PSA: You Can Die Hitting Urban

Reminds me of the way that actress died a few years back. Head injuries are so scary, definitely not something to screw around with.

RIP

sip mayne, it's such a HUGE tragedy when someone dies at an age like that

i've been posting this on other snow forums

I remember asking myself ''should I bring my helmet .. ? or no ..?'' before hitting urbans.

I'll definitly wear it, this is tragic + vibes to family and friends.

Some stickers have already been made up, and ones available for purchase (all money will be going to Will's family) will be available before Dec.17th.

wow this is so terrible. I'm sorry to hear about your friend.

we should all slap a sticker on our helmets for will.. RIP

I just skimmed through this and didn't read word for word every entry, but I wanted to make a quick comment. First, it is a horrible tragedy. To know someone who was fine one day and going out to have some fun hitting an urban, then dead the next... I just can't imagine. I had a good friend die in a super freak accident with a train right after high school and it really shook everyone up. Rightfully so. So my prayers his family.

However, my comment is mostly that I find it equally sad that anyone who says something with reason other than "SIP/RIP" has been called an "inconsiderate prick" or something along those lines. If you people do nothing with death except lament it and make stickers to remember the person, then the same thing will happen every time and it will only bring a lasting sadness and shallow comments. Instead, why would you not try to learn everything you can from the cost of his life. Those who recommended making some type of awareness sticker about concussions or head injuries had a good idea. Of course he should not have been drinking. How is this not a fore-gone conclusion? Even if just two or three beers, it changes the way you perceive things and how your body reacts to them? You can break your leg while drunk and not feel it. The entire point of me saying this is not to bring shame to the guy who died. But, if what happened to him can serve as a warning and a preventative measure for others, why on earth wouldn't you be shouting it from the roof tops? I hope everyone reads this thread and considers a) always wearing a helmet and b) not drinking or smoking while hitting anything that is a danger to your life. I think it would be a real shame for 1000 rest-in-peace comments and no lesson to be learned. I guarantee you he would rather have others lives saved from his tragic death than just some comments from hundreds of people who didn't know him well.

Lastly to all his friends who have posted - you are right to celebrate and commemorate his life. You should all get together and ski and talk about all the ways he impacted your life. I am really sorry for your loss.

I think you are right ,

but it would be kind of ternishing his memory to me by saying something like he was stupid for drinking , of course it is not the brightest idea , but no need to bash on it like yoski !

anyways its really sad to see stuff like that , RIP and prayers to family and friends

Very concrete points, but like you said, you didn't read the whole thread. The people who are making these stickers have created them with the initiative to raise awareness around protective equipment and how important it is. Their concept behind it is to make stickers that say "I WILL" meaning "I will wear a helmet" They've created a facebook page around the message: ( http://www.facebook.com/pages/I-WILL/329408310408714?ref=ts )

And I don't think anyone here is denying the fact that poor decision's were made. The people who are getting called out on being an "inconsiderate prick" are people who voiced their opinion in a very disrespectful manor, don't you agree? I want to thank you though for responding in a positive way while still expressing your opinion!

I'm from the town where this happened, and I am very shaken. I've hit the same rail that this happened on under the same circumstance - drinking a few beers with my friends, and not wearing a helmet. It's a terrifying reality in regards to what we all do, and I know that the number one thing that everyone wants to come from this tragedy is awareness.

so sad to hear man.

Vibes to your crew and his family, hang in there.

Protect your lid kids and ski responsibly.

RIP Will.

i wasn't calling out every person who didn't say RIP/SIP. i was calling out the few people who bluntly stated the obvious. Some of the comments were totally inconsiderate and disrespectful.

Will's death has already brought huge changes regarding the use of helmets within the Edmonton ski/snowboard community, and im sure it has done the same in Nelson. It is not just the use of a helmet, but knowing the precautions when you have suffered a head injury. You should never take a concussion lightly. Get yourself checked out.

mobile was fucking up bigtime the other day, but yea holy fuck, so sad. I think i gave him some poutine once while he proceeded to laugh at my jiberish but yea he seemed like a super nice guy, super sad.

rip
