the only type of 'real' punk out there is street punk. the unseen, a global threat, virus 9, the list goes on but these are the guys who are pissed off at just about everything and want you to know. they will kick your fucking ass and you know it. people like Mark Unseen of boston are the only reason that punk still survives.

is punk dead? no, but it's only hanging on by a thread

^y you say punks dead, it's still there you just need to look alot harder to find it.

that's my two cents

School=no money=no skiing=insanity

yeah, punk isnt dead, but it's on it's death bed. someone needs to either shock it back to life or else it will be dead and gone

the only reason why you people think its dead is because you dont like it, if you did like it, youd know where to find it. and if you found it, youd know its alive and well

Tip-2-Tip We Rule

the only good punk is ramones, sex pistols, the clash, misfits, and possibly dead kennedys. everyone else sucks cuz they all sing like girls and sound the same and there stupid shit! im sorry but NOFX and rancid FUCKING SUCK ASS!

FUNK IT UP!

benji youve heard like 8 punks band in your entire life and then you say everything else is crap. Don't say anything is crap until you've heard it.

as i see it punk is not just the music, it is a way of looking at life. NOw that there are all of these people, who arn't real punks, but are pretending...or think they are,, we can chnage the world maybe....slow materialism, and i donno.......other stuff

HÉLmµT- HiGh SNow!

who are you really to say others are pretending? i'm sure there's people out there that would see you as 'pretending.' that argument won't get you far.

-chris

tip-2-tip, apparently you dont realize that punk is almost dead. i love punk, and i honestly can say that it is dying. no matter how hard you look, punk is slowly being killed by MTV. i know that was a cliche that is used much too often, but it's true. the dead kennedys were right, MTV get off the air. MTV gave 'pop-punk' it's opportunity to break out and break out it did. the MTV punk cares more about if his studbelt is hanging just the right way, than the situation in Iraq. the real punks out there dont really give a fuck about how their stud belt is hanging, if they are even wearing one. they care much more about whether bush gets elected, how the Iraq situation will be resolved, and how the hell we are going to try to stop using fossil fuels.

punk is deff dying slowly. There are too many poser kids, in my school theres a huge group of them and they are multiplying pretty soon there some will give up punk and go a different way.

i liked punk before it was fashionable. punk has been dead since you could buy it in macy's. now all it is is a fashion statement. i like the music. i like going to shows. i dont like it when kids think you're a 'poser' because you're at a T.S.O.L. show wearing jeans, some reeboks and sweatshirt that says Michigan State on it. i also think its fucking hilarious how 'punk' clothes like plaid pants cost like 90 bucks. oi! oi! up the fashion punx! oi! oi! up the cell phone punx! hahahaha piss off you bloody wankers

Punk that is getting attention from the publuc is like a sugar coated icing, only the icing is glazed with syanide. What the general public thinks as a punk band (Good Charlotte Blink 182 etc...) isn't really punk, true punk is like an underground genre.

you cant say that punk is dead if people are still making punk music. and you cant say punk is dying because right now its in its natural state. punk wasnt meant top charts, its solely underground music. which is part of why im such a punk fan. theres just something about liking bands that people have never heard of before that just make me like them even more.

listen to steve he's got a good point(s)

thanks for the input, i've been thinkin about that fashion thing, there is this girl and my brother says she's punk, anbd she dresses all really punk and sutff, and listens to some of it.,...but she doens't really now what it means yet, bt tnow the meaning is getting lost. I mean she might be on her path to learnign what it means...but she might also be one of the....materialistic peoepl who catch onto new trends.

If you guys what a decent way of looking at it, read 'The White Negro' by Norman Mailer. It was written, I think, in the 1950-60s concerning the hipster vs. square. I'll admit that I like bands like Taking Back Sunday, Brand New and other such labeled 'emo-emocore' bands. I acknowledge that it's been commodified and I am not looking at it as an excuse to rebel against anything. Thats what mailer was talking bout in 'The White Negro.' The chapter bout Music in Allan Bloom's 'Closing of the American Mind' is also good too...

quick question how old are all you kids arguing about punk?? because age has a lot to do with it. When you mature you realize certain things. a good movie to a certain degree concerning this is SLC punk.

also there are TWO definitions of punk. 1 punk as a lifestyle. 2 Punk as a genre of music. people who live the punk lifestyle may or may not listen to punk music and people who listen to punk music may or may not live the lifestyle. all you people arguing over punk really dont understand what the punk lifestyle means, it is those who dont understand punk that 'kill' it

SLC punk is an awesome movie.

i think there is a third catagory of punk though: punk as a state of mind

i think like a punk most of the time, and i love punk music but i dont dress 'punk' i actually dress most prep than i do punk, but im still more punk than most every kid i know that wears bondage pants and says that '...For the punk rock scence, he'd give his fucking life'

^it's not punk.

to adress the comment about the misfits: they suck now. everything they have put out since Danzig left has sucked. the danzig era though, now that was some good shit. and as for the casualties, i dont know. the music is ok, but they definately border on fashon punks

damn reggae concept, you got it all figgered, huh? you are so much punker, punk state of mind. eat my nuts. no way for older than like 17. live on your own for a few years and tell me you have a 'punk' state of mind.

'He got fired? What did he do?'

'He jumped off of the roof again'

Punk doesn't have to be synonymous with liberalism. I'm a moderate conservative, and I grew up on Bad Religion, Pennywise, Minor Threat, Circle Jerks, and Misfits. Just because punk has branched off into different states doesn't mean it's dead. Try telling that to kids who are still driving hours into bordering states to go see shows of indie bands or whoever. You don't have to protest war to be punk. Social or political commentary can be of any nature or on any side and still be punk music. I'm 20 now, so I guess I've been listening to this shit for like 9 or 10 years now. I don't care what you wear at a show. I've never been caught dead in bondage pants, spiked bracelets, or leather jackets. People wear clothes that are conducive to their lifestyle, and that is staying true to theirselves. That would seem to follow punk ideology if you ask me. I wear my 'skater' clothes (shoes, cargos, and probably a band or company t-shirt) to shows, like I wear them everywhere else. Kids in the scene may be pissed about bands being displayed on MTV, but they aren't abandoning the music because of it. Those kids that are drawn to that kind of music probably wouldn't have gotten into 'real' punk anyway. Who cares what MTV shows as punk, who cares that 'real' punk is misunderstood because of it. Isn't being misunderstood a niche punk has carried since its inception?
