ok so lately I have been hearing all about fucking pretty boy Pete Wentz from Fag Out Boy and how he is "so punk". this is really pissing me off cuz I heard sum Duchest people talking about how Pete is more punk than Sid Vicious from the sex pistols. this is effing pissing me off. so what do u guys think about this?

you can't really be "more punk" than someone else

it's not like there are like punk rules

there are a ton of local punk bands up where I am, and GG Allin was buried here

so punk is a big thing

but i listen to pop punk bands because i like the music

i like a ton of music though

hands down all the real punk was so much better.... its mostly all i listen to. there was the era of the ramones and sex pistols and the calsh, which is all good stuff, but i'm a little partial to bands like NOFX, face to face, bad religion, screeching weasels... those were the true punk badnds, cuz they didn't give a fuck about anything

hahaha please cite some of these quotes, because none of what you just claimed is true.

pete is actually a really down to earth dude, and although at times he can be narcissistic, he doesn't make bullshit claims like that.

also, since when has fall out boy ever claimed to be "punk"?

it isn't any secret they far more pop than they are punk.

do u know pete? and y does there myspace say they are punk.and if u know that masscara wearing bitch u prolly have gay sex with him

actually i've met him a couple times, and he (along with the rest of the band) were really chill, down to earth dudes.

and yes, their myspace also says they are pop. where do you think the term pop-punk comes from. it's a fusion of two genre's.

you've yet to cite me some quotes where pete claims to be punk.

coming from a background of punk, i don't understand why people are so harsh on this new wave of bands. i grew up listening and playing to bands like crass, minor threat, and black flag. yet i can still honestly say that fall out boy is one of my top 3 bands of all time. why is there such animosity towards (IMO) the best genre that music has seen since the pure rock and roll days of the late 60's and early 70's

1. I said I heard everyone talking about how he is, i never said he did 2. I meet him also back in 2005 he was a total duche bag. 3. are u by chance gay? D. Ian Mackaye and Henry ralllins would kill those duches.

looks like we lost another one to the emos... its sad to see someone go from liking black flag and minor threat to listening to shitty music like fall out boy, oh well.

1. well then why blame the band?

2. i find that really hard to believe

3.i'm glad music defines who i am as a person now.

and no, i'm not.

4.don't you mean henry ROLLINS? right, now be quiet.

if falloutboy starts claiming punk without the word pop in front of it im gonna shoot myself in the face because the world will be over.

fucking bullshit

im not really into punk all that much but its still got its greats and fall out boy is no were near even being claimed as rock. wow this really pissed me off.

if someone says youre punk, youre punk.

when a whole bunch of someones tells you youre punk, youre problee not.

sid was just a jerk with adhd, add's hyperactive cousin.

i said i was gunna back off this thread, but since drew is a duche bag i wont. how do u know how old i am? and the point of punk music was to stick it to the man, do what ever the fuck u wanted to do, and to be different

Wow, have you been reading teen magazines, you really got the inside scoop bro. Yay for Pete!.....FUCKWAD.

STFU duechebag. Music is an expression of ideals, lifestyle, emotion and culture. Everyone can choose who they wanna be and listen to what they want to and blah blah blah...emo is a fucking cultural wasteland for adolescent fucktards and Fall Out My Ass Boy is their pied piper.

Regardless of whether they claim it themselves or not, that doesn't change the fact that others are claiming pop/emo as punk.

For anyone that appreciates real punk music, including this kid, it's annoying as hell. Corporate America has taken a real scene with culture and history, diluted and castrated it, and polished it for today's "sensitive" youth.

While the emo drones are feeling sorry for themselves and shopping at Hot Topic, the world is going to shit. Our government is full of liars, the world is at war and the voice of the underground that once shouted FUCK YOU at the man is being called the same voice that "has such good fashion sense."

I don't care if you like that shit, but don't call it PUNK.

These guys have a PUNK message worth listening to.

yeah, i hear what you're saying

i do listen to pop punk and electronica, but it's deff not punk

check out:

Orange Juice

The Jonee Earthquake Band

The Rot-Aways

just to name a few

This kid is right. Punk has a real history of political and social rebellion, and it is blaspheme to say pop/punk is an evolution or fusion or continuation of that culture, fuck that.

The US could use a real punk scene shouting at our government and leaders because it's absolute corporate corruption, but instead emo pussies are feeling sorry for themselves.

for the last time:

who cares what you call the genre, it's only a name for a style of music that has roots in other similar styles of music.

and besides, i've yet to see one person in here saying "OmGz/ FoB is th3 most Punkz thing i h4ve eva s33n!"

so who are you arguing with?

yes, anti-flag is VERY political. and that's great, i like them alot and they seem like nice guys whenever i've seen them. but, to say that a band is shallow because they write about unrequited love, the "scene", or anything non-political is (for lack of a better word) ignorant.

I'm arguing with you. If punk is not a genre, it is a culture forged by rebellion. If you claim a "background" in punk, you should know that. Even more important, you should stand up for it.

If you're butthurt because I took a dump on your fav band, let it go, like them if you want to, but they are not punk in any way/shape or form. It's not a fusion pop and punk, it's just emo pop shit.

I'm done talking to you, kids who get it will agree with me, and you either don't get it or you're in denial because of your preference for candyass music.

it's too bad music is defined more by its sound than its content.

so by calling them pop-punk, it's just saying that they utilize some characteristics of punk music (e.g. fast drum beats, power chords, ect.)

this is the singlehanded worst argument i've ever had with anyone because it is so trivial. someone has sand in their vag because they are offended of how people define a band...

Shut up kid.

Your the one getting sand in your vag trying to defend your fav band. Face it, pop/punk is being called and sold as something it's not, and real punk is 10000x better.

what are you talking about

genres are what make music what it is.

you cant just have some bands like the unseen or something in the same catagory as fall out boy....

genres are what give music its organization

Fall Out boy is the shittiest band ever created i can't even believe ppl give them the credit to be considered pop punk that is a fucking joke.

Pop music is just whatever is popular at that time such as n'stink or those other shithole boy bands were popular back in the late 90's...that FAD has ended and it has entered this stage of the avril lavinge's and fall out queers which are both pop music because that is the fad thats in right now

punk bands such as anti-flag and pennywise are timeless punk bands that people will listen to like 20-30 yrs down the road and will never die out and there will always be people listening to them

if u ask about fall out boy in 10 yrs no one is guna know them because there will be some other shitty ass pop act little kids will be riding the nuts off

Punk exists/existed against the mainstream, Pop/Punk is mainstream. There's a contradiction here, how can something be defined as against the norm, and all of a sudden become the norm it's meant to be against?
