Public notice: avoid turbo tax

Those sleazy dogs are straight cappin'!

Ain't nothing free about thier free filing. They show you get a tax break then require you to pay them 40 dollars to receive it. Not only that they wont file in my state without paying them another 40. Smh. Then on top of all of this they squeeze you clean of another 40 for paying for the first 80. I tried for about 30 minutes to use h and r block but got stuck in the same circle about 5 times over. But I wish I would have kept trying because turbo tax blows absolute chunks. This rant is intended for people residing in the United Staes of America only.

Yeah I own a business and use their business edition and used the home version for 10 years before. No issues. And those of you not paying taxes, get a damn job you lazy freeloaders

The companies that make and sell the tax software actively lobby against simplification of the US tax system.

Lobbying undermines the democratic process and is a gross perversion of the first amendment right to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

You just said you've been using the home version, meaning not the new FREE version the OP is talking about. They've been advertising the free one for a bit now so it makes sense to complain when it's not actually free.

think it might depend on what state you're in for the price on the state return but I know I just filed for state and federal for free and did the same last year, just gotta keep you don't select one of the non-free versions they keep offering you between sections. Everybody saying they don't file taxes might be missing out on a whole lot of free money unless people on here make way more money than I thought.

It's not free money, it's your money. You just gave it away for 11 months because you withhold too much.

FreeTaxUSA if you have a straight forward file. I use HR Block as mine is a little more complicated but I always advise FTUSA.

Copy that. Yeah mine is very straight forward. Used turbo tax for free the last couple of years.

Agreed but if you don't file you're not getting it back and filing is pretty simple.

The system is pretty rigged for sure, the government knows exactly how much we owe/they owe us, but they don't want to pay for the jobs.

This last year was the first time I made real money and filing is going to be more complicated than it has in the past.

I have an HSA, am paying interest on student loans, am investing etc... and I'm wondering if it's worth my time to use one of the paid softwares or if I should hire someone.

I've had a CPA for awhile, it's expensive but takes all of the stress and hassle of out complex tax stuff, would recommend if you can afford it.

How expensive?

I imagine it varies state to state, but at least $200, I haven't heard of anyone paying less than that for legit CPA, you can probably pay someone at H&R or turbotax like $100, I've had the same one for a long time and its certainly peace of mind.

Wow 40 bucks big fucking deal. Make more money how about. Go to a real accountant to do ur taxes and find out how much they charge an hour

You clearly did not read my original post

Is it weird that my refund went way down under Trump and way up under Biden? A lot of people straight up vote their pocket books I honestly don’t even know what that even means anymore

I'm sure it depends on state law.

I have used some free programs before, and they are limited in functionality. You have to pay for any additional action or choose an expensive subscription, even if you don't need all the features included. Now I use a handy payrollindex.com program, and I'm not looking for other options because this one is good.

Otherwise, if you don't need any extra features, you can use all the functionality without restrictions. As an accountant, I really like using all the features I need.

Bots be botting

Ufile for Canada is pretty good, even if its 25$ to fill out a claim.

Its strange that I get audited 6 times in the last 2 years. I got audited last month! Some stranger reason, they get the identical number everytime.
