what your lookin for. If you are worried about them being too soft, well, I skied EP pros quite a bit last year, and jumped them plenty on hard snow. Just land on your feet, not on your tips or tails, and you wont have to worry too much about washing out.

I could butter regular punx and i weigh 135 it wasn't an invader butter but i was able to throw butter's and knollies pretty easily.

For your size and weight punx would be really flexy and fun, but wouldn't be noodles at all. I loved my punxs and am pissed i destroyed them accidently.

couldnt tell you. everything ive read and heard from shops is a sandwich wood/kineticore, and im not quite sure what kineticore means hah. and thanks for the imput mike_d

Basically, kinetic core is a wood core, but in the tip and tail, the wood is replaced with a super light material to lighten the tip/tail for easier spinning.

why would i want a ski that is 96 underfoot, and all mtn. if i ski 100% park?

and i have a deep heartfelt hatred for line hah

I rode urban punx all season and they're my favorite ski ever. I hit jumps ranging from 20 to 45 feet and they held up perfect. They are quite soft which makes them so much fun for butters, etc but they can hold up on jumps because of their edge reinforcement which makes them stiffer, sturdier and more solid underfoot. If you are doing mostly rails and butters (like me) and are only hitting jumps in the 40 foot range, go for the urban punx 100%.

ps I'm 6 foot and I rode the 184s, I recommend this size for you too.
